How quickly would the Puerto Rican statehood take place? They have a population of 3.7 million, about the same as Oklahoma, which I believe has 5 congressmen. I’m assuming (incorrectly?) that the number of Congressmen would stay at 435 and that 5 congressmen would be dropped from other states? Am I way off base on the process?

Puerto Rico is more conservative as a voting block than American-proper Hispanic voters

One of the other obstacles to statehood raised was the costs of adding another state when there’s already a massive federal deficit. But the opposing view was: increased revenue from income and other taxes.

I just think it’s one of the most interesting matters to emerge from the election, and it seems to be flying totally under the radar.

Which is factually 100% wrong.

Luis Fortuño, Puerto Rico’s governor, who was voted in in a landslide, is a Republican.
