I will now share my Buddy Rich story:

Had several musician friends in San Fran. One worked off and on with Rich, who was apparently quite the asshole to his musician employees.

This guy had been talking with Rich about getting together for a tour, and one days he calls Rich’s house and asks for him. Rich’s wife pauses, then says along the lines of, “Buddy died a few hours ago.”

The guy offers condolences, hangs up, waits a few minutes, then calls back again. Rich’s widow says, “I just told you, Buddy died a few hours ago.” And the guy says, “I know, I just wanted the pleasure of hearing it again.”

Guy swears it really happened. Knowing him, I believe it.

I just didn’t realize the small numbers that some of these studies are based on. As a mathematician it just seems unsound to take much stock in them.

I know it seems low but it’s fairly common for psych experiments. The two most famous psych studies ever done (the Milgram Experiment and the Stanford Prison Experiment) used forty and twenty-four subjects respectively.
