Today is the day. Obama goes down. Recovery awaits.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:13 AM
that is incredible
November 6th, 2012 at 8:17 AM
It’s actually Kluwe, not Klewe. There’s never been a more vocally pro-gay athlete. Ever. I wonder what his motivation is. He must have some gay family members or friends???
November 6th, 2012 at 8:17 AM
have you looked at the Nate Silver numbers?
He’ll either turn out to look like he knows what he’s talking about … or not. Last i checked, he had Obama 87% chance to win.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
Nice feature on Memphis point guard Joe Jackson.
He’s really steppin out. He’s a maniac, a maniac. All jumpin jive aside, when he went to Memphis, I asked “”Is Memphis Really Going Out with Him?”
November 6th, 2012 at 8:19 AM
Today is the day. Obama goes down. Recovery awaits.
O for 3.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:20 AM
91% as of last night.
/voting after work today
November 6th, 2012 at 8:20 AM
91.6% now.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:20 AM
have you looked at the Nate Silver numbers?
Nate is depending on state polls that are still using 2008 models. Gallup, Pew and Rasmussen all show huge swings to Republicans in party id since 2008. Obama will be pulled down in the undertow. Ohio early vote numbers already show this but liberal media is ignoring.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
Never heard of this Nate Silver until last week. I take it that he is the Joe Lunardi of politics?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
Was this a brake/accelerator mistake? The driver lose the walker in the sun?
seemed like the car got hit from behind
November 6th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
I’m gonna roll a dice a bunch of times Jason… My models predict a 1-5. If it comes up a 6 though, that doesn’t really mean I don’t know what I’m talking about.
That’s as simple as I can make probability for you, I can’t help you beyond that.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:22 AM
He like-y the peen?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:22 AM
Jason, haven’t you heard? Nate Silver is a partisan hack. With a wee voice. And he’s gay.
/ImJustSayin’d
November 6th, 2012 at 8:23 AM
He is incredibly smart and a well spoken athlete that no one will remember two years from now if he keeps shanking punts.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:24 AM
An absolutely false statement. If you are going to spew your anti-Nate Silver stuff, at least make statements that have a semblance of truth.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Am I late for all of the civilized, rational political discussion? I certainly don’t want to miss that. Has TarBaby made an appearance yet?

Now what is it my name is suposed to be if Obama wins? And Jay V what is your name changing to tomorrow after Romney has won?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
It will be a surprise for people if romney is elected because things arent really going to get better. I lean somewhat conservative on things but he’s a garbage candidate. One of the worst pair of candidates ever.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
I don’t think there is a “Silver is right” or “Silver is wrong”. All he’s doing is being a calculator. It’s a nice, succinct summary of the probabilities at play in this election cycle, but he’s doing very little himself, from what I can tell… which I mean as a compliment and as a good thing, but just like an ‘upset’ in sports doesn’t mean Vegas was wrong in setting the line, I don’t think Romney winning tells us anything negative about Silver.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
I wish I knew if Obama sucked as President or if he just had four years of fighting Republicans who were more determined to make him look bad than to fix the economy + everything else.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
An absolutely false statement. If you are going to spew your anti-Nate Silver stuff, at least make statements that have a semblance of truth.
What is false about this? Dem party id in state polls are averaging equal or greater to Dem party id in 2008. That is a fact. If that actual turnout occurs then Obama wins. It’s just not what the major pollsters expect. And Pew and Gallup are not bastions of conservatism.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
You never agreed to the bet, are you agreeing to it now? The terms were:

Hell’s Snowball.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
To me, people who get worked up over nate silver’s predictions are similar to the meatheads who tweet nasty things to sports media people when their predictions are wrong. OMG YOU’RE A DUMBASS HATER
November 6th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
I love ImJustSayin

I wish I knew if Obama sucked as President or if he just had four years of fighting Republicans who were more determined to make him look bad than to fix the economy + everything else.
My God man. Dems controlled House and Senate Obama’s first two years. They could have done anything they wanted to. Senate was a super majority. It’s this statement that most of all makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
Oversampling the South leads to the results looking the way they do on the national level. State polls are what matters, and Obama is winning in the states he needs to get to 270. He’ll win OH, WI, NH, NV, CO, VA, IA.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
I am to get 2nd degree burns jacking it to gifs of people crying at the Romney concession speech for no gain because I will be way too celebratory hammered. Also it will be awkward because I will be in a movie theatre.
No one has explained how austerity and increasing military funding is a recovery? Anyone?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
I have never heard of this Nate Silver guy until today’s Roundup and I read the Roundup every day. Has this been discussed in the Roundup before?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
You never agreed to the bet, are you agreeing to it now? The terms were:
“ImJustSayinIWasWrong”

Done. Go with Stupidity though.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
Just seems that republicans want obama gone and dont care about having a good candidate. They just dont want the democratic guy in office. Perhaps they should have focused on getting a good candidate
November 6th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
Seriously? He’s been discussed in the roundup practically every day for the last 2-3 weeks.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Questioning Nate Silver is the quickest way to be attacked on this site. That guy is more beloved than the Pope.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Sounds like the democrats 4 years ago.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
saw “Flight” this weekend, it’s not that good. Denzel is good, the crash sequence is terrifying, but they forgot to craft a good story after the plane crashes.

Yes, this is the shred of hope Libs are hanging on. Not going to work but that is the theory. I’m telling you tonight is going to be rough in MSNBC land. As I have said before their tears will be delicious.

November 6th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
I hope by the end of this week we go back to talking about boobs, beer, and BBQ in the roundup. The way it used to be before a couple of insufferable douches came here and ruined it. You know who you are.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
Its moreso that people are getting worked up over what a guy is PREDICTING.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
Obama has such a significant advantage in Ohio polling that even a +2 push to R right now, and he still wins. The aggregators have all taken it off the “competitive” list.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
Can’t we just get a moment of silence for T-Dog?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Conservatives can only argue about Nate Silver, no where else is there a difference in opinion with a leg to stand on (spending, government shrinking, military, being dicks to whistle blowers, corporate profits, hunting Muslims with robots, most domestic oil produced, etc).
Cool, Obama appreciates your vote.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
at this point we’re either fucked or severely fucked with the economic policies and congressional inaction at this point. best to let it ride tonight.
i do think the networks are going to wait until the last possible moment to call any battleground state b/c they want drama more than anything else and won’t call it under any circumstances. assholes.

Thank you Jimmy Graham. Won my game by two points.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
What do those partisan hacks have to do with anything?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
Romney is a shitty person and candidate, but were he to win I wouldn’t really worry domestically. Thanks to Obama, the economy is growing either way. Forgein policy is what terrifies me. The guy knows nothing.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
hey, at least the least used character and most annoying character both died in one episode. and they both had really good deaths. glad they deviated from the comics for Lori’s.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
/Seconded
November 6th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Obama has such a significant advantage in Ohio polling that even a +2 push to R right now, and he still wins. The aggregators have all taken it off the “competitive” list.
You realize that Obama won Ohio by 250,000 votes in 2008 right? His lead in early voting from 2008 was cut by very near 250,000. Voters in Ohio polled as election day voters trend Romney. It will be very close, but I think Romney wins by 2%.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Seriously. I was way more upset about him than MOTY.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Yeah because Republicans haven’t run an anti-Obama campaign for the last three years, because they realize they can’t find a suitable candidate that will appeal to the extremists in the party. Surrreeeeee.
That said… is there any thought that because Romney is such a (moderate) flip-flopping douchebag (fact not opinion), that the far right won’t be instilled to vote, and the turnout will be bad for Republicans in general? Or will the hatred of Obama drive them to the polls?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
Romney is a shitty person and candidate, but were he to win I wouldn’t really worry domestically. Thanks to Obama, the economy is growing either way. Forgein policy is what terrifies me. The guy knows nothing.

November 6th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
It would help if most of the current senators and congressmen/women were voted out of office and we got a bunch of rational people in there who actually care about helping the country instead of their pocketbooks and their lobbyists. Whoever is president doesnt matter when you have idiots in congress
November 6th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
And what were the polls before the election? Or do you not have an ability to produce relevant/consistent facts, only cherry-picked ones.
/knows the answer already
November 6th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
Yeah, AMC may have gotten some backlash for that.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
Romney has 40 preceint offices is Ohio. Obama has 173. Think that will help turnout?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
First part I actually think there is some truth to. I don’t think Romney will be as terrible a President as he is a candidate/person. I don’t fully believe in the economic recovery yet though, mostly because I don’t think the reasons for the problems have been fixed. Throwing money at it and accumulating debt, no matter what the relative interest rate (which if you say it’s effectively zero, you are rooting for inflation so fuck you), doesn’t seem to be a solid financial strategy.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
In the south, the hatred for the black, allegedly muslim candidate will drive many christians to go to the polls and vote for the white mormon guy who actually goes against most christian beliefs. Many of the prominent christians who influence the south have ignored the mormnism part because they hate obama so much. Yah, compromise your beliefs because you’re a bigot!
November 6th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Can’t we just get a moment of silence for T-Dog?
BUT! They did (what appears to be) the politically correct thing and replaced him with another black guy.
/That’s politically correct, right?

November 6th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
You know what’s more important than the Presidential election? Question 7 in Maryland, a vote to bring a big ass MGM casino to the National Harbor!
November 6th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Romney has 40 preceint offices is Ohio. Obama has 173. Think that will help turnout?
It hasn’t really helped with early voting. But I guess we’ll see. Work calls. President Romney sounds really good.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Obama has such a significant advantage in Ohio polling that even a +2 push to R right now, and he still wins.
Here in the battleground I think it’s going to be pretty close. I would say the Obama team on the ground was much stronger than what I’ve seen from the Romney team. Romney team more robo-calls. I hear way more adverstising for Joshn Mandel than Romney. In the end up here I think there’s a lot of hard feelings for Mitt about his auto bailout comments. I still think it is less less than 1 total % point either direction. I’d say Obama 50.4% but all the SE Ohio voters could push things the other way.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
I think Romney would have a better chance with a better VP running mate. paul ryan is stupid. He says Obama is a threat to western judeo-christian values yet he praises the writing of ayn rand…uh,..you dumbass, rand is quite the opposite of judeo-christian values

November 6th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
I really wish elections weren’t decided due to things like this.
How so?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
i’m glad they did it that way, to be honest since it was unexpected. If they kept it the same as the source material i’d always be waiting for her and the baby to be gunned down when the governor comes knocking.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
They’ve released the results? Or are you talking about voters who are Democrats?
November 6th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Yup, gotta buy those votes.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
correct, romney’s austerity measures and increased military spending will cripple the economy and undo any of the work that’s been done to fix our economy since we almost went into a depression
November 6th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Wife said there was a crazy line and our names weren’t on the list so her provisional probably wont count anyway. Yeah democracy.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
I think he bailed becasue that “neutral” stance was anything but. Another sports site has been running stuff by him for a year or two now.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Yes and no. On the one hand, its a shame that strength of organization matters. On the other, those organizations get as many people as possible to vote, which is exactly what elections should be about.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
you’re a fucking idiot.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Sounds about right.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Can someone explain to me how Romney can be up 14 pts with independents in every poll yet the same polls call the race a dead heat? Every pres election I’ve seen says you win independents by 5 pts you win the election
November 6th, 2012 at 8:53 AM

let’s talk about a real issue: USA Today is laying off a bunch of people in the Nashville area in t-minus two weeks. my wife’s aunt is one of them. good work, Jason McIntyre.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
I just can’t fucking understand this. On Facebook, I get political ads because some friends “like” Mitt Romney. How the fuck do you like Mitt Romney… you vote for him because you are a Republican, or hate Obama… but no one could actually “like” Mitt Romney, what he is, or who he is and what he stands for (you know, if he stood for anything).
At least with Obama, I know enough about him to disagree with him on major issues, but I think he’s at least a genuine and honest person with good intentions (or did in the last election).
November 6th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
It’s complicated. He’s not up 14 points with independents. Romney does have a lead in independents, but its mostly in states where he either has a commanding lead or Obama is a lock to win.
This election is all about states. And Obama is winning the battlegrounds.
November 6th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Miz, its the truth for many white conservative churches especially in the south (fundamentalist churches, especially) and for many tea party people. Hell, i see that kind of opinion here in small towns in upstate NY

November 6th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Completely anecdotal, but I don’t know anyone voting for Romney who likes the candidate or can tell you one thing about his policies. And I know a LOT of people voting for Romney.

November 6th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Newsflash – Not everyone is like you or holds the same values as you. Some things that you like, other people don’t like. Some things other people like, you don’t like. Hope that helps.

AP is the guy who hasn’t been on a plane in like 8 years right?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
So what do you “like” about Romney. Tell me why he’s a decent, responsible human being. What about him makes him a good leader, or a smart politician.
Like I said, I can see him being an okay President, but I can find less likeable about him than I could George W Bush (for real).

But, they did win by nine eventually. Once the dunk-fest started, things got better.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
your use of “many” implies a large group. any of these bigots you reference are a very small vocal minority. unfortunately, you’re foolish enough to not understand this.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
anyone know how to turn off the “LOOK AT MY I JUST VOTED” posts on facebook? I only need it for today, so a temporary setting would be fine.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Likeability is far down on my list of characteristics that make a good president.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
AP…. You realize that there are a lot of minorities… Specifically African Anericans… In the South, right. And that not every white person is a klan member? You’re “I know a guy he lives there” logic is not sound.

The one good thing Mitt did was downplay his mormonism. If he played it up and more people knew what he actually believed, hed probably lose in a landslide

Kristen Bell is pregnant
Worst possible news of the day.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
you should apologize for whipping out your broadbursh and painting “many” people incorrectly because you’re ignorant. don’t apologize for my reading comprehension and deductive reasoning skills. I’m perfectly happy with their ability to help me weed out the morons that can’t have an intelligent, informed conversation.

November 6th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Is it because she is pregnant or that dax shepherd is the father?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Sorry if I’ve missed this being brought up, but anyone catch the 30 for 30 on Ole Miss? Thought it was pretty well done. I like Wright Thompson’s work. Sat my 14 and 12 and tried to get them to grasp what things were like in this country just 50 years ago.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Ok, i take back “many” and use the word “some”. It is more accurate.

See the YouTube of him being inteviewed a few years ago? The guy brought all this up, including the Mormon belief that Missouri is in fact Jerusalem 2. Was interesting to say the least.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I want to vote, but i really dont like either of these guys and am sincerely disgusted with the entire process. so i dont know what i am going to do.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
This is actually untrue. He decided to stop writing his blog on with the Press because they wrote a column in the editorial section about the subject and they portrayed it as being neutral when it was clearly advocating one side of the argument. Chris said he didn’t mind the paper taking the opposite stance as him, he was bothered that they tried to pass an opinion off as neutral.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Who cares what religious views he holds? Clinton was morally bankrupt and it bothered no one. Most dems think he was our greatest president. You know, because he created the whole tech boom and stuff.

who does Gary Johnson hurt more, Obama or Romney?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I’m somewhat lazy, like making appearances at luncheons, can throw out a few first pitches, and would have no problem making an occasional gaffe to draw attention away from the President.
In short, I’d me the mirror image of every VP in the last 50+ years.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
People get a weird sense of pleasure out of saying things like “I’m so disgusted by our political system”.

I’m not sure if Mass will be quite as hilariously liberal as Mich is with handing out the cards (back pain, nausea), but one can hope.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
when in doubt, pound the under.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
The economy is not coming back, because neither Obama or Romney will do what needs to be done: Imprison the bankers who committed epic fraud and crashed the world’s economy.
Why would anyone put their hard-earned money into an obviously rigged game?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
who does Gary Johnson hurt more, Obama or Romney?
I think Romney. But what I like about him is that he doesn’t care who he hurts. His goal is to get 5% of the vote to raise awareness about 3rd parties. The two party system is fucked. Both parties are to blame for the mess that is the government of this country. To think only one party got us into this mess is the epitome of ignorance…

My roommate got his for Migraines. This old timer was handing them out without even doing physical examinations. He ended up losing his medical license, but he was getting $150 per card. I’m guessing it was his retirement plan.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Gay marriage is a tough issue to be neutral on. The “I’m neutral” stance is basically saying “I don’t think you should have those rights”. It’s a tough position to defend, and one I have yet to see done successfully.

This is always the argument for a casino in a dumpy city. Ashtray emptier, security guard, and cashier are not what I consider “good jobs.”

craft beer pub by my house is offering anything on tap (i think they have 30+ beers) for $1 and if you have a winning record picking the 10 swing states, anything on tap costs a quarter until closing time. That sounds awesome, there are some things in your oft criticized country that are truly perfect.
Prop 6 is it in Michigan? Canada wants to build a new bridge because of border wait times hurting imports and exports. Canada will pay for $550 million tab in exchange for first crack at the tolls. Sounds good? The douchebag who owns the other bridge (admiral bridge?) has spent $30 million trying to demonize the project. The fuck is that shit? Keep in mind the Canadian dollar is stronger and Canadian consumers are travelling to America to take advantage of cheaper prices.
Recap:
Bridge is free
Will increase trade and retail
Douche-bag is against it
My understanding, does anyone in Michigan know the full story?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Touche, but regardless of what is done with the money, what are the disadvantages to building something that creates GOOD paying jobs in a region that could use them?
November 6th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
The surrounding area has some of the most disposable income in the nation. Stats show Marylanders spending $550 million at surrounding state (DE, WV, NJ, PA) casinos annually.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
what are the disadvantages to building something that creates GOOD paying jobs in a region that could use them
Is this sarcasm? Have you been to a casino outside if Vegas? The amount of degenerates spending their welfare/social security checks on the slots is depressing.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
does anyone in Michigan know the full story
As an MI resident, I share your understanding. However, it seems all the ads (at least on TV) are against the bridge. Quite a bit of misinformation. I wish more people realized the driving force behind the ads is a guy who stands to lose a lot of money if there is a second bridge. I’m all for capitalism, but that motherfucker wants a monopoly. I hope the citizens of MI are more informed than I give them credit for…
November 6th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Agreed. Poor Navajos.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:43 AM

My understanding of your comment is the “NO” voters on Prop 6 will win.
/I hope so
November 6th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
They don’t have to. The degenerates are going to gamble regardless. There are four out of state casinos within driving distance, (3 hours) from where I grew up in MD. That $550 million isn’t only from those “De-gens.”
November 6th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
I live 30 minutes from a big ass outlet mall and one of the top tourist towns in Michigan. It’s not uncommon to see 10 – 15% of the cars in the parking lots sporting Ontario plates.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
So do I. I’m doing all I can to educate everyone around me about the truth that the bipartisan system is all controlled by a single source.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
I hope he does raise the awareness, and i think he’d get a lot more of the vote from solid red/blue states if the dem/gop candidates weren’t considered so extreme by the opposing party.
1. I’m going to vote for Gary Johnson today. Missouri is going Romney, so I’ll cast my lot with Johnson and hope he gets the five percent nationally.
2. Wish Johnson would’ve kept off the “let’s bring back the gold standard, yeehaw!!” mumbo jumbo. That’s the thing that had been keeping me away.
3. He should’ve targeted Obama supporters in the south and Romney supporters in the west and northeast. He could’ve picked up a couple points by saying, “listen, your guy isn’t winning here, vote for me and we can get a third party to the debates in 2016 and you’ll all have another option then.”
November 6th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Correct. I had read (i think in the Freep) that 2 – 6 we’re all leaning to the NO side.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Gary Johnson getting 1% is about an even money bet at my sports book, so I’m guessing that his total will end up in that neighborhood.
November 6th, 2012 at 9:52 AM
Obama 290 exactly, but i wouldn’t be surprised if he walks away with 319+ if FL and VA tip his way.
i’m rooting for obama to steal FL only so i can turn off coverage and watch something else.

November 6th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
perfect storm would be an election cycle when the stakes aren’t as high for either side of the two party system and if both parties moved a bit more to the center. more people will be more comfortable voting 3rd party.
and if we get our economy on track in the next 4 years and gary johnson gets 5% this year, we aren’t on the verge of any war and things are looking up, that’s a fighting chance.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:01 AM
YEAH MOTHERFUCKERS
November 6th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
Then run. I hate this type of comment. RUN. Make your brilliance known. the same people who could be a better coach/manager/GM/QB think they could be a better politician. Most of them are the 7th best plumber in their town, but that doesn’t matter. If they could have only had a couple breaks. They can also throw a ball over those mountains.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
The 3rd party candidate has not always counted as a “throw away.” In 1912, Teddy prevented Taft’s slim reelection chances with the “Bull Moose Progressives” garnering 27% of the popular vote. Taft got 23% as the Republican candidate, receiving only 8 electorates compared to 88 for Teddy. Wilson cruised to an easy victory with 435 electorates..
November 6th, 2012 at 10:03 AM
If we assume all of those states are TRULY coin flips (50%), then that gives Romney.
11.7% chance in the first scenario and 9.4% chance in the second scenario.
Not really all that far off from Silver’s projections.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
that’s going to be a very long night for everyone if he does get those states, no network will call it until 99.9% of precincts are in.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
Do a little reading up on GDP growth.
That comment is embarrassing.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
he’d have no chance in today’s media, though.
the equivalent would be if a one term president comes back 4-8 years later running as a 1 term president to get things done if things go really sideways.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:08 AM

100 year anniversary, this year! I love reading over old party platforms from previous elections. Here is the “Bull Moose Progressive” one:
November 6th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Thanks to the 2008 election, actually.
Can someone explain to me why an electoral college tie would give the presidency to Romney? I keep seeing it’d be Romney/Biden but not why.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
I got to vote for myself today. Heading down to San Diego election headquarters to watch the results come in. I should get elected so that’s nice.
As for what could you possibly “like” about Mitt…
He seems like a good man to me. Obviously loves his wife and kids. He went to work and built (expanded) a fortune to support his family. I respect that. He actually did a bang up job as an executive of a state… A overwhelmingly democratic one at that. His record of reaching across the aisle to govern that state gives me hope that he could do well in charge of our country. I like that he plans to run our country with a little more business focus.
I don’t like that he had to pander to the far right to win the nomination. F the tea partiers and the social cavemen.
If Obama wins, the sun will still come up tomorrow. But his 4 years of work did not earn my vote. He didn’t even stick to his guns on half the issues he told his base to hope for in 08. Everyone who knocks Romney for just wanting to be pres, just because, conveniently ignores that Obama ran well before he was qualified for the job. Should stood down for Hillary, waited his turn. He couldn’t pass up all that power & fame.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:18 AM

Constitution. I wouldn’t worry about that happening.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
are they actually voting to legalize it and tax it or decriminalize it?
November 6th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
legalize.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
As a token Christian on this site from the South (is Texas the South? Not really, but close enough) I’d like to respond. You revised you statement from “many” to “some”, so fair enough. While I hope I don’t know any of those “Christians”, it would be naive to think they aren’t out there. There has been quite a bit of debate among Christians that I’ve been around on Romney v. Obama. Obama being a Christian, and Romney being Mormon is usually the center of the debate. I know many Christians voting for Obama, based on his being a Christian and the feeling that he is more closely modeling James 1:27, which talks about the importance of taking care of the needy (specifically orphans and widows).
Frankly, I’m not really excited about any of the candidates. I don’t line up very well on fiscal issues with either Romney or Obama. And I’m split on some of the social issues (being anti-abortion and pro gay marriage). Either way, Obama is going to win. So, my personal dilemma is irrelevant anyway.
Cheers!
November 6th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Thanks sparty
November 6th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
so obama gets points deducted for trying to negotiate with the other side and not sticking to his partisan guns, but Romney gets points for saying he’ll be bipartisan with a congress that won’t let him be bipartisan?

Don’t tell me Obama worked hard at negotiating with other side. That might be one of his biggest weaknesses.

November 6th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
He tried for a while — foolishly, IMO, from a party whose sole goal was to make him a one-term president — before throwing in the towel. I would have done the same thing.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
You know her old man?
November 6th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
American Christians are generally right wing voters but that could be skewed by age (older people more religious, old people more conservative). Interesting that the British (limeys) Christians vote for the left due to social issues and assistance for the poor.
Also interesting is that in 1968 the Evangelical position was pro-choice.
Even Christian Life magazine endorsed contraception and stated that “God does not regard the fetus as a soul.” Again I do not have much of a grudge against anyone’s personal conception of reality or relationship to any deity, it is the political action and misery fallout of those propped up “closer to zeus” organizations that I despise.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Anyone bringing their kid to the voting booth? My mom did that when I was young and it was a thrill for me.
I was in charge of my boy during the primary election. Took him with me. They gave him a bunch of “I voted” stickers. Of course, I live in a rural area and I was there for all of two minutes. However, I went this morning and it took me 45 minutes. He’d have been bored out of his mind.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
How can you be a Christian and pro-gay marriage? Doesn’t the bible say that homosexuality is a no-no?
November 6th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
The bible also says if a woman wears two different kinds of thread she should be stoned to death.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:38 AM

And I don’t watch Fox News. I have a bunch of liberal inlaws from Oregon that were hugely disappointed in Obama’s lack of follow through on campaign promises/hope. They will still vote for him.l
It is pretty weak sauce to just try and pigeon hole anyone who doesn’t wholly agree with you as “the Fox News crowd”.

So is premarital sex. But you dont see that as a major issue and being illegal. Plus, hate the sin, not the sinner is what I was always taught. And everybody’s a sinner. IMO, those standing against gay marriage do not have God on their side.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
I have a bunch of liberal inlaws from Oregon that were hugely disappointed in Obama’s lack of follow through on campaign promises/hope.
I too, have a black friend.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Conversely, after seeing 2 of my ultrasounds, let’s just say abortion really really makes me sad. Especially after a certain week. And I grew up staunchly pro choice.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Agree with this completely.
I was rather disappointed that there were no Black Panthers at my polling place.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
yes, it says that. but the homosexuals are already having the homosexual sex regardless of whether they’re allowed to get married or not. allowing them to have a legal, nationally recognized certificate of marriage that allows them the opportunity to share insurance and get tax breaks doesn’t really validate their homosecksual secks. in my opinion, gay marriage is an sociological issue more than a religious issue.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
But hey can you believe this radical Mormon stuff!
November 6th, 2012 at 10:44 AM

November 6th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Is it possible to be pro-choice AND anti-abortion? Thats something ive being trying to decide for a while. I think its very possible but wonder what other opinions are
November 6th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
CJ – have you gotten a 3D ultrasound? our insurance wouldn’t cover one since it’s basically considered a novelty, so we ponied up the $100 a got one. it was awesome.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Nah miz, we were going to do that if we couldnt tell the sex at the 18 week ultrasounds, but luckily we could. If insurance covered it I would be all over it. I was amazed at what she looked like at 18 weeks. She even sucked her thumb for us.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Quite a few churcheswelcome gays
November 6th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
I don’t like abortions and want them to be used as infrequently as possible. I also believe it’s up to each person to make the choice for themselves.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
HA! I knew the bible bit would bring out the Old Testament pickers and choosers. If you believe in the bible, you believe it all or nothing. Jesus corrects things in the Old Testament that people focused on incorrectly and are not the real issue. However he does confirm the stance that homosexuality is a no-no.
I’m frankly just amazed at the number of “Christians” who profess to live their lives according to what Christ called them to do (it’s written in the bible for all to see), and turn right around and go the other way.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
I think there’s a huge gray area. I dont want to pigeon hole myself as one or the other, but I do feel there needs to be more restrictions put on the act.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
In my mind there is a difference in what the Bible says, and what the government should legislate.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
How can you be a Christian and pro-gay marriage? Doesn’t the bible say that homosexuality is a no-no?
I’m Methodist and we recognize same sex marriage and don’t believe the world is 6000 years old. You shouldn’t let the Jerry Fallwell’s view of the world color your picture of Christianity for you.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
our daughter did a finger-mustache pose during the 3D ultrasound.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Some people should get forced abortions when they get pregnant. Better off for everybody!
November 6th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Yes, it’s called being pro contraception.

Tea-party ran wild with restrictions.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
And they should. Jesus never condemned anyone for their sins, but they weren’t condoned either.

Best plane-crash movies remain Flight of the Phoenix (original) and Fearless.
Oh, and the SyFy one about the U.S. high school football team crashing in the Himalayas and being attacked by the Yeti, can’t remember the name.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
best plane-crash movie is Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade
using a plane crash scene as loosely as possible
November 6th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Jerry falwell is dead.
Joel Osteen, however,…that guy is a joke. He’s A cheesy motivational speaker pretending to be a pastor. The guy disregards so much of the teaching of the Bible. When he was interviewed by CNN, he said he didnt preach about sin and the negative thngs in the Bible because he only wants to focus on positive things. Cop out…and that huge arena is packed every sunday…
November 6th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
I struggle with the independent minds and morals of church/temple/mosque attendees and the sweeping damaging acts of the institutions, on one hand it seems like tacit approval of a corrupt and evil organizations, on the other seems to bring people together and give them peace of mind. Mostly I think it’s balls.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
If the person you worship and are allegedly modeling your life after, tells you something is wrong, and you believe it is wrong, how can you vote to make it ok?
It doesn’t really matter. People can justify anything in their minds. Hypocrisy is the Great American Pastime.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:57 AM

November 6th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Think of it like giving money to the church. It’s important and I do it. But, I’m not for the government legislating everyone to do it.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
I pictured that as your huge breasted wife driving you and your friends around hammered.
November 6th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
My dad was talking about the nature of man and homosexuality in church a couple weeks ago. He talked about how churches have failed miserably in treating people that were different from them. He basically said that no matter if you believe it’s by nature or by choice, you still don’t have the right (and you’re violating biblical principles) to shun a person or treat them badly because of their sexual orientation. Sadly, thats not the opinion or viewpoint that is the loudest heard
November 6th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
dude, good luck. it’s a scary and amazing experience.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:02 AM

hilarious. I still do it, and I know it doesn’t increase battery life, but like I tell everyone when they mention that, at least I know where my batteries are when I need them.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
I pictured that as your huge breasted wife driving you and your friends around hammered.
Yep, she drove me and my buddy and his wife back from Athens last week. We didn’t tailgate as long as we normally would but it was still a pretty long day. I don’t think she’d make it if she was farther along.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
just saw this but that would be me…I personally would not want my wife (or at the time GF) to have an abortion but I still support others rights to choose for themselves
November 6th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
No I am not.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
I know and see religion’s value for some people. I’m just way too logical in my line of thinking for religion. I’m a gotta see it to believe type of guy.

November 6th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Jerry falwell is dead.
\
He’s been dead for years and is probably rotting in hell. Or burning. Whatever belief you have.
And you shouldn’t need to join an organized religion to be told what to believe.
Wasn’t told at all. I chose to worship with like minded people. Methodist for me. If I was anti-gay and thought dinosaur bones were a test from God, I’d have gone to the fundamentalists Baptist church down the road. I understand you hate religion. But that is your issue. Not mine.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
… but fuck you if you’re on a soap box trying to legislate crap on religious grounds when you probably have 2 whores on the side for your extended stays in DC.
November 6th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
What a fucking dumpster fire. Return to your bridges, trolls!
November 6th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
Thanks for trying to make an analogy, but i think I can handle it like you said it originally. 99% of Christians take the stance of anti-abortion as they believe it is murder. Do you believe that?
You may recall “Do not commit murder” is one of those pesky commandments. Murder and tithing are just wee bit different, and not subject to your own interpretation.

Always refreshing to hear that a band sounds good live. Sometimes I’m severely disappointed.

This. From many accounts, Harding was a likeable good ‘ol boy type, but a horrible president. Washington was distant and prickly but a good president.
And I hear Lincoln was one motorboatin’ sumbitch.

Not surprisingly, the song featured in the Apple commercials is the one I really don’t like.

That was on tv a couple months ago and I caught that part again. Intense. Maybe this has been said, but the guy who did the Cast Away plane crash does the Flight plane crash.

“I’m just way too logical in my line of thinking for religion:”
This is, ultimately, an expression of ego. I won’t go into my own personal religious beliefs (they are not strong), but I did find Mere Christianity to be instructional on some of the fallacy of your way of thinking.

I watched ‘Safety not Guaranteed’ last night. That was an enjoyable flick. I think all these glowing reviews of Flight just show how many journalists have drinking problems.

Hinder was the worst band i have ever seen live. for some reason they were headlining the 3 or 4 band show a bunch of my buddies and i attended. the guy with the keys wanted to see Hinder so had to sit through that shit.
surprisingly good live band. Limp Bizkit, 2003 summer sanitarium tour.

they were influenced by “Gimmie Shelter” in the trailers.
“Flight” started out great and had amazing potential, but Zemeciks didn’t do anything great with the material, just kept it bland and had Denzel do all the work.
the last 20 or so minutes was poorly done, very uneven and extremely sappy/predictable at the end.

The worst live show I’ve ever seen was Zeppelin in 1977. Severe disappointment, but I think Page was stoned out of his gourd on heroin or something.
Second worst: the Stones in 1978 at the Super Dome. I blame that on the fact it was a quinessential bar band playing a stadium. Would have loved to see the Stones in an arena under 1,000 seats.
