The White Sox Traded Away Kenny Williams’ Son, Kenny Williams Jr.
Late last week, the Chicago White Sox moved Kenny Williams from his general manager post to a cushy new position as executive vice president, a classic move designated to prevent the foolish fellow from making any more poor decisions while at the same time disguising it as a promotion.
In his place came Rick Hahn, who has been the GM in waiting for several years. So what was one of Hahn’s very first moves? Trading Kenny’s son, Kenny Jr., to the Rockies for Mark Tracy, a 25-year-old first baseman who hit .264 in Class A Modesto. Ouch. Was this Hahn’s blunt, make-no-mistake-about-it way of flaunting that he does in fact have full autonomy on personnel decisions? Sure as hell feels like it. Why else would he trade away three Gobstoppers for four Spree less than a week after becoming the team’s new general manager?
White Sox fans should already feel a sense of relief and hope that an era of capable management has indeed begun.

If the Spree are chewy then that trade was a clear win for the White Sox. Otherwise it’s pretty close to a wash.

At least Kenny Williams is bold. Stupid, but bold.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Gobstopper.
But then again, I’m not tubby like Tim Ryan.

Nah, that could lead to me killing myself. I like the back and forth’s with the resident smug prick blowhards. Interesting studies.

Would it include info about New York Road Runners donating a minimum or $1,000,000 (but actually $26.20 /runner, which could be more than a million) to the fund they just created, the “2012 ING New York City Marathon Race to Recover Fund”, the fact that they’re promoting every runner to match it for themselves, the Rudin family donation of $1.1 million, the ING donation of $500,000, and more sponsor donations to come? Or is just going to be more horseshit from the roundup, like “fuck marathoners”?

i have no idea. btw, do you run?
i just sense that it is a hot topic today.

I do. Sorry, just read the roundup at lunch and jumped at using your comment as a chance to not be completely O/T.

Fuck marathoners.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:38 PM
How is any of these donations dependant on someone running 26.2 miles?

I do. Sorry, just read the roundup at lunch and jumped at using your comment as a chance to not be completely O/T.
no need for apology, i was just poking. but i did text the info to a local radio host who has opened gthe show guns blazing at marathon organizers
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:42 PM
What about half marathoners? They’re much more lazy than full marathoners.

Agreed marathoners are as reprehensible as Donald Trump when it comes to charity.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
I think “how are” is correct, but I have no room to correct anyones grammer.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
there are outraged folks who want the runners to immediately after the race start to run to volunteer and say ‘how can i help?’
i tend to think it is silly to have the race if for nothing else than the resources diverted from finding floating bodies, restoring power, lending generators and the number of volunteers doing the race instead of something recovery-related
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
It’s not. But this marathon is not the satanic ritual it’s being made out to be. There are people that care that are trying to use the event for good.

November 2nd, 2012 at 2:49 PM
I don’t disagree with you. I just find the backlash a little extensive. I also don’t know how it’s a guarantee that every person volunteering for the marathon would also volunteer for something much more difficult like hurricane clean-up.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:49 PM

November 2nd, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Does anyone know if that “text to donate” crap is legit? I’m afriad I’ll donate $10, and after fees and charges, $1 will go to the relief effort.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
I’ve ran a few halfs, but I would never put that sticker on anything I own. Even though a half is still a huge accomplishment, no one should brag about doing half of something, especially men.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:52 PM

the generator situation is probably the worst part
three for the media tent? one as a backup sitting idle?
on top of it, no reg fee back?
if i’m wrong about that, sorry

November 2nd, 2012 at 2:53 PM
To change stations slightly… God I fucking hate “casual” marathoners/half marathoners for perpetuating shit like this. Why did running become a social event? Running/racing, if you’re doing it right, fucking SUCKS. The only good part is post race, and even then it only feels good if you did well.
November 2nd, 2012 at 2:57 PM
To be fair I see a lot more of the 26.2 ones than the 13.1 ones, though I have seen several off brand pink 13.1 stickers and I bet that pisses you off.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:00 PM
here’s the thing…do we want weak, skinny, emaciated distance runners helping with hurrican cleanup? FUCK NO. that’s mans’s work.

Kenny isn’t good, but to be fair to him, his farm system sucks because Reinsdorf always refused to go over slot. So, they couldn’t sign any quality amateurs.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:02 PM
What kind of times do you run, Chicago?
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:03 PM
I run about 4 miles 6 days a week. Not to train for a marathon, but so I don’t get fat and try to look as good as I can. (No homo)

November 2nd, 2012 at 3:05 PM
what if i told you that you’re completely wasting your time and that 30 minutes of weight training at a high tempo with minimal rest will not only give you the same results, but actually improve on them?
would you be interested?

November 2nd, 2012 at 3:08 PM
To be fair, a combination marathon/satanic ritual would be an awesome event, almost as awesome as Punkin Chunkin.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:10 PM
what if i told you that you’re completely wasting your time and that 30 minutes of weight training at a high tempo with minimal rest
I’d say you’d normally be right, for someone who didn’t play sports or is trying to beef up. I’m not lifting weights so to not bulk up. I sound incredibly douchy saying that, I realize. 2 to 3 days a little body weight exercises. All about toning right now
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
Ha. Hadn’t seen your comment. This is a historic moment.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
same here, and although I am pretty proud of myself for doing it, I don’t go around telling every fucker I know that I did it. I do enjoy taking pictures of the 13.1/26.2 stickers on peoples rides and randomly selecting people in my phone to send them to.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:13 PM
what if i told you that bulking up has more to do with diet than pure exercise and that lifting weights following a high rep/high intensity routine tones and shapes without building bulky muscle?
seriously…if youre just trying to look good, a high rep/high intensity weight routine will cut your workout time in half. it’s impossible to build muscle without a caloric surplus but lifting weights gives you a 24 hour metabolic boost rather than only getting a boost while actually running.
do squats, push ups, pullups, and a bunch of other compound exercises and save yourself the time brother. just lookin out for you.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
I’ve only been doing about 10-15 miles a week the last 4 weeks after I got up to about 35 again, so probably about 19 min 5k, 40 min 10k, that sort of thing. A half would be a mess, and marathon a disaster. I would run either a half or a marathon without seriously training and being sure I could run about 6:30 pace the whole way. When I was in college I ran 49.x, 1:53.9, 4:20, 15:30 5k, and something like 35 for 10k. I enjoyed the half mile the most, and probably should have been better at the mile.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:15 PM
i dont begrudge distance runners…in fact, kinda jealous. i dont have good cardio endurance and wish i could do 6 minute miles all day erryday.

November 2nd, 2012 at 3:18 PM
You’re right about this stuff- For me though, I prefer to do the miles and combine it with the squats, pushups, and a bunch of other body weight stuff. I just like the way I feel when I’m in great “running shape”.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:18 PM
seriously…if youre just trying to look good, a high rep/high intensity weight routine will cut your workout time in half
Preciate ya. I know all of this. Running is high intense, mix up sprints within those miles. Do pull ups, push ups, bands, etc. Diet is pretty solid. Under 2000/day I’ve lost 20 lbs since August. It’s those nights out with friends that get me
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:19 PM

November 2nd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
oh yea…when i was losing a bunch of weight, i cut out drinking entirely.
/weed = no calories
good call on the sprints. when i was playing lacrosse, my legs got pretty huge from sprinting. it’s funny tho, my legs have gotten pretty big the past two years from golfing a lot…granted, if we’re talking about time saving, practicing 3-5 hours per day aint exactly efficient.
but hey, a lean 190 and a 7 handicap. i’ll take it.
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
All respect lost
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Most of weight I’ve lost has been legs actually. Upper body still holding muscle I built up from college workouts. It’s a struggle trying not to drink knowing I’m paying for it and canceling hard work out.
Let this also be a good time to bring up the best way to prevent over eating: dip

I ran a full last year (middle-aged bucket list thing) but won’t put the sticker in my car – that would prompt people to ask what my time was and the humiliation of telling them it took nearly five hours to haul my old, fat ass over the course is simply too much.

Spencer going all 30 for 30 in here
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Impressive. I’m guessing you gained a coupla’ pounds since then?
November 2nd, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Thanks. ‘ve been out about 2.5 years now… and I’ve actually gained only about 4 lbs. above my racing weight of 146. That said, I’ve gotten way softer- I wouldn’t call myself doughy, but I’ve certainly lost some muscle definition. I’ve had a couple half-hearted comebacks where I’ve strung together a couple months of 30 mile weeks, but I would really love to get back up to 50-60 miles per week. I’m thinking about starting again right now actually. It’s just so much harder without the backing of a bunch of teammates.
