Ballin’: Watch James Harden Torch the Pistons for 37 Points & Jamal Crawford Break Rudy Gay’s Ankles
Houston 105, Detroit 96: James Harden had one helluva debut for the Rockets: 37 points, 12 assists and most importantly, a victory on the road. There are 81 games left, but on this night, Harden looked like a candidate to lead the league in scoring and be a No. 1 option on an NBA team. Carlos Delfino added 15 points (all on 3-pointers) for the Rockets, who were down 11 headed into the 4th and then owned the Pistons (33-15). Let’s not forget stat-sheet stuffer Jeremy Lin: 12 points, eight assists, four steals, four rebounds.
Philadelphia 84, Denver 75: Spencer Hawes had a 2nd half block party, and the 76ers turned back the mighty Nuggets to the delight of Reggie Miller. It should be noted that Gallinari didn’t play. Hawes (16 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks) was a factor in the middle with Andrew Bynum not playing. Andre Iduodala had a quiet night (11 points) in his return to Philly.
New Orleans 95, San Antonio 99: Anthony Davis had a terrific debut (21 points), but Al-Farouq Aminu stole the show with 17 points, including these two nasty dunks. “Gimmie a break!” yelled the announcer. Twenty-year old Austin Rivers had a rough season opener: 1-for-9 shooting, three turnovers, three fouls.
Golden State 87, Phoenix 85: The Warriors tried their best to lose to the Suns – David Lee and Stephen Curry were a combined 4-for-30 shooting – but the bench propelled them to victory. Newbie Carl Landry scored 17 points and Brandon Rush tallied 14. Phoenix drafted point guard Kendall Marshall in the lottery, and he registered a DNP.
LA Clippers 101, Memphis 92: Just like the playoffs last year, the Clippers owned the 4th quarter (28-15) and beat the Grizzlies. Blake Griffin dunked. DeAndre Jordan dunked. But the surprise was Jamal Crawford, who erupted for 29 points off the bench. He gave Rudy Gay the “ankles!” treatment.

one game does not make a trend, but as a rockets fan, last night was pretty awesome.
I dont know if harden will make a good lead guy, I am actually skeptical he can, but last night was a pretty good start in convincing me he can be that guy. wow.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:02 AM
The Pistons lottery pick played fewer minutes than the guy they drafted #14 in the second round.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Harden is the shit. I am happy for Rocket fans. Fuck you Bob Sarver.

Tayshaun Prince is a corpse, Greg Monroe is soft, Stuckey blows and Maxiel is garbage.

no love for D Ho? and where the heck is the link to the Florida Halloween stabbing TBL?
November 1st, 2012 at 10:07 AM
He isn’t ready. Dragic and Telfair are fine for PG’s right now. SG’s wanted though.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:07 AM
TBL, if it’s been more than 4 hours since your boner for the Rockets has been up, seek medical attention.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Austin Daye was a great pick by Joe D. He played a lot last night. Singler and English can shoot the lights out.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:10 AM
I am assuming we are saving a whole post for the Lakers.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:11 AM
I’m not. Congrats Houston, you’ve got your man.

i am just pleased my rocket’s boner still works. its been dormat for quite a while.
the only thing that got it’s attention where thoughts of the greatest basketball player ever, hakeem olajuwon.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Good contribution from Singler though.

obligatory.

Houston’s going to have their pick of a PF in the offseason – Jefferson, Millsap, Josh Smith, Pau. If they can round out a decent bench, they should be right there for the next few years.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Magic tip off tomorrow, let the Jacque mother fucking Vaughn era begin!
November 1st, 2012 at 10:19 AM
MPIII, you’re my brother in arms with your love of track, the Rockets, and Dream. Get on board with soccer and we are 2 sides of the same coin. I bet Harden ends up averaging 25, 6 and 6. That’s impressive. Morey!

Good to see Jimmer get some quality burn last night for the Kings.
/Oh, Wait
//Nevermind
Also, Eric Bledsoe is going to be a problem this year. Great stat line for only 17 minutes played.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Kendal Marshall fucking sucks. I can’t believe anyone thought he’d be a good NBA player. Then again I wouldn’t expect anything less from the franchise that gave away at least one guaranteed title
November 1st, 2012 at 10:22 AM
I would hope they could find a pretty good one from the eight young ones on their roster. I do imagine their off-season will be to find a better wing than Chandler Parsons or a star PF though. A lot of undeveloped talent on that team though and if they follow Harden’s lead(with his 110% play all the time), they might be really damn good in a few years.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Did they say why Harden played 44 minutes last night?
November 1st, 2012 at 10:24 AM
David Stern gave away that title. But yea Kendall Marshall has never played a minute in the NBA. Probably best to bury him now.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:24 AM
I actually think he can be decent but I would have never taken him in the lottery. He strikes me as a career bench guy who can run the bench crew effeciently and maybe become a decent spot-up shooter with some work. So basically a better version of Steve Blake at best.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:24 AM
They’re all pretty undersized and not what I would call starting NBA frontcourt material.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Get on board with soccer and we are 2 sides of the same coin.
i have tried, but its tough. i have some british buddies that are fun to watch with, but i think my sports plate is full for now.
are you from houston?
November 1st, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I would assume it’s because he’s basically the only SG on the roster.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:25 AM
thks Fixer
November 1st, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Millsap would be the best value out of that group. Pau will be near dirt. Smith will want Joe Johnson money and Jefferson is already in dirt.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:26 AM
agreed that Stern told Phoenix not to pay the luxury tax
November 1st, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Eh, I disagree. I do think Royce White was a little over-hyped but Terrence Jones has a legit PF frame at 6’8″ 240ish and Motiejunas could play the position as well. Whether they’re the PF of the future or not is up for debate but the skill is there if developed properly.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I wouldnt worry about Kendall Marshall. Jan Vessley didnt play much at all for Washington last year and I have no doubts he’ll validate his high draft selection.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Bulls are unbeaten… who needs drose?
Boozer will excel in a season with no pressure
and taj gets new paper to keep from being torn apart as the rest of the league tries to get him
November 1st, 2012 at 10:29 AM
agreed that Stern told Phoenix not to pay the luxury tax
also acceptable:
and sell off their draft picks and not play defense.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:30 AM
They paid it. They just didn’t want to Joe Johnson pay it. The title Phoenix gave away is all on Barkley’s team. Oh yea now I remember Fuck Houston.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Vessley’s one of those guys that falls asleep on the court for long periods, hence the nickname Yawn Vessley.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:31 AM
@MPIII. Kingston, JA. But emigrated to the states and ended up in Houston in the early 80s. Was there for only about 5 years but my father’s love of basketball started there, as did mine. I think I started school Hakeem’s first year (?) and he was the first foreign black superstar ever. Been on the Rockets’ bandwagon ever since. Rockets were the only team to interrupt the Lakers’ dominance in the 80s and the Bulls’ dominance in the 90s. They are always the underdog, I respect the Mavericks but at heart the Rockets are #1.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:31 AM
That would be more accurate. I miss the Colangelos.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:34 AM
WHOA. The Natalie Portman photos removed from the list of stories on the right. WHAT THE HELL?!!!! OUTRAGE!!!

just finishing roundup, and i detect a meme:
i must preface agreeing with your point by emphasizing i usually don’t agree with your points

The Warriors were a lot scarier on offense when they had Monta.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:41 AM
let me get that for you.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:41 AM
he strikes me as a 2K version of Mark Jackson, which is pretty damn good.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Did not like Singler taking those long jumpers last night, but if he can consistently hit that shot now I’ll take it. I just had flashbacks to him shooting his way out of games at Duke.
Harden might be the best true combo guard in the league right now.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Kendall Marshall, a poor man’s Mateen Cleaves.
Singler made a wise move going to Spain during the lockout and getting his shot back. His shooting really fell off his sr. year at Duke. Should carve out a nice career as a role player/3 pt shooter.
November 1st, 2012 at 10:44 AM
But how was his crossover?
November 1st, 2012 at 11:07 AM
jose, i almost acted on your prediction of harden going off and pistons winning. didn;t get around to it due to halloween
November 1st, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Huh, I always thought that was Tito Horford.
November 1st, 2012 at 11:41 AM
No mention of Duncan starting the year off with 24 and 11? Love Kawhi Leonard to take a big step this year. 19 points on 13 shots with 7 boards and 5 steals.
November 1st, 2012 at 11:57 AM
No mention of Duncan starting the year off with 24 and 11?
truth, because he’ll sit the next two games with DNP Old
November 1st, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Well good thing too. Detroit blew it to a team that has maybe 3 real NBA players
November 1st, 2012 at 12:16 PM
No mention of Duncan starting the year off with 24 and 11?
who?
November 1st, 2012 at 12:27 PM
Ummm, no.
November 1st, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Crawford did what he does best. As a scorer off the bench, he is incendiary. One of the few, maybe only, guys in the Association who could get 40 off the bench in a given game.
