Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech QB, Sounds Like He’s Not Entering the NFL Draft
Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech’s 6-foot-6 QB who at times reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger and other times looks reminiscent of a confused Blaine Gabbert, sounds like he’s not entering the 2013 NFL draft. He told the media over the weekend:
“I’ve always told everybody that I’m planning on coming back for my last one.”
Obviously college kids change their mind frequently, but … Thomas has actually regressed this year as the Hokies are going through one of their worst seasons in years (4-4, no guarantee they’ll be bowl-eligible). Thomas is only completing 53 percent of his passes (59 percent last year) and already has as many interceptions (10) as he did all last season.
Thomas looks the part: a nimble 6-6, powerful arm strength, nice speed, and he’ll probably put on a show at the combine. But can he be accurate enough to warrant being a high draft pick?
Based on a strong sophomore year, I thought he’d play well this season and be a 1st round draft pick. Right now, Thomas looks like a much bigger project than Ryan Tannehill (a converted receiver) was entering last year’s draft.
It has been a rough year for QBs in college football. Matt Barkley of USC has struggled more than he did last season (many will blame his offensive line). Geno Smith of West Virginia was nothing short of incredible through the first six weeks, but descended from the firmament in losses to Texas Tech and Kansas State.
Aaron Murray of Georgia has not been sharp. Tyler Bray of Tennessee has been up and down. Tyler Wilson of Arkansas was hurt, and the Razorbacks are a dumpster fire.
Last year at this time, the 2012 draft QB class looked good; the 2013 draft looked loaded. With six weeks left in the season, there sure are a lot of question marks about which QB might go 1st (or even 2nd). [Pilot Online]

Makes sense for him to stay. If he’s not going to go in the top 2 rounds, why not stay and try to boost his stock. He has nothing to lose. If he has a strong senior year- he’s a first round pick. If he continues to regress, he’s still got a spot in the 3-4 range as a QB or a TE.
His problems aren’t all his own though. He’s got no receivers. He’s actually on pace to still break VT’s season passing yards record anyway though.

Can we finally get past the “converted wide receiver” thing with Tannehill? Guy was recruited as a QB and was drafted as a QB.
October 31st, 2012 at 2:14 PM
Does he deserve one?
October 31st, 2012 at 2:17 PM
His numbers are pretty similar to Josh Freeman’s sophomore and junior years just reversed, definitely needs to go back.
/I’m sooo totally post-racial that I can compare QB’s of similar race
October 31st, 2012 at 2:17 PM
he is not going to the nfl because he is a horrible football player.
also because the role of big, black combine stud is already filled by EJ Manuel this year. That means this guy might get compared to Spurgeon Wynn instead of Cam Newton.
So he has to wait a year, for his turn to be the big black combine stud.
/left unsaid, the combine is a slave auction not a job interiew

It sounds like the NFL is going to have a dearth of quarterbacks next year. Whatever will they do? You know, besides continue to employ people like Colt McCoy, Brady Quinn and Jason Campbell.

October 31st, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Now that QBs only cost draft picks and not cap-crushing contracts, combined with the recent spate of successful rookies/young QBs, I imagine more and more teams will pick QBs “too high”… if you think he’s a decent starter, there’s almost no such thing as too high.
It’s a ‘passing’ league (supposedly, though I think running game is more important now that everyone can throw) and with the focus on concussions etc, having a good backup QB is very important. I see the rapid draft-day/month ascents made by guys like Weeden/Tannehill and wonder where the trend is going… Jim Druckenmiller might be a top 15 pick these days.

Only be people with no eye for talent. The extent to which Barkley, Bray, Wilson, & Thomas were being overrated by this and other sites made me laugh continuously. None of those 4 will ever be a decent starting QB in the NFL.
October 31st, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Who were some good tall qb? Say 6-5 at least
October 31st, 2012 at 2:27 PM
So wait, how tall is Thomas?
October 31st, 2012 at 2:28 PM
God 1997 was a terrible QB draft…
Druckenmiller, Plummer, Weurffel, Pat Barnes, Mike Cherry, Chuck Clements, Tony Graziani, Koy Detmer were the first eight off the board. Holy shit.
Kitna and Delhomme were also undrafted that year.
Of course 1996 had no 1st rounders at all, with Tony Banks and Bobby Hoying the first two off the board.
October 31st, 2012 at 2:28 PM
considering weeden beat luck, griffin and tannehill last year and also had the best stats out of the bunch as well as all the intangible shit scouts want, i wouldn’t say that he rose to the first round considering the only thing keeping him from being a top 10 pick was his age (which makes no sense considering he’s a non-mobile QB).
and druckenmiller was picked 26th…there aint much difference between 26 and 15 when you’re talking about WAY overreaching for a QB.
October 31st, 2012 at 2:28 PM
If lefty Matt Sanchez can be a top 8 QB, then just about anyone can make it.

WERE a dumpster fire, I think is has been reduced to a small kitchen grease fire now. but why does the teams play affect where the QB is drafted anyways? For how shitty the Razorbacks have been playing, Wilson hasn’t been too bad at all really.
October 31st, 2012 at 2:32 PM
I think that’s my point… if there’s a guy who you think can be a decent starter, you pick him, even top 10. I wonder if you’ll see fewer (or we have been seeing fewer) QBs get “2nd/3rd” round labels… either you need a QB and you reach and hope in the 1st as early as you can, or you don’t and wait till you can take a chance late.
The teams striking fast on Locker/Gabbert/Ponder before they got scooped up was hilarious to me, but that’s where we are.

Let us not forget, Foster was criticized and not really liked that much his entire career at TN. Not saying Bray will be good or even a starter for that matter, but he’s got skills. He just makes terrible decisions.

The thing that turns me off most about Republicans/FoxNews I see, is that I feel like there is no longer an opinion or philosophy, but just any attempt to discredit Obama. It doesn’t matter what he did, just have to criticize it so it sounds bad.
“we need to act in Syria”
“Obama shouldn’t have acted in Syria”…
I’m sure it goes the other way too, but I don’t see it as much. It’s just disgusting.

GOP problem is they are not rational in their demands. Nothing will reduce abortion more in this country than Obamacare and the anti-aboriton front are desperately trying to shutter it and Planned Parenthood.
More contraception means less abortions.
Socialized medicine means more women can afford pregnancy.
Pro-Life should have fucking statues of Obama but they cannot because it’s merely a fuck-tarded movement by the religious right who are somehow still really pissed about Eve.

A big problem is that intentions on a few have been repeated by FoxNews so much that it’s applied to everyone…
A few people don’t want to work more so they can stay on welfare/food stamps. A few people (allegedly) have more kids to get bigger welfare checks. Somehow people believe this is everyone who gets gov’t assistance.

October 31st, 2012 at 2:59 PM
No doubt. But I will say that works two ways to some extent. Not every rich guy is a selfish greedy prick who abdicates himself of any moral responsibility in pursuit of a dollar. Nor is every business a shady, tax-dodging conglomerate shipping jobs overseas and firing staff to drive the share price up a penny.
Both sides of guilty of generalized demonization, although I’ll say right has done a far better job of getting their stereotypes accepted by the mainstream.

B/c somewhere in the bible it speaks to personal responsibility. There’s a point at which charity ends and it becomes a handout to a mooch.
So instead of saying “Go fuck yourself”, they should be saying “I’m sorry, but this is your last handout b/c you can take responsibility for yourself” (The Christian FU)

B/c somewhere in the bible it speaks to personal responsibility. There’s a point at which charity ends and it becomes a handout to a mooch.
This might be more dogmatic than canonical. There is no adjunct to “the Golden Rule.” Are you thinking of Ben Franklin’s saying that God helps those that help themselves?
