Heisman 2012 Power Rankings: Week Nine
Collin Klein [Kansas State] The Wildcats were not impressed by Tommy Tuberville’s resume against top five teams. Klein completed 73 percent of his passes and posted 316 total yards and four touchdowns as Kansas State put up 55 for the second consecutive week.
Manti Te’o [Notre Dame] He had a huge game, in a major upset that leaves Notre Dame a win at USC away from an undefeated season. He has the compelling narrative and the fact he plays for Notre Dame working for him. Barring disaster he should reach the podium.
A.J. McCarron [Alabama] McCarron had another efficient performance (16/23, 208 yards, 2 TD) against Mississippi State. He still has not thrown an interception this season. He has not had much pub, but could emerge as default should other candidates falter.
Kenjon Barner [Oregon] Barner touched the ball 11 times against Colorado, producing 157 total yards and two touchdowns. Needs to do it in Oregon’s upcoming big games to move up.
Geno Smith [West Virginia] West Virginia hopefully regrouped over the bye week. Smith needs to start winning and will need a huge performance vs. Oklahoma on Nov. 17 to get back in the mix.

shittiest Heisman field ever
October 30th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
Ryan Shazier has better numbers than Manti Te’o.
October 30th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
This list should be condensed to 3. It really fell off after McCarron.
October 30th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
The only way AJ has a shot is if Bama remains undefeated and makes to the title game. Otherwise, it’s between Klein and Manti.
October 30th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
“Folks, you heard it here first: Notre Dame is relevant again”
- Brent Muffdiver, the second the OU/ND game was in hand
FUCK THAT GUY
October 30th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
This list is sad.
I’m waiting for Oregon to face a team good enough for me to watch them play. I have a feeling they are massively overrated, but dont really know. Not sure that chewing up USC’s pathetic defense will tell us anything.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
Braxton’s not a front runner but he sure as hell is in the top 5.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
Te’o has more solo tackles per game, more assists per game, way more interceptions (in less games). Shazier has more sacks.
Good post.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
Agreed Notre Dame was never irrelevant despite what people on the internet tripped over themselves to say first
October 30th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
At least Barkley has no realistic shot at going to NYC. Fuck that douche
October 30th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
1992 would like a word with you.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
This. Also, can we please quit sucking his dick over that AVERAGE AT BEST interception? I mean seriously, the majority of college linebackers make that play with regularity every single fucking weekend.
/and ND fans wonder why the rest of the world thinks they are terrible
//don’t care if you didn’t ask for it or bring it on yourselves
October 30th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Shazier has more forced fumbles and TFL. I’m not saying Shazier belongs in the conversation. He doesn’t. Just that Te’o being number 2 is bullshit.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
Being a ND fan aside, them somehow winning the national championship would be the best thing ever because of how many of you people would lose your shit and possibly kill yourselves.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
forgot to include “his” name: Matt-tie Tay-o(sp?)
October 30th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
How is that one RB that transferred from PSU to USC doing?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Braxton would be on here before the guy from Alabama. Also, K-State had a defense TD. Little sick of the the Big 12 Jason White fraudy QBs.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
80 tackles 3 picks 3 pass defended who really gives a fuck.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Do you really think this is appropriate with what’s happening on the eastern seaboard?
/Sits back waiting for an apology
October 30th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
Meh. I think he’s getting more touches since McNeal got hurt I believe. Nothing special. Should have stayed at PSU.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
On track for his best year yet.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:09 PM
Please stop with this bullshit. In no possible way does McCarron belong in this converstaion.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Shazier has more forced fumbles and TFL. Vlad
No such thing, Vlad. Fumbles are all luck.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Being a Bama fan aside, it would be a great thing if they came back to relevance and won a championship. I would think everyone would agree that college football is better all around when Notre Dame is doing well.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
The only way AJ has a shot is
if Bama remains undefeated and makes to the title game. Otherwise, it’s between Klein and Mantihis mom’s a MILF.FIXED.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Those aren’t Te’o's stats, who is that referring to?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:12 PM
Also, K-State had a defense TD. Little sick of the the Big 12 Jason White fraudy QBs.
Klein will not be in the NFL. However, there is little comparison between him and the delicate flower, White.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:12 PM
The good thing I won’t have to worry about the possible suicide because ND will find a way to choke.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
By highlighting “forced” you got the meme wrong since it’s fumble recoveries that are luck
October 30th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
I don’t mind ND winning. But definitely enjoy watching them and their fans when they lose.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
Whoops
/jmorris’d
October 30th, 2012 at 2:14 PM
Geaux Pitt.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:15 PM
basically this:
So with that being said, now that the BCS issue has been somewhat addressed, can we now turn our collective attention to the dog and pony show that is the Heisman Trophy?
/reads last sentence again
//laughs at self
October 30th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
By highlighting “forced” you got the meme wrong since it’s fumble recoveries that are luck
You are correct. I was getting ahead of myself.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
If Te’o played at ANY OTHER SCHOOL, and if his grandmother and girlfriend had not both died, believe me, he would not only not be No. 2, he would not be on anyone’s radar.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
Now do Minter and Jackson.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
I love ND, but Bama would rip their head off and shit down their necks.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
I forgot 2 picks.
Charles Woodson did not do much either:
Season defensive stats: 42 tackles (4 for losses), 1 sack, 7 INT
Season receiving: 11 catches, 231 yards; 3 carries, 15 yards, 3 TD
October 30th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
You forgot to ask Jason to ban everyone here.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
why is the ducks QB not in this discussion?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
Now do Minter and
JacksonJones.shit.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
Because duffy doesn’t recognize west coast football.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
I thought it was both since, you know, all schools teach people to strip the ball.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
System QB surrounded by SEC speed.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
Kenjon Barner [Oregon] plays west coast football
October 30th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
I don’t wonder why. I just don’t give a shit, like every fan of every other school.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
I don’t think the judges will allow using this after advocating an Urban Meyer product earlier in the thread
October 30th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
He has a point
October 30th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
Phillip Thomas has 54 tackles, 7 picks 3 touchdowns, 3 sacks.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:23 PM
Are you saying the Heisman is a popularity contest? You get the fuck out of here with that nonsense.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Enjoy that System QB decimating the shitty B1G in ’13 and ’14.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
You forgot to include punt and kick returns as well as the fact he took one side of the field out of play.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:25 PM
Charles Woodson was so good.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:25 PM
Marqise Lee WR 76 1129 14.9 83 10
Terrance Williams, WR 60 1203 20.1 80 9

tripped over kalifornia last night about 1130. didn’t mean to watch the whole thing but i did

/what a body on the photographer girl
October 30th, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Uh……..yeah..well……system DB. Yeah system DB and his dog died or whatever.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:28 PM
Will do?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Its a disgusting offense. With the right QB it works, but that doesn’t change the fact that its hideous.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Just like Oklahoma was supposed to do.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Except that he loves to fumble during inopportune moments and disappeared during crunch time vs Stanford and Zona
October 30th, 2012 at 2:30 PM
Comparing Bama and Oklahoma is laughable. Stoops is out there playing shoots and ladders while Saban is playing chess
October 30th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
Been pretty succesful, don’t you think?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:33 PM
Agreed. But every week people have been saying ND will lose and they haven’t yet.
They’re no more fraudtastic than any other team in the BCS hunt right now.
Bitches acting like Alabama’s been playing NFL teams every fucking week.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:33 PM
Except that he loves to fumble during inopportune moments and disappeared during crunch time vs Stanford and Zona
jet lag?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:34 PM
shoots
or chutes
October 30th, 2012 at 2:34 PM
Again, this is Heisman rankings not who I think is the best player rankings.
McCarron
QB – of best team in country
Passer Rating – No. 1 overall nationally
TD/INT of 18/0
He’ll get a strong regional push from the SEC voting contingent. That’s why he’s there.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:36 PM
And I agree, even as a ND fan, that him being a lock for the podium is a result of the poor field and the school he plays for.
ND is the only school to ever have players get a bump in reputation.
/Every USC QB ever
October 30th, 2012 at 2:37 PM
Seeing Tweets on Sundays from people mocking computers and nerds because Bama’s not ranked #1 in every single component of the BCS is becoming a favorite tradition of mine…this is what happens when your schedule to date has been filled with bums
October 30th, 2012 at 2:38 PM
But they played Michigan
/wanking motion
October 30th, 2012 at 2:39 PM
this notre dame team scarily reminds me of the 2002 ohio state team that knocked off miami.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:39 PM
Hmmm well seeing they just stuck their manhood into Mississippi State who was the 11th ranked team in the country
October 30th, 2012 at 2:40 PM
Agreed ND needed officiating help to get where they are.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:40 PM
The Tide hasn’t even faced Western Carolina (whose sole win came against a school that doesn’t have a page on ESPN.com) yet
October 30th, 2012 at 2:40 PM
Agree to disagree. I’m not buying it.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:41 PM
officiating help = correctly flagging obvious pass interference?
i dont think “help” is necessary…that’s just officiating.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:42 PM
The same Mississippi State team that got up to #11 by playing one of the weakest schedules around and has only beaten one winning team (Middle Tennessee) all year?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Agreed the Stanford call was correct.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Are you fucking kidding me?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Because the voters respect record over schedule and they happened to be 7-0 against a worst collection of opponents (at first I thought it included two 1-AA teams but come to find out South Alabama is a member of the big leagues now, good for them)…if Miss St beats Texas A&M I’ll view them more favorably but it’s still correct to say Alabama’s schedule to date hasn’t been stellar
October 30th, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Mississippi State who was the 11th ranked team in the country
this says more about shitty rankings/weak group of teams this year. was ou so great that we have to slobber on ND? what was OU’s best win?
Texas?
it was a nice win on the road. much like the best NFC teams who have almost zero wins over teams better than .500, it’s been tough to say any cfb team is dominant/great w/o some discussion of schedule strength
October 30th, 2012 at 2:43 PM
There are some very good similarities between the two teams. Will Everett Ghoulson play the Clarrett role and drive around with shotguns and Grey Goose?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
Thanks for proving you’re an idiot. That Miss St. team had such a laughable schedule. I think there best win was against Auburn. Funny stuff.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
“this notre dame team scarily reminds me of the 2002 ohio state team that knocked off miami.”
So ND is one horrible PI call away from stealing a national title? I agree.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
are you?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Yes, Bama fucking up the 11th ranked team in the country proves I’m an idiot. Try again
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Does Tommy Rees have an NRA card?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Unranked in the preseason poll though so say you’re sorry
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
got it…there’s obviously a 2.5 second rule for throwing a flag.
/youre all morons
//i get OSU hate, but there’s no excuse for being stupid
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Haters gonna hate.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
How about you try reading any of the comments that note the abysmal opponents played to get to number eleven.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
Creepy.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Yeah again, I do love the “ND is so overrated every year” talk but they have started the majority of the last ten seasons ranked out of the top 25. This isn’t a garbage Big Ten team backing into a title game because of early inflated rankings.
… it’s usually a garbage independent team backing into a low level BCS game instead, BUT THIS YEAR MIGHT BE DIFFERENT is the point
October 30th, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Some of us agree with you. Simmer down.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
Hanging your hat on the “11th ranked team in the country” does.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
Yes, that same one. Most overrated team in the top 15. It was very obvious after the first quarter they were not deserving of their ranking, and you won’t find many Bama fans that won’t agree with me.
/well, you might find a few
October 30th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
There’s room for both this year since Boise St is looking good to make it too…hopefully with USC out of the picture Oregon makes it to the title game, the Rose Bowl pits Nebraska against Boise and we can all find better things to do with our time
October 30th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
Never seen moleman so fired up about something.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
No one is denying that Miss State had a terrible schedule, but regardless their, Bama just fucking destroyed them. Just like they destroyed Michigan when ranked 8th. Every team that has lined up against them has been worked.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Dude, Miss States resume was and is shit. Bama pushed their shit in because they were much weaker than their inflated ranking. Getting all hung up on their ranking is what’s stupid.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
If we passing around photo-shops it might as well be cool.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
BTW, I love Dotre Dames helmets. I can’t say it enough.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Awesome, thanks douche
October 30th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
I don’t think anyone is arguing that Alabama is not the best team in the country.
All we’re saying is is that their schedule has been a tad weak thus far so it’s not super easy to judge how they would fair in the title game even though they will definitely rightly be favorites – most likely by a hot bit – against whomever it is they play.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
CAMPING TRIP CANCELLED.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Notre Dame is losing to Pitt this weekend. Would bet my house on it.
/does not own a house
October 30th, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Would not shock me in the least. Though obviously for poetic effect it should be Boston College that ends their season.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:55 PM
It def has been a tad weak, but then again I don’t think anyone was expecting Arkansas to be so fucking shitty that early on in the season. However John L. is the coach so maybe people did?
October 30th, 2012 at 2:55 PM
I’d bet jck’s house on it.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:56 PM
/Bangs head against desk
October 30th, 2012 at 2:56 PM
With that offense though this could end up being one of the best Bama teams ever assembled, just have to wait until they wax the asses of the SEC and NCG opponents.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
Butters right now.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
Never seen moleman so fired up about something.
You should see him on Tamale Tuesdays down at the Taco Shack.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:58 PM
Bought this industrial drum of anal lubricant for nothing now.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:58 PM
I had mexican food for lunch.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:58 PM
I understood it early in the season, the “ND is fraudy” talk, but they keep winning and keep beating teams that everyone says they’ll lose to. Reading the thread after they beat OU here and everyone saying it meant nothing – after saying OU would stomp them – was just irritating.
Will they play for the title? I seriously doubt it.
Are they one of the ten best teams in the country? Anyone who would argue to the contrary is a moron.
October 30th, 2012 at 2:59 PM
Me too!
October 30th, 2012 at 2:59 PM
Damn, good call.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
I hate ND. And I didn’t think they’d be that good this year. But that defense is legit. They’ve played a decent schedule. Because of that defense, they’d hang with any team, including Alabama. However, fuck Notre Dame.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
Word.
/farts
October 30th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
Cannot argue with any of that.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
I had mexican food for lunch.
Me too!
Of course you did. It is Tamale Tuesday and you are fired up.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:02 PM
Put in the legwork to get the phone out to see what that YouTube link was and was not disappointed
October 30th, 2012 at 3:02 PM
There’s a little Mexican place – run by Italians – on the corner that I never knew about until two weeks ago, has some of the freshest food I’ve had in this city. I get a chicken salad in a shell, so good. Was a nice step up from the Greek place in the lobby.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:03 PM
Moleman is jck49er?
October 30th, 2012 at 3:04 PM
It’s a taco salad though so it’s in a huge shell, the thinking man’s unhealthy salad.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:06 PM
Oh, well I had an al pastor salad with avocado. And beans. And cheese. And sour cream, tomatoes, and lettuce. And it was wrapped in a huge tortilla.
That’s a salad, right?
October 30th, 2012 at 3:07 PM
Any trace of lettuce = instant salad.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:08 PM
Which is why when Coop gives handies in the produce department at the grocery store on his lunch break he can tell people he’s going out to get a salad.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:12 PM
How exactly is that a ‘major upset’.
Also… you are an idiot if you think that ND couldn’t lose to any team but USC left on their sched., however unlikely it may be. They may be good, but no team with identifiable weaknesses is unbeatable.
Plus I heard from a shitty source that Tino Sunseri is a top 5 QB in the nation.
/it was you
October 30th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
BC is pretty shitty
October 30th, 2012 at 3:15 PM
A 27.5 swing from the line to the outcome is a rather big upset.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:17 PM
After USC gets run by Oregon this weekend the ND game will be the only thing they have left to play for (well that and a shitty bowl) and they will smoke ND by two TD’s…
October 30th, 2012 at 3:18 PM
Bull. Shit.
So every blowout is an “upset”? Take that idiotic narrative out of here.
According to you, the Patriots beating the Rams was a huge upset too?
October 30th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Though holy shit I just saw the line was double digits for Oklahoma. That was a fucking gimme if there ever was one… when did the Sooners become the 2007 Patriots? WTF?
October 30th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
Wow that’s ridiculously stupid in comparison.
Had the Patriots been double digit underdogs and nearly doubled the spread in their favor, yes, that would be a huge upset.
Nobody was giving ND a chance.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
So’s Wake, and Pitt is mediocre with flashes of talent. It’s still idiotic to suggest that Notre Dame has no chance of losing to anyone but USC.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:22 PM
I think it was definitely an upset but whether any game involving two top ten teams can be a “major” one would be debatable I suppose.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:22 PM
I’m taking that back Mole… I still don’t think it’s a huge upset, because it was a matchup of two top ten teams. But according to Vegas is was pretty big.
That said, if anyone considers it a huge upset, they were buying into a ridiculous line, and Oklahoma in a big game. Good luck with that.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
Not saying that, I definitely wouldn’t bet them giving 17.5 to Pitt as they almost lost to fucking Purdue at home and were losing at half at home to the Fighting Mormons. However, they SHOULD win out
October 30th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
Agreed. If the game was at Heinz, I’d jump on any spread over 7. In South Bend, I’d hesitate. I have bad memories of Justin Tuck running a train up and down the Pitt OL in South Bend years ago.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
I would like to clarify: I don’t hate Notre Dame itself. I do, however, hate Intern Killer Kelly and his Golden Dome enablers with every fiber of my being.
That said, I have to admit the Irish have played one of the toughest, if not the toughest, schedule in CFB this season.
And that said, I am rooting for Pitt, Wake Forest and BC the next three weeks.
If that fails, Bama will skullfuck that fucking ferret-faced leper-chaun in the NC game.
October 30th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
True, but I still think Oregon or K State get there before they do. They still have to play USC in the Collisseum which is no gimme no matter how shitty Kiffin is as a coach.
