Roundup: Sandy Slamming the Northeast, English Premier League Heads to NBC Sports & Drunk Parasailing
Jessica White wore this to a Halloween party … Sandy storm map you need to bookmark if you live in the Northeast … here’s a wind map of the country … Republicans don’t like Nate Silver because of math … a photo of a car that drove through a Blockbuster video window … as disturbing as it gets: “Majority harbor prejudice against blacks” … Q&A with Jay Mariotti … interesting profile on Chelsea’s John Terry … Seal dressed up as Kevin Garnett for Halloween, and this was his mystery date … Howard Kurtz keeps doing his contrarian journalist thing …

That’s a pretty lady.
Prediction: it will never change.
Don’t forget the converted TE who’s now the backup QB. You ask me, I blame the funky uniforms.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:23 AM
How many decades has the NFL been in existence? Nine? Well, in that ENTIRE window of existence, there has never been a defense as awful as the 2012 Saints defense. This defense deserves every terrible thing written about it.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
as disturbing as it gets: “Majority harbor prejudice against blacks”
Prediction: it will never change.
I’m slightly more hopeful. Those numbers will take a hit when the entire generation of folks born before the civil rights act die off.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Yet somehow, they are all better than Danny O’Brien was this year.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
How many other East Coasters got a 3 day weekend cause of Sandy?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
heldover, I watched the game too, and I shudder to think the Chargers will look as bad or worse when they go to Denver. I was ready to write off P. Manning earlier this season, but he’s looked pretty good lately.
Regarding the generation of older folk, they still passed on their viewpoints to their kids. We’re all so tribal as people. By nature & nurture, we gravitate towards what’s familiar/shun what’s not.
I wish we had hours/days to discuss this. We can fix this world, as humans. Collectively, we just don’t want to.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
to you guys out in sandy territory, stay safe
going to be sunny and in the mid 80s this week.
kurtz link doesn’t work
October 29th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
At work currently, but I expect to get out by 11. I’m in southeast CT and they are already talking about closing bridges.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Fuck you. Really hope they let us out early, but who knows. Probably will have to end up taking a ‘vacation’ day tomorrow.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Giving up just under 475 yards a game! You have to start your fantasy guys against them, no matter who else you have.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM

October 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Wow, that’s pretty negative. Do you not think there has been some change in your lifetime?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
I’m in northeast PA and it’s barely raining here. Supposed to be hit hardest after midnight tonight, yet all of the local schools and a lot of local business closed for today.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
I’m in DC and they closed our office (we apparently follow the fed protocols on inclement weather, and the feds closed). its weird because it is just a consistent, not too hard rain right now. since it is supposed to be worse tomorrow I’m thinking they’ll close tomorrow too.
thankfully in my area we have buried power lines, and haven’t lost power since I’ve been in my current place
October 29th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
“Fire hillbilly Leyland.”
//Hope I did that correctly
October 29th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
I took off today to help my Dad, his basement gets flooded sometimes with heavy rains and he’ll be dumping, sump pumpin water today. I hate that shit, especially when it’s cold too. Screw all the folks in this area who said we didn’t get enough rain this summer. Be careful what you wish for. Until I see tumbleweeds blowing across my streets, I’m not too worried about lack of water supply.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Glad I ignored the “Andy Reid is undefeated after a bye week” advice last week. Atlanta over Philly was the easiest pick of the day yesterday. 11-2 ATS, killing the competition in my pick-em league
October 29th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Schools around DC are already closed through Tuesday. Metro shut down for the first time since 2003 (Isabel). D batteries going for $50 a pack on the black market.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
Not in my parts. It’s going to be total armageddon with phone calls regarding roof leaks at my office.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
I don’t like him because he tells me things I don’t want to believe are true. I think he’s a staunch Obama supporter, but I’ve seen nothing to indicate that that is a factor in his number crunching.
Any idea how a Romney win in Ohio would impact Silver’s projections?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
There has been change, to be sure. I’ve personally benefitted from change. However, I would ask you to do this: just watch the world around you. I see it in my own church, every week.
I get to serve as an usher, and I see literally 300 or more people every Sunday. I make eye contact with dozens or scores of folk, and watch quite a few of ‘em tense up or look perplexed, as if to say “what do I do?
I offer a smile, a friendly handshake. I’m no Denzel, but I’m not Quasimodo either. Quite a few respond in kind, but just as many give me the “I’m not used to speaking to folk like you” body language.
So I ask you in return (rhetorically), what is the true nature of prejudice?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
whoa…britsh guy gonna uncover 140 spitfires from WWII buried in burma, or as you probably now call it, myanmar.

Yup, everything is shut down, daycare, schools, universities. Makes no sense, the worst doesn’t look like its hitting Boston until tomorrow. Might be a 4 day weekend.

i’m on the sore of lake erie in cleveland and they are saying to be prepared for flooding and 15′ waves. gnarly.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Sadly,I did not. Last time I put my earnings on Vick and that awful OFF. not that DEF was too stellar themselves, but I think after awhile they quit cause they know Vick’s not bringing them back.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Shit about to get nuts here in Boston!
October 29th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
SROD…apologies for having phil rivers as your QB. floaty mcmarmalard couldnt do shit in that rainy wind.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
I’m working from home today…yes, I’m at home, but no vacation when I have a crap load of work to do too.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:45 AM

October 29th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
SROD bringing the truth. Boom

why do we need FEMA…can’t everyone just ride out the floods on their boat?
-mitt romney
October 29th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
spencer, no apology necessary. Congrats to your team on a gritty win. Your team has hope.
Watched the 1st quarter late last night, and you were spot on regarding the Browns’ OL play. Richardson is a beast at TB.
Rivers stinks right now. It’s just a continuation of his spotty play from last year, without Vincent Jackson around to salvage poorly-thrown deep balls. I think Rivers has peaked as a QB.
Also, I read the Spitfire story. Dang, that’s cool. Spitfires are sweet aircraft. Would love to fly in one.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:49 AM

it will always be Burma to me.

I am not sure if that’s mathematically possible given the depth of Lake Erie in the Cleveland area. I have no doubt that is what’s been said.

Pretty much had a break even Sunday, but was on the ATL easy money – SD (just to win) cost me a multi-team parlay that would have paid nicely. Continue to just kill NCAA right now. 10-4 this Sat.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
What will it take for Norv to get the axe?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
The sore of lake Erie is called Cleveland.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Yes, like making up numbers to fudge his projections. Usually not a good trait for a statistician.
/They would totally fuck his projections.

That’s a pretty lady there, I would have not been offended if she showed up at a Halloween party dressed like that. Sadly there was no one dressed like that at party I went to on Friday nite. She can get it

GOLD Jerry. GOLD!
October 29th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
SROD…spitfire vs. mustang, who ya got?
i dont think rivers has peaked, he wasn’t really helped by his WR’s or OL. browns got way too much pressure considering they don’t have any pass rush to speak of. matthews, aside from that fumble, had a pretty solid day too.
but it’s hard not to think they just looked like they didn’t wanna be out there. things like jogging while chasing plays, no sense of urgency, nobody getting worked up except rivers…norv’s gotta go.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
That’s an awesome story. Who wants to go to Australia to help me find those 232 spitfires buried there?
October 29th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
I have no earthly idea. He looks befuddled, the team looks dispirited. “Burn down the mission”, I say. They really need to scour out that roster, maybe hit rock bottom, and rebuild.
I miss Martyball.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
he wasn’t really helped by his WR
or just Robert Meachem
October 29th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Cold and windy here in Atlanta, but I’m usually in contact with our NE Techs. Good thoughts go out to all in the North East.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Roeth did you take PSU sat nite? Stilled pissed about that game, stop Braxton running the ball and make him throw to beat you and that’s game over. Disappointed with the psu gameplan and Mcgloin looked like the QB from last year, throwing off the back foot. No confidence and seemed like the moment was too big
/betting against. Buckeyes next week
October 29th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Rivers has these hissy fits after every pass. Borderline hysterics. “Don’t let them see you sweat” is an axiom he’s never heard.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Un-researched, knee-jerk response would be Mustangs, because I heard more about ‘em (heh). What would you choose?
After some light Googling, the Mustang had longer legs, but the Spitfire excelled at point defense.
I’d take whichever one I could get my hands on faster.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said, though I’ve never personally experienced it, I’ve certainly seen it.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
as disturbing as it gets: “Majority harbor prejudice against blacks”
Thats total bs.
Oh ya, friggin hate that round up pic.
October 29th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
CLE radio said after San Diego had tried a failed reverse (after about 7 straight successful power runs) some Charger got up in Turner’s face and screamed him down.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Buncha hurricane rookies up north; hope you guys make it out okay.
Also, Zoey’s performance wasn’t BEST EVARRR or anything, but it was lightyears ahead of that floozie last night.
Lastly, that girl that’s with Seal? Kinda looks like ARods girl. kinda.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Nate Silver allows his bias to affect his forecasting.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
The bias is also driven by perceived and actual socioeconomic conditions and not solely race.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
“OMG, it’s raining. What do we do? Waaaaaaa!”
Mathews had a few decent runs in the 1st…before the fumble.
scripty, Rivers’ antics are starting to frustrate me. When he was playing well, it was “he’s a fiery leader”. Now, he seems like a whiner. A true field general has to show more focus & poise.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Which sounds worse to you:
The majority
51%
1% more than half
Just over half
take your time….
October 29th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
really? if prejudice is simply pre-judging, i would think it’s a considerable majority.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
I was at the PSU/OSU game Sat night. Before and after tailgating was 100x’s better than the game. Extremely disappointed in the outcome
October 29th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Right there. And teammates get sick of that shit too, do your job and stop yelling at me ass hole. Rivers is, and always has been, a loser.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Chargers probably should’ve kept V-Jax consider how much better he made Rivers look over the years.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
I’d guess we all do it. Pre-judging is fast & easy. I’d offer the point that it’s one of the things humans do best.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
SROD, I have to say man, you are basically asking to change human nature. It’s not just a “we don’t want to”, it is hardwired into our DNA. Yes, things have gotten better in your lifetime as someone mentioned, but it’s the way humans are. Having a tolerant society is the most we can hope for, because for every one person who is accepting of other people’s differences (not just race , but religion, ethnicity etc.) there is a multitude that would just as rather not have too eal with them ever.
On a lighter note, Walking Dead was horrible last night. Felt like a stretched out farm episode from last season.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Marty Ball gets the axe after a 14-2 season that ends because a DB can’t hold on to the ball after an INT. Yet Norv continues to keep his job year after disappointing year.
/team Marty Ball
October 29th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Ha! That’s why I always hated it when a broadcaster noticed a QB on the sideline yelling at teammates (“he’s motivating them! He’s a leader!”), but the broadcaster never mentioned “those other guys are tuning out the screamer”.
Who likes getting yelled at, at work?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
While it sucked to lose, it was nice to see that we can still have a big game. I traded emails with all my OSU friends, made plans and nearly drove 7 hours back (glad I didnt), and was pumped all week. People tried to take that excitement and energy away, but they cant. Next few years wont be the greatest ever, but we aren’t turning into Illinois.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
really? we watched the same episode, witht he governor, right?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
That is a reasonable goal. On some level, we have a good amount of that now.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
WTF is this Vick or Sanchez bullshit on SportsCenter?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
I thought Penn State’s offense over the last decade had taken care of that
October 29th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Re: PSU/OSU
I think its clear that OSU has the better team (If they had a semi competent coach last year, that team wins 8-9 games, likely including Penn State – they didn’t so they didn’t). OL started dominating PSU’s DL and LBs in the 2nd half.
All that said, if I’m PSU i’m excited to have BOB as a coach (not so much Ted Roof). He put his guys in a position to succeed. Attrition showed on the PSU OL. Combine that with McGloin regressingand it made for a long day. But the future (5-8 years down the road) is bright assuming you can keep BOB.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
So does this mean PSU people can stop bitching about the NCAA sanctions for covering up years of child abuse inside their football program? You still have your team, and you can still have a great game environment. That could have been taken away but they punished you in other ways. Lucky to be able to have a primetime game on a Saturday IMO.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Introduction of the governor was cool, but there was a lot of dead time. I get it is setting up a lot of stuff for the rest of the season. But it dragged quite a bit.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I haven’t heard any bitching in a while. And it wasn’t a coverup, it was incompetence combined with a vacuum of leadership.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
Ha!
October 29th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
In a famous sermon Dr. King gave, the Drum Major Instinct, he perfectly captured the biggest factor in racism in this country when he gave a recount of his conversations with the jail guards in Alabama. My personal experiences, which have allowed me to live in two different worlds in my lifetime have pretty much confirmed to me what he concluded.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Um last night’s dominated, as has the whole season so far
October 29th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
That’s a fine ass sistah up there…gotdamn
October 29th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
So (to the illogical extreme), every other person I encounter today pre-judges me (probably falsely) without actually knowing my character.
Uh, “hooray”?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
if you’re a weather dork like me, this map is pretty sweet.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
While I missed the main characters, I am very intrigued by the Gov. Not knowing anything about the comic, I could tell something wasnt right with him, and it still shocked me when they wasted those army dudes.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I’ve pretty much been on Team Dimple Chin since day 1. Always liked his “stop being a bunch of fucking crybabies and move on” approach towards the sanctions. It’s also nice to see a head coach actually coach during the game for a change.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
China, Japan, every other place on the planet.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
i guess i can see that. it was slower than the last couple episodes but I don’t think it’s farm level slowness with endless dialogues by a fence about the existential nature of the duality of man.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
Yeah – that was one of my losses. I really didn’t like the bet, but I had won on PSU the last 6 weeks (the 5 wins and the UVa cover) so I kept with it.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Another study shows that blacks have a prejudices against everyone else….
October 29th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Re: PSU/OSU
Bill O’Brien to the Browns.
/please make this happen
October 29th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Again, the governor is a great character. Yes, showing him blowing away the army guys was impactful, but a lot of the episode was wasted space. It is setting up good episodes coming up I am sure, it was just a little slow.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Also another study show that blacks have prejudices against blacks as well
October 29th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Although quite a bit happened it was still pretty slow, re: Walking Dead. Interested to find out what the fish tanks were for. Love how it’s obvious not showing other characters because of budget.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Just read it. I wish everyone would. Excellent food for thought.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Haha! Definitely not. One element I do like is how Michonne doesn’t trust anyone in their camp, wants to leave, yet can’t leave without Andrea. Also, they probably can’t leave, the Governor says they can but he will probably pull an Army thing on them.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
I’ve been a little concerned about this, but apparently his deal is structured in a way that has a large buyout for both sides to get out of any time soon, like 2 mill a year for the next 6 years.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Jessica White wore this to a Halloween party
That’s a halloween costume?
I need to attend more halloween parties attended by women who dress as “hot girl in lingerie”.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
what he said.
It’s like Steeler fans bitching about Big Grey being suspended for doing nothing wrong. It will never stop.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Generally I agree that OSU was the better team on Sat. night, particularly their front 7 blowing up our OL. But, the officiating was an unmitigated disaster. Check out the hold on Mauti (number 42 at the bottom of the line) at the 0:38 mark on Braxton’s dancing TD.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
I think that BOB will probably take a NFL coaching gig in 2-3 years. I may be projecting, but even with a solid QB, the next 5-6 years are going to be very rough. You simply can’t miss on any recruits or you’ll be plugging in walk-ons.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
More than that. It’s roughly $2.5 million/year. His original 4 year contract was automatically extended for each year of sanctions (so at least 8 years now). You’d be looking at $20 million to buy him out.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
/O-Face’d
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Yep, on both counts. I didn’t quite pass the “paper bag test”. I’ve lived through those situations as well.
That’s why I used the word “tribal”. All races practice similar behavior. Still doesn’t make it right, regardless of who starts it.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
yeah, think the slower parts were crucial to showing the potential for psychosis from the Governor. I don’t think they were wasted scenes at all.
besides, Merle is back in those slower scenes.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
gotta go with the mustang too for the same reason, though ive always loved the korean-war era sabre too.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Or listen to it
October 29th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
I’m not a fan of Dan LeBatard, but he has a saying that’s very true. We want our sports boss to be like the real life boss we all hate to work for. I wonder how many Giants fan would love it if Coughlin was their direct manager at Deloitte?
And Rivers has always given off a douchebag vibe. He had a feud with Jay Cutler at one point? Which makes perfect sense.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
I dont think there’s any way BOB leaves Penn State any time soon. Guy seems really committed.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
I think that study was just saying everyone hates Kevin Garnett regardless of race
October 29th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
the officiating was horrible the entire evening…it just hurt PSU that OSU got favorable calls/non-calls on critical plays.
even if officiating was decent, OSU won on both lines.
that said, PSU under BOB is a damn fine football team. once they get a real, live QB and get thru these sanctiions, provided he’s not in the NFL, they’re DANGEROUS. that guy can coach.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
College coaches always seem committed until they leave…Nick Saban knows
October 29th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
That was absolutely a miss and probably the worst one of the night. So were the other 15 holding calls, both ways, that the officials didn’t call. Big 10 officials don’t call holding. They haven’t in years and aren’t going to start now.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
sigh…there’s always a way. and if he left, as justifiable in a professional sense as it would be, he’d be one of the more hated people in the state. he doesn’t have many ties to the university, is damn fine coach and is going to be in demand from anyone with an opening with equal to greater resources…id be SHOCKED, but it’s not an impossibility.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
The parking lot next to me complex is about 6 feet under water and the Hudson river looks like the ocean during the 50 year storm at the end of Point Break. This could be a bad couple of days here, I was not expecting this already…
October 29th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
This here. I’m just afraid that it is going to be nearly impossible to get kids in for the next few years and BOB will head for professional lands. The guys that they have coached up this year are mostly upper classmen who won’t be there in a year or two.
It’s going to get much much worse before it gets better at PSU. But, BOB has done a fantastic job delaying those issues for at least another year.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
Are you in NYC?
October 29th, 2012 at 9:37 AM

Sabres were pretty neat.
That part of the jet age was interesting, (IMHO) since engineers were falling in love with more power/more thrust per engine, but fighter maneuverability didn’t always keep pace.

They call it on punting formations on the defense when the center dives at your feet to chop block you.
/still absolutely pissed about that call more than any other

Good link on the drum major. I read some and will re-read later. Hits on some of the factors of poverty that I think are often ignored.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
What will it take for Norv to get the axe?
He’s finished.
Haha! Definitely not. One element I do like is how Michonne doesn’t trust anyone in their camp, wants to leave, yet can’t leave without Andrea. Also, they probably can’t leave, the Governor says they can but he will probably pull an Army thing on them.
yeah, think the slower parts were crucial to showing the potential for psychosis from the Governor. I don’t think they were wasted scenes at all.
besides, Merle is back in those slower scenes.
It was refreshing to have new characters. The chick that plays Michonne can’t act, however. And I bet The Governor likes to diddle zombie kids. That last scene was unnerving.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Looking forward to possibly losing power sometime in the next two days.

you know what part of the jet age wasn’t interesting? the vietnam era f4 phantom.
/was listening to a guy writing a book on generals talking about george marshall and military leadership say that in vietnam, they’d rotate officers every 6 mos and lack of quality leadership was a critical error

Edgewater, NJ. Right on the water. Was not here for Irene last year so not sure what to expect but it looks like it is going to get interesting,
October 29th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
that was a fairly horrendous call. also thought bradley roby (osu CB #1) had a lot of pass defenses that were REALLY close to being PI. i kept waiting for flags to come in but they never did.
wonder if college CB’s are coached to not look back at the ball and if that really hurts them making the transition to the NFL.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Haha, saw that one. Epic bullshit.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Can’t block below the waist on change of possession (punt, kick, int or fumble). Snapper was going down because he was off balance. PSU guy ddin’t need to help him. Hands on the back of the shoulder pads gets called.

i dont like being the beneficiary of calls that go by the letter of the law but ignore the spirit of the law…that was a horseshit call.

It was refreshing to have new characters. The chick that plays Michonne can’t act, however. And I bet The Governor likes to diddle zombie kids. That last scene was unnerving.
by unnerving do you mean ham handed? Because his “acting” job was to look into his whiskey glass. And boy, oh boy did he look into that whiskey glass. Before he even sat down all the way, he was in full 1000-yard-into-whiskey-glass-stare.
Also, at some point, don’t you need more people, even if you’re sinister? Don’t you need manpower? And if you’re super bad baddies, why do you have guys in guayabera shirts wandering around your walled fortress?
Also, that black guy wants to mate with the black girl.

Yeah, I thought it was important how he gave the quick glance to his family portrait before going in there.

BOB likely leaves, hopefully its in 5 or 6 years and not 1 or 2. That said, happy valley is a nice place to raise a family, and unlike the NFL you actually get to see your family.

Fox was paying $23 million for the EPL rights. NBC has tripled that amount. I hope they can get the audience to transfer over from Fox Soccer Channel. Whatever issue one may have with their production value, FSC made a name for themselves as home of EPL. The soccer rights in America are all over the place. Given a choice, I think I’d rather stick ESPN. They draw in a lot of casual fans that might not otherwise watch soccer.

Oh, I agree and it’s not called 90/100 times, but you put hands on the back of shoulder pads on a special tems play, you risk a flag (especially when right in front of the umpire).

October 29th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Yeah, total bullshit call, but OSU would have won anyways if that call wasn’t made. They pretty much controlled the line of scrimmage the whole time. I didn’t think PSU was going to win to begin with, but damnit, I wanted Urban to pop a blood vessel if they lost.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Bill O’Brien has ultimate job security at Penn State. He had an extra 4 years kicked in to his current contract due to some stipulations from all the fall out.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Agreed. I would like ESPN to have its hands on at least some of the games like it does now.

Like I already know me TV will be on channel 4 all day and I am not even going to try and fight it.
October 29th, 2012 at 9:51 AM

I have never read the comics or looked ahead. I’m going to let this play out and either be pissed or entertained by it. Why Merle turns into a pussy in front of the Governor has to have some reasoning behind it. Right? Please tell me I’m right.
Because his “acting” job was to look into his whiskey glass
It is a time honored acting crutch.

One thing the head of NBC sports said in that article is that you’ll be able to watch every EPL game live in a NBC platform. So I’m guessing they’re going to set up some online site like ESPN3. Also 18-20 games will be on terrestrial NBC network. Which is awesome. Hopefully they market it well enough so casual fans can be drawn in.

Noah Spence would have had 3+ sacks if holding were called all night. Mauti looked to have contain on that play. Fragel started off clean but instead of riding him up field to take himself out of the play, he decided to take him down.
Also, the ND-Oklahoma game featured a holding call (correctly) that the referee didn’t signal. How they missed that, I don’t know.

I don’t see how anyone could make the argument to the contrary, honestly.

Will someone please refer me to the cereal of that guy that Mole is always holding up as the gold standard of breakfast? I know there was an article that came out a couple of months back that looked back at the 2008 and 2010 breakfasts and found that Quaker and Kellogs were the most accurate, but Mole seems to always tout this other brand. Some blogger I think who tends to find things trending more leftist than Raisin Bran or Count Chocula? Thanks in advance.

Saw Clapton at Nassau Col on Long Island in the late 80′s. Mark Knofler was his lead guitarist. Encore was Money For Nothin.

Does that mean I’m allowed to be critical of them again?
October 29th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Shouldn’t Clapton always be his own lead guitarist?

Saw Cray last summer as the headliner at an all-day blues fest in Dallas. He blew the roof off.
