Hurricane Sandy: Here’s a Closeup of the Crane Dangling on 57th Street
There are many fake Sandy pictures making the rounds. Here’s a real one. A friend of mine is riding out the storm in a hotel room on West 57th street. Here’s a closeup of the crane dangling from the top of the building from the hotel room window. That does not look safe.

Hard for me to tell exactly what’s going on in this photo. Is that from the winds? Winds already picking up that much in NYC?

There are many fake Sandy pictures making the rounds.
It amazes me how many people think that Statue of Liberty getting smacked by a wave is real.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:41 PM
Quick, someone photoshop Justin Verlander wearing the Panda shirt in front of the Empire State Building and see if we can get Lisk to post it
October 29th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
I’m no crane expert (obvi), but I would assume that roof-mounted structures like this have some sort of “retraction” function that allows them to pivot like this.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
all we need now are thousands of terrified japanese running everywhere and we’d have our found footage for cranezilla.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Wonder what kind of ratings this hurricane will generate.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Do they have marathons in Japan. They must be infuriated as American tourists yell Godzilla as runners fly past them.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
I’m not, thanks
October 29th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Yes they do
October 29th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see any dangling going on there.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
True story. I love attending plays. Musicals or otherwise. I’ve been to lot of local theater productions over the years.

Is The Producers your favorite?
/sorry, had to

In other photos not taken by twinkle-toes…you can see the top of the crane dangling from the top (not sure if by design).
In this photo, the crane is directly in line with the support.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
In other photos not taken by twinkle-toes…you can see the top of the crane dangling from the top (not sure if by design).
Ah ok. So you’re saying a better angle would show the dangle?
October 29th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
I see that crane is mounted at the base and braced approximately at its third points against the adjacent building. I see no dangling there.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:53 PM

October 29th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
The fake photos are a lot more interesting.
What an asshole.
Les Mis on Broadway was probably better than any movie I’ve ever seen in a theater.
October 29th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
You forgot the “not Coop’d”
October 29th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
I saw it in London, and my reaction was, “It would be a great play if they just dropped all the songs.”
October 29th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
when im president, musical theater will be banned and its participants liquidated. how dare you enable those cocksuckers. how dare you all…
October 29th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
Duffy- Get your boy to throw on a poncho and get down to the harbor. Lots of pics and videos for the new TBL storm reporter. Also, you can then claim it as truly exclusive and not ruined by “NBCSports” or “ESPN.” No gif required

“Hurricane Sandy” sounds like something starring Sandra Dee and James Darren.

October 29th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
I enjoy how Duffy assumes everyone know what he’s talking about here. like, “Oh yeah, THE crane dangling on 57th street.” you know, cause we’re all up to date on what’s going on in Manhattan.
for context, here’s a real story about it including an actual photo that shows the danglage: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/10/29/high-winds-collapse-crane-from-building-under-construction-in-midtown/
