I just don’t think famous people like Grace should be treated any differently than the rest of us…. and if any of the rest of us had a second DUI in 14 months, we’d be facing probably the same sort of consequences he’s facing now.

Four felonies is a lot. But that’s what GJ’s and DA’s do: they throw the book at you when it comes time to charge you, then plea it down to something more reasonable and appropriate. It’s just classic negotiating strategy.

I’m betting Grace pleads out to one felony, but then has to do a year in state prison. From the sound of it, it appears that by statute he must do some jail/prison time and they aren’t likely to plea all his felonies down to only misdemeanors. One or more felony pleas sounds a lot more reasonable, given what the GJ returned.

Personally, he needs to do some jail/prison time. Anyone who has two DUIs in life at all needs to spend some time in the slam for the second and all subsequent DUIs. If you don’t learn after your first one, then you are clearly a danger to the rest of us and deserve no more leniency.

I’m not a Cubs fan, I was just a Cubs sympathizer at the time (7 years old in ’89) and huge into baseball cards, so I thought Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith were going to be badass.

The second part of your comment does still apply to me though since I’m a Vikings fan.

Gotta tell ya, s1rweeze, how good it feels to be the fan of a perennial doormat like the SF Giants and then for them to win a World Series. After they won it all in 2010, I said that I wouldn’t care if they lost every game from then on, it wouldn’t matter because they won it all in my lifetime…. and I *still* believe that. That they are in another WS now, it’s nice but *nothing* will match the feeling of my historically bad team finally winning it for the first time in my life.

As a Cubs fan, though, you will never have that feeling because they are the Cubs. They’re never going to win it again, even the Gods all agree. Sorry.

Loved that late 80s Cubs team (I know, I know) with Grace, Sandberg, Jerome Walton, Dwight Smith, Mike Bielecki, etc. Hated seeing them get eviscerated by Will Clark and the Giants.

I dunno. They convened a grand jury for him and returned FOUR felonies on him. I seriously doubt they will allow him to plead all that down to a misdemeanor. If he’s convicted of a felony, then he has to do at least a year in state prison.

That’s pretty serious. Grace should be very worried about doing hard time in state prison, seems like doing 30 days in a local slam is simply out of the question for him. And it should be.

I’m not saying he doesnt have a serious drinking/following rules problem. He will plead to a DUI and do 30 days. Thats a lot for someone that hasnt been in jail before.

There’s more to it than just a second DUI. He was driving without an ignition lock being installed on his car as required by the court due to his first DUI, he had no valid license, and because of these two things, he almost certainly had no valid insurance during that second DUI.

All that behavior isn’t drunken behavior. That is contemptuous behavior towards the court and the rest of us that was made while sober.

As much as I loved Grace while he played and how much fun he was to watch do commentary on TV/radio, jails are made for people like him: unwilling to abide by rules set down by courts when given a second chance by them and being an obvious danger to the rest of us.

He should do some serious jail time. That’s exactly what would await the rest of us if we behave like he has.
