Jason, are you auditioning to direct the next “Faces of Death” video?

Here’s a better link for that “clothing drive story.” Directly from the source.

Coincidence or trend?

Raccoon stumbles into chimp territory at the zoo, gets tossed
nasty business. Chimps are stone cold killers. I’ll bet that bored to death bunch of chimps ended up tearing that thing to pieces. And I’m surprised the video isn’t here.

We’re getting that much closer to Jerry firing himself right? I’m beyond giddy for that press conference if that ever happens
October 22nd, 2012 at 8:34 AM
what gave it away?
October 22nd, 2012 at 8:34 AM
Jerry Jones won’t have to fire himself. he’s already phasing himself out, and letting assistant GM, and noted football/salary cap authority Stephen Jones take the reins on all but the most overtly ridiculous moves.
Dont worry about the nepotism cries, this is a real culture change.
they will, however, continue to run the same offense Ernie Zampezi installed 22 years ago, and won’t commit resources to special teams unless they are about to be free agents

Salt Lake Trib Endorses Obama
I’ve avoided politics for a little while but I guess TBL wanted to give me a lead in. Are the lefties still feeling good about this? At this point the only polls showing Obama leading are hopelessly sampling too many Dems. And when Romney wins by 2% or more the Electoral College won’t save Obama. Been saying for a while that Romney will win this. Just two weeks away.
October 22nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Shit, Texas gets ‘em.
October 22nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Good, fark the Cowboys. Get them off my Kansas airwaves every damn Sunday. Redskins/Giants game featuring RG3 and the defending Super Bowl champs in a division game that went down to the wire? New Orleans and Tampa Bay in a no-defense shootout? Arizona/Minn featuring two surprise teams looking to make the playoffs? Hell no, let’s throw the Cowboys on again because everybody jumped on that bandwagon 20 years ago, and obviously every football fan’s interest in a team is directly tied to their geographic position from said team.

Was going to respond seriously until I saw this.
Obama will win the electoral college, Romney the popular vote. Conservatives, unaware that our country is a disaster precisely because the same thing happened in 2000, will hire every lawyer in the country to challenge the result and scream that the electoral college should be abolished.
October 22nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM

that’s what im thinking…it was hard coming up with a good opponent for the chimp. big cats and bears are too large…everything else, the chimp would own. and a wolverine/honey badger would still come out on top.

ImJustSayin — Obama at 68 percent in the 538 forecast. Tonight’s debate is on foreign policy, something Romney has no experience or success with. Barring some massive gaffe by Obama nothing will change after this.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Obama will win the electoral college, Romney the popular vote.
I can’t tell you how comical I find this. Not too long ago you were arguing that Obama wins easily. Lefties has been backed up too a ledge and the only thing they are grasping at this point before falling is Electoral College. Alas that is slipping away also.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Sorry Urinal, couldnt hi-5 you this morning on the TXAM game. If I was to bet again, I would still take TXAM to beat LSU outright. You can’t turn the ball over 4 times against a top team and win that game. I still thought at half-time they were going to win this game.
I like what Sumlin is doing with that team, love the OFF and I think Johnny Football is the real deal for that program. IMO. They will be favored in everygame for the rest of the year, except the Bama game.

I think Nate Silver is the only stopping mass panic. Silver is a partisan hack at this point and this election will discredit him as such.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
Pretty certain the powers that be in both political parties would never scream that as it pretty much makes 3rd party candidates irrelevant.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
If it wasn’t for PA, motorists wouldn’t know what it’s like to drive on shitty roads and watch DOT workers stand around the orange barrels.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:05 AM
A lack of foreign policy experience didn’t stop Obama 4 years ago Queefer, so it won’t necessarily be a problem for Romney either. Not that it truly matters which of the two win.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Well, you’re easily amused and probably love Jeff Dunham. If “a big lead in the thing that decides the election” is grasping at straws, well, grasp away.
Spence, I watched Prometheus again the other day for the first time since seeing it in theaters and it went down a little better. Once the expectations are lowered it’s really a much better movie.

October 22nd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
two things need to be changed, but not necessarily abolished in our political system.
1. congressional redistricting – should always be skewed competitive by independant parties, will resolve term limits and prevent congresspeople from getting too far right or left.
2. electoral college – needs to be modified to prevent the president from being determined by one or two states.

It didn’t matter because neither candidate was an incumbent.
Obama: I’ve killed 50 terrorists including Bin Laden and straight killed Somali pirates.
Romney: I insulted London before the Olympics and used someone’s death to try and win an election.
Fox: Romney wins!
Seriously, I agree to a point but there’s a clear gulf between the two. Conservative are throwing everything at the wall to see if they can find something to win the election, and it appears as though they’ve settled on Libya, so expect Romney to hit that all night.

Not that it matters, because PA on ramps are approximately 7 inches long anyway, while its exit ramps contain immediate hairpin turns that require you to exit at 70 mph then slam on the breaks to avoid rolling your car into a dirt mound

I hate the fockin roads in this state. Since the Fedeal Govt. dumped all that money into fixing bridges, PA has been out fixing bridges left and right. Now some need it, but some were just constructed within the last 20yrs. In my opinion, those bridges should be ok, but the DOT is just spending the money for the hell of it. New Enterprise Stone & Lime has got a nice little thing going with the state of PA
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:13 AM
I’m no Obama fan, but you are hopelessly misinformed. Obama gained ground in just about tracking poll in all the battleground states this weekend. The idea that the electoral college is slipping away is hilarious, and wishful thinking on your part.
In any case, I will offer you a wager of $1,000. Put your money where your mouth is.

I love drone strikes. Keeps troops out of harm’s way, doesnt cost a ton of money, and they’re practically undetectable. Anything that kills terrorists without directly endangering our troops is a plus for me.
If he had an R next to his political affiliation with the same track record, conservatives will consider him the greatest foreign policy president of all time.

October 22nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
nothing will change after this.
This is the statement I love the most. What Queefer doesn’t want to deal with is the fact that Romney is already winning. Ohio is the great white whale at this point for Dems. Its the last breath. And CBS showed Obama ahead by 5 this morning in a D+9 poll. PPP showed Obama ahead by 1 in a D+7 poll. These are just not realistic. At all. Ohio will be D+3 at best which will equal a Romney win.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
I can tell you that this bothers people from military families. Congratulations Mr. President, you sat in a room of people telling you exactly what needs to be done, and you simply say “Yes”. That does not give you are or your PR handlers the right to trumpet it as some sort of magical personal achievement.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:18 AM
As long as it continues to be right, no.
The I-81 bridge in Harrisburg has been under construction/repair for over a year now. The on ramp near by house has the bridge guardrail on the right and concrete dividers on the left. So you’re essentially in a blind chute, going uphill, with about 10 feet of space in front to merge into a a four lane highway. Guess wrong and an 18-wheeler is taking you off the side of the bridge. And that’s best case scenario.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Rae Carruth is a piece of shit.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:18 AM
you know what’s a fun fact… Romney wouldn’t have prevented this either, the only thing we can guarantee in this world had Romney been president for the last 4 years is that Bin Laden would still be alive and Al Qaeda wouldn’t be decimated as it is now.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:18 AM

And to those that keep wanting to bet me. Keep your money. I don’t need it.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
I agree with you to an extent. Every president in history has received credit or blame for the success or failure of the military. The rules shouldn’t be different for Obama. That said, I don’t really see him ever take personal credit for military achievements.
As for “just saying yes,” Obama did a hell of a lot more than that during the bin Laden raid. He deserves a lot of credit for that mission, IMO.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
and that we’d be at war in Iran, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Shit, probably Mexico, too.

October 22nd, 2012 at 9:22 AM
have you ever given an order to send people on a mission that could get every single one of them killed? or made the decision that would end someone’s life?
don’t marginalize it like he’s “liking” facebook posts about the suggestions. is there some bragging about it? yeah, just as there was when saddam was captured. it goes both ways, no matter who was president would have been putting some pr behind the achievement while praising the special forces troops who did it, which is what was done time and time again by the president.

The Gallup Poll showing Romney winning by 7 points is accurate, right?
My feel is that Romney is ahead by 2 to 3 points right now. If he wins by 2 to 3 points Obama will not win Ohio. Gallup’s LV screen is probably a little too tight, but I expect it to tighten today. Last Sunday rolls off today and it seems to have been a huge Romney day in their poll.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Stigs, look at it the other way: if that Bin Laden raid goes south and he escapes because the chopper crashes, or SEALs get killed, or Bin Laden isn’t there, is Obama then within his rights to blame the military for the fuckup? Of course not. The president is the commander in chief. He shares in successes and failures.

That said, I don’t really see him ever take personal credit for military achievements.
really? you must be getting your news via carrier pigeon.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:25 AM
Nope. No special forces commander in history would allow any President any sort of command over his men on the ground, aside from the final “go/no-go” order. It just doesn’t work that way. I’m as happy as the next guy that bin Laden is dead, but don’t try to pretend that any President has anything to do with the planning or execution of a raid like that. It is insulting to any member of the military.

October 22nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
I have a dilemma on Thursday.
As you know, I’m a huge Tigers fan. I have the choice of watching Game 2 on TV or going to see Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. World Series is a big fucking deal, but I’ve never seen Manson or Zombie and I really like Manson’s music.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
how much of the polling is impacted by the Do Not Call list. I’m sure if that qualifies to not call people on that list it would also impact who gets sampled.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Bullshit on a number of levels. Saying all he said was yes ignoring all of the implications in saying so is intellectually lazy and dishonest. Also, living in VA surrounded by the number of military families, as well as the number of installations within an hours drive, I haven’t encountered this consensus irritation you speak of.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:30 AM
KC: if you kill someone with a head shot, or cut off their head or whatever, they don’t get reanimated. I am loving Rick more and more every week for his decision making.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Feel free to read “Manhunt” by Peter Bergen, and then get back to me. Any president — Bush, Obama, Reagan, Clinton — would rightfully deserve a ton of credit for their involvement in that mission. Well, except Taft. Fuck Taft.
Again, if what you’re saying is true, when the military fucks up its not the president’s fault then, right? That’s 100 percent on the military?
Feel free to post a link where Obama takes sole credit for killing bin Laden.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Finally just saw the episode where they try to take out Abu Nasir on the ground at that meeting and Brody texts him and he gets away. I call bullshit. Can’t believe someone within that room would be allowed to use an electronic device during this. Maybe I’m wrong, but I knew when they told him what they were doing his gonna get a message out to him.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Political calls are exempted from the registry, zero impact.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
sounds like you’re going to keep watching, though.
Yeah, that’s the thing. I can’t remember if I missed something or not. I will admit, more stuff happens this season. Whether or not it makes sense is something I need to talk to myself about.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
What facts is your “feel” based on? What is your conclusion that Obama will not win Ohio, a state he currently has a 70-30 chance of winning by 538′s incredibly accurate models?
You do realize 538 missed the 2010 mid-terms by 15% right? He made his reputation in 2008 on an election that wasn’t hard to figure out. As I said earlier Silver is the only thing keeping the left from mass panic at this point. Gallup shows Romney +7, Politico shows Romney +2, NBC shows tied but the internals look terrible for Obama. 2 to 3 points.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:32 AM
haven’t had any coffee yet and it’s the first day of healthy eating habits. I’m surly today.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
KC: if you kill someone with a head shot, or cut off their head or whatever, they don’t get reanimated. I am loving Rick more and more every week for his decision making. CJ
Good reasoning. Thanks.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
CJ – Nothing you say about TWD will change KC’s mind about it. He will run to the Internet every Monday morning and complain about hating it, threaten to quit watching for the umpteenth time, but return next Sunday at 9 p.m.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Queefer – how much stock are you putting in Nate Silver’s projections? I see you mention him quite often, and it seems that you have complete faith in him. This is meant as an honest question. I personally don’t have an opinion about the guy.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:33 AM
HA! I’m two behind on Boardwalk. Wifey walked downstairs yesterday while Gyp was getting choked out, looked right at me, then went upstairs. So that was the end of that until tonight probably.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:34 AM
You a member of a military family? If not, then you don’t know what we talk about. I’m part of a very large family that has served for generations. It doesn’t make us special, but I can tell you that the conversations we have in private are much different than the ones we have with the rest of you. Just how we were raised. Also how the majority of other families in the same or similar situations act.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
I think his models are the most accurate out there. His sole job is to be right, and he spends a lot of time refining and tweaking the model to remove bias and worthless data. He got 49 out of 50 states right in 2008 and I see no reason not to trust his numbers.
Anyone interested in his thinking and methodology should check out Signal and the Noise. It’s really an awesome look at how bad most people are with predictions, why we get them wrong, and how they can get better.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
GOD YOU’RE SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER THAN US HOW DO YOU DO IT
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
yeah, we’re seeing a pretty firm change in Rick from the guy who wanted to spare the life of the guy from Rescue Me that was on the show to the guy who slams machetes into peoples heads and lets people get eaten by zombies
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:37 AM
What is it, 3 million or so in armed forces? Not to mention millions of others that are retired. Everyone feels the same way?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:37 AM
You realize he doesn’t conduct his own polling, right? Do you know anything about his site, his methodology, his models, or his track record? Or, because his blog was purchased by the Times, is he just a partisan hack trying to win the election for Obama?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I am loving Rick more and more every week for his decision making.
So surprised he did that. Knew Rico wasn’t making it out of that episode
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
How many of you will just go away when the election is over? It’d be good for all parties (no pun) involved.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
I didn’t watch last night’s episode but the season premiere was light years better than anything S2 shitted out. Pragmatic Rick is a character that’s fully believable within the world they’ve created. After a long enough time, I’d imagine most people in that world would adopt that mentality, frankly.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
CJ – Nothing you say about TWD will change KC’s mind about it. He will run to the Internet every Monday morning and complain about hating it, threaten to quit watching for the umpteenth time, but return next Sunday at 9 p.m. Ndub
See, last season we all bitched about it together here. It was like a bonding time Now it seems like just CJ and I are watching it and everyone else is arguing politics. I wasn’t going to mention it this morning, but holy shit I had no clue we had so many political experts here.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I see AMC and Dish are pals again.
AMC’s smear campaign was fantastic.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:41 AM
I’m just glad Dale isn’t around to play the wet blanket of the group. His annoying pulpit speeches completely devoid of reality was starting to get on my nerve. Now they recognize a threat and just take care of it. No sitting around and turning it into a supreme court case.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:42 AM
I’m sure the book is a good read, but that doesn’t mean that any President has anything more than the final “go/no-go” decision in special forces raid. Of course he would be kept apprised of the work being done, but no matter how much he talked about it in meetings, his input would be minimal at best. He simply doesn’t have the training or skill-set to be important.
As far as mistakes being on the military, sure. As long as the President or Congress aren’t grossly fucking up the situation by keeping needed materials out of the hands of the military. Or if they are playing politics and won’t let the military do their job.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:42 AM
i’ll gladly talk about TWD over politics, thought we had a moratorium on tv show discussions for a couple days for the people afraid of spoilers?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Last season was full of highs and lows, mostly the latter. I’m watching this year, enjoying it much more. As I said, this season’s expectations should be higher considering the creative and behind-the-scenes stuff is clearer, along with a leaner core cast.
Spot on about politics. So tired of it. I don’t even enjoy making this a daily stop on some days.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Id pay you to not go to the concert
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Pumped for MNF. Bear down!
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
No, absolutely not. If you didn’t watch it, it’s YOUR responsibility to avoid spoilers. I’m not going to stop talking about a show just because YOU haven’t watched it yet. Fuck whatever rule you guys came up with.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:45 AM
As I said, we aren’t special, but I will go out on the world’s largest limb and say we’re better than you.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:45 AM
You’re in for some more choking out.
GOD KELLY MACDONALD WHY DO YOU SUCK SO MUCH
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Rob Zombie puts on a really awesome show, and considering the dude is near 50 and more interested in movies nowdays, he may not have many tours left. Can’t speak for Manson though other than he’s a self-parody
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I know Natalie Portman has breastfeeding boobs right now, but holy shit. She’s beautiful.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Got tired of seeing these little digs every time I was watching AMC. I have Atlanticbb cable, so I could have cared less.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I come from a heavily military family, I don’t let it define me.
As soon as Marines in NC stop murdering their wives for sport I’ll have a more favorable opinion of the military “family” clique.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Again, read the book before holding that stance. He wasn’t putting on eye black and HALO jumping into the Persian Gulf, but he was far more involved in the planning than simply saying, “Go.”
Everyone is tired of something. There’s a presidential election in a month. What do you think people are going to discuss sometimes? I don’t care for ratings posts, or hockey/golf talk, or media relationships, or Tebow. So I simply ignore that post and move on to the next one.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
hell yeah.
really glad they didn’t show the zombie c-section in detail.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
NDub: you gotta watch the WS – there will be other Manson/Zombie shows, but you never know if/when your team will make it back to the WS.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Never watched one of his movies. Are they any good? Or does Hollywood not have the heart to tell him that he is a sucky director?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
So, we are cool with Obama taking credit for OBL, but he should get NO BLAME for having a drone over the consulate, watching the gates be breached, and doing NOTHING. Even after our ambassador BEGGED for support? OK, got it.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Good to hear about Rob Zombie, and I’ve had the same thought regarding his age and evolving interests. I’ve also heard Manson puts on a great show.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
I would say “Then fucking take it to Gawker or HP” but TBL encourages it so oh well.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Eh, if its a dedicated thread (like the GoT one) and you go in then that’s on you. But you shouldn’t have to avoid a roundup post because people are talking about a show that aired on a fall Sunday. Homeland, Boarwalk, Treme, Walking Dead, SNF — you just can’t watch them all before Monday morning, so waiting a day is fair game, IMO.
I dont care either way. But if someone has a problem with spoilers, I can accept that.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Yes, who can forget all the vitriol the military got when it totally screwed the pooch on the Iran Hostage Rescue Mission.
OTOH, President Carter was re-elected handily.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
I was distracted during that scene and didn’t go back to watch it carefully. I thought I saw a camera shot of her cutting that zombie from a faraway bush. What is that all about?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:49 AM
He sure does!
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
All of Gyp’s people get murdered in the next episode while he’s getting choked out, Bugsy Siegel kills them all.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
They’re dark and gory. The direction and cinematography for the most part is good. The script is meh, the dialogue is stilted, and the acting almost sucks.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Yeah, I mean, two out of five days there’s a political story in the headline of the roundup. Those aren’t accidental. I try to limit political talk to the roundup, FWIW.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
i’ll gladly talk about TWD over politics, thought we had a moratorium on tv show discussions for a couple days for the people afraid of spoilers?
No, absolutely not. If you didn’t watch it, it’s YOUR responsibility to avoid spoilers. I’m not going to stop talking about a show just because YOU haven’t watched it yet. Fuck whatever rule you guys came up with.
I agree with this. It is best discussing the next morning. Waiting a couple days and it isn’t as fresh.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Once again, bullshit. You’re not part of a secret society. Now if you’re talking about families holding the secrets of members witnessing the atrocities of war, that’s one thing, and I understand that. But this monolith you’re trying to imply is bullshit. Obama made the decision to go, just as Truman made the decision to drop the bomb. History gives Truman the credit to do so even if he wasn’t the person flying the fucking plane, and I guess even most military families recognize that.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
That’s much too sensible. Why not whine and complain?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Finkle is Einhorn?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
Christopher Nolan?
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
That was the POV of someone who’s spying on her. It’s to show there is someone very curious about that prison and who’s inside. Might be one of the Governor’s people.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
my guess is somebody from woodbury stumbled upon the prison, too. they are moving pretty quick in the storyline so i’m expecting to see the two sides meet by the mid season break.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Ha!
Come on now… the acting in Nolan movies is great.

Amen. The zombie c-section deal had me looking away. I thought the camrea behind the bush was the hooded girl but previews for next week make it seem like its not. Very intriguing stuff to come I think.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Inception.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Round-up to me is “talk about anything you want” post. I understand entertainment is 10/30th of this site, but it’s not like this is a dedicated entertainment site like av club or hitfix. I’ll be more than fine with putting spoiler alert on any post talking about a recent episode, but for the life of me I can’t figure out the self involvement that goes into getting mad at someone else because they dared to talk about a show that you haven’t finished watching.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Acting, sure. Actressing? Meh. Cotillard was money in Inception, though.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Finished it. It was pretty good.
MikeNYC tweeted out a link last week saying that Silver’s success was due in part to his having access to Obama’s internal polling data. I believe it also said that he no longer has this info, so his projections this year may not be as accurate. No idea how true this is, but it was interesting to me.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Haha. My husband was covering his eyes. So I tells him, if I end up having to get a C-section, you are going to be reminded of this crusty zombie lady!

I thought I saw a camera shot of her cutting that zombie from a faraway bush. What is that all about?
It was The Others.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Yeah, I have no idea if that’s right or not, either. I’d be surprised if he had the internals — why would they supply him with those, and why would they stop this year? — but I suppose its possible.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
You couldn’t make a more mis-leading statement if you tried.
2010 predictions:
Senate +7R. Actual result +6R
House +55R. Actual result +63R
Governorships. He was 36 of 37. He missed Illinois, which went D, instead of his R prediction.
So, let’s see…..he only missed two state-wide races. And both of those were incorrect REPUBLICAN predictions.
As for the House, +55 was within the confidence level. Predicting House races involves far, far less data than state-wide races. I’d say he did pretty well.
He got every Senate race correct in 2008, and only missed IND in the prez race.
He’s missed on 3 state-wide races in 2 major cycles. If you are challenging his accuracy, you are revealing yourself to be a mega-fool.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Not that he didn’t deserve it but… the owner is kowtowing to Cam Newton? Okay then.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
I wouldn’t listen to anything that guy says.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
I love getting a Romney ad before a Marilyn Manson video. Also, I’ve decided that the main reason I’m not voting for Romney is that his voice is fucking annoying as shit.

I thought the play-calling sucked, personally. Kingsbury kept calling the game right into the hands of the defense instead of making a couple of changes to, oh, I dunno, a fucking screen or quick slant to get them out of 3rd/long every single possession.
October 22nd, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Its not like people are complaining that someone ruined the end of Usual Suspects for them. These shows were on not 12 hours ago. Many air during the same time slot. Football is on. Its understandable that not everyone is able to catch up on four shows on a Sunday night.
Again, I’m Ok with the talk. But I’d certainly respect someone’s wishes not to discuss it if it really bothered them.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
It is very simple. Public face vs private face. It has nothing to do with a “secret society”, and everything to do with what we choose to speak about with different groups of people. Every familial group does it. In my family, and the families like ours that is how you are expected to act. I’m not saying it is the best policy, but it is the policy we act under.
Truman gets the credit for deciding to use the force, but not for the planning of the attack. The way the media tried to spin bin Laden’s death is different. Of course Obama had to allow it to happen, but that is worlds apart from actually planning it. That is the distinction I wish was made more clear.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Nate? Is that you? Sorry, but at this point based on trajectory of race anyone saying Obama has a 70% chance of winning is driving a narrative. At 2008 turnout levels this race would be very close. But 2008 turnout isn’t happening.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. I’ve had things spoiled for me here, but I’ve never fired off a “ZOMG!!! STOPTALKINGABOUTITYOUGUYZZZZ!!!” comment. I can’t say the same for others here. Love Raccoons, punted one once, it did not give a fuck. Other time I was passed out the couch and heard eating, woke up turned on the light and there was 3 raccoons eating in my kitchen (must have climbed 3 stories up to the patio and pushed the door open). I tried making myself look big a but they just gave me a look like ‘shuddup buddy’ and sauntered off. Often stumbling home drunk I will come across a family of raccoons crossing the street and I always give a formal bow. Toronto apparently has the most in the world and they are awesome.

As I have said before I look forward to two things the most the day after the election. First, the fact that Romney has won and I can come here and look for Queefer’s comments and they will be non-existant as after the first debate. Second, the Nate Silver myth will have been dispelled.

October 22nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
My knowledge of Nate Silver comes exclusively from this website. But it seems like it’d be career suicide for him to predict Obama win with 70% certainty and not have it come true. What benefit does he get by saying Obama is going to win even if he knows it’s not true?
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
my old dog, a giant airedale, once broke thru our screen door to chase a racoon at 6am. fortunately, i caught her leash before she could sprint after it, but despite a snarling, obviously aggressive 90-pound dog on it’s shit like the waffen SS during jewbilee, the racoon reacted like someone asked them to stop smoking around their children, and simply waddled away.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:10 AM

October 22nd, 2012 at 10:10 AM
I HOPE you’re right about all this, except for the disappearance of Queefer. Although he’s severely mixed up in his political views, he’s an ok guy.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:11 AM
i don’t know what media you listen to that had obama hunched over a 3d model of the compound, moving figures around, simulating and planning the attack, but he had several options to choose from, was the only one who could give the order.
made his choice, gave the go ahead and the mission was accomplished. that’s not marginalizing the work the special forces did in planning the several options available.
if people really thing obama and his staff were trying to take credit for planning the raid, you must have some serious issues at heart that would cause you to interpret the information in that manner outside the facts that are readily available at your local library internet kiosk.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Just so we’re all clear:
The day after the election is going to be HILARIOUS.

October 22nd, 2012 at 10:15 AM
here’s my problem with this line of thinking…bush’s admin had a hand in fucking up the planning from 2003-2008 in afghanistan and iraq AND didn’t let the ninjas do their shit the way obama has.
gotta give credit to rummy giving JSOC the ability to become the self-sustaining/supporting unit it is today, but at the same time, he didnt let them off their leash.
it’s all relative…obama shouldnt be given credit for pulling the trigger, but he should be given credit for having the stones to deal with a situation where shit went bad.

Girlfriend is a bartender (obviously) and has a resident raccoon she named “Poncho,” huge sluggish fucker, rather genial sort really. Apparently Toronto raccoons have crazy problems with heart disease and diabetes from eating human garbage.
CBC did a great documentary on Raccoons with David Suzuki (fairly hoser sentence).

jesus fucking christ no one said obama personally planned the fucking raid. He was given a variety of options and chose the most difficult one (the actual raid with seals on the ground). despite not the best intelligence and no one actually seeing OBL on the ground. He gets the credit because he chose the most difficult operation, which there was not overwhelming support for.
Now, of course the military gets all the credit for the planning and execution (nothing the president has ever taken credit for). but the guy had to pull the fucking trigger…which is more than anyone can say about bush in regards to bin ladin.

Huge letdown of an ending, was really expecting Margaret to die. Son of a bitch these plotlines with her are AWFUL.

In Ohio, it’s 4 minutes. If you need more internet time than that, you’re not doing it right.

soused…obligatory re: racoons.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
i don’t know what media you listen to that had obama hunched over a 3d model of the compound, moving figures around, simulating and planning the attack, but he had several options to choose from, was the only one who could give the order.
excellent visual. Needs more with Barry sporting a toothpick out his mouth, using some over-sized walkie talkie and pouding his fist on a table. “let me tell you folks, when you hear Comanche, you folks will know we got’em.”
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Long time ago, Daily Show had a segment skewering this guy. Local news investigative reporters are the best. They report on potholes like it’s the Watergate scandal.

I’ll trust the most accuract pollster out there before taking anything a commenter on this blog says seriously.
Nate Silver isn’t a pollster, he’s an analyst of polling data. He set up 538 as a side project, and was so good at it that NYT bought it. I’d trust his analysis.

if only Obama would have given more covert funding to that guy who just went to Afghanistan and tried to hunt caves on his own, America would be safer.

if it’s anything like 4 years ago, I expect a sprinkling of racism, combined with a couple of bannings, and some completely reasonable discussion.
and if we are all lucky, someone will bring some rice krispy treats.

Last time got drunk in a giant old theatre watching the election with a crowd of sensible 100% Obama supporters. People lost it when Obama said his daughters are getting a puppy. Probably going back there but with $275 on Obama will probably be drinking fancy (laphroaig/JWB which is kind of an asshole move to put in a flask).
Spencer my dog often tries to run at raccoons, sit this one out champ they would kill you in about 4 seconds.
Puppy almost caught a skunk, the contingency plan is for me to take the dog and live on the patio with unlimited whiskey until the smell goes away.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:26 AM
CBC did a great documentary on Raccoons with David Suzuki (fairly hoser sentence).
that was on PBS too, broadcast as a Nature broadcast. I was very much compelled by it.
Not so much by this comment thread.

my dog got into his second one about a month ago. fucking miserable. I tried the tomato juice bath the first time, with limited success. this last time I did the peroxide and baking soda, again with limited success. that smell just doesn’t go away, it’s awful.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Huh. Never heard that term before: “wasband.” Funny.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:35 AM
the bathing and special skunk soap stuff we bought made it a little better, but had to take her to a groomer’s to get shaved and bathed til it was all gone.

I have personally been skunked at least three times, but once blasted directly in the face. It is quite uncomfortable.
That dog is gonna stink forever. The de-skunking home remedy is Blue dish soap + baking soda + hydrogen peroxide. I didn’t dose the stuff, just put it in a bucket of hot water. Then scrub the ever loving fuck out of the dog until you can’t scrub it anymore, and the dog wishes it was dead. Then dry it just as hard.
Even with that though, if the dog gets wet, it will smell skunky for a while.

She absolutely sucks. That said, Maggie is based on the real Nucky’s second wife, whom he was married to until he died. So chances are, she isn’t going anywhere. Which is a damn shame. I mean, they could get rid of her, I certainly want them to but I don’t see it happening. The problem with that show, pretty much the only problem is that it is based, although loosely on things that actually happened so you do have some sense of who lives and who dies. That said, what I am curious about is if they build up a war between Gym and Rothstein ending in Rothstein getting capped much like he did in real life, though under different circumstances.
