Dwight Howard Lakers Debut: 19 Points, and Here’s Video of All of Them
Dwight Howard made his Lakers debut last night, and even though LA lost – 0-6 in the preseason! – Howard looked as if his back is at or near 100 percent. He caught an alley-oop from Pau Gasol early, then one from Kobe, and at the 3:53 mark, a gorgeous one from Steve Nash.
Countdown to the start of the NBA season: Eight days. We’ll start rolling out the previews, hopefully, beginning tomorrow.

Offensive goal-tending on the Nash oop? Very close from the behind the basket view.

Was worried with ‘Death Video Monday’ it would be the tape of Dwight Howard murping whitney houston.
October 22nd, 2012 at 10:51 AM
Nope… after pausing video just before it hits DH’s hands… I concede. Absolute perfect “Brees-like” pass from Nash.

The second unit the Lakers threw out last night of Duhon, Meeks, Ebanks, Jamison and Sacre was very D-League’ish. When your starters are 30+ you need better depth than that.

You’re insane. There will be at least one Gangnam NBA related video per day. The league’s players are so hip and in touch.
(Still haven’t watched anything Gangman, presuming it’s just a Vietnamese chick getting a train run)
October 22nd, 2012 at 11:27 AM
That is to say, at least one player a day will do the dance or whatever it is.

I forgot to add — she can still bring it for both teams.
/ Speaking of which, where’s that WNBA championship post everyone’s clamoring for?
October 22nd, 2012 at 11:29 AM
ran into an NHL fan at a party Saturday. Told him about the site. Him: “I bet you don’t post any hockey highlights, nobody cares about the sport.”
me: “Would the season have started if there was no lockout?”
Him: “Yeah, but like nobody even knows that. Nobody cares. It’s sad.”
He said he goes to about 15 Flyers games per year.

I’ve been paying attention to the AHL games during this lockout. A lot of the Sabres’ young players are back down with the Rochester club. Syracuse is a top the league with 9 points (4-0-1). Good hockey being played. sadly not in the NHL right now

October 22nd, 2012 at 11:38 AM
Eh, as a hockey fan, I don’t care if ESPN ever airs another hockey game. I’m kind of over it.
The league has it’s own channel and games are pretty accessible on TV (you know…once they have a CBA in place).

When I was growing up, people talked all the time about the “4 major sports”. Do they still use that terminology? Has soccer supplanted hockey in this country as the fourth sport?

Nope, Gangnam Style is now the fourth major sport, going by the number of TBL posts devoted to it.
October 22nd, 2012 at 11:50 AM
No. Hockey is still number 4. Soccer is the most mainstream of all the other sports outside the big 4.

an actual “debate” on ESPN First Take right now: Do you think it was ok for Joe Gibbs to speak to the Cowboys this past Saturday before the Panthers game?
Thankfully Eric Mangini has more common sense and intelligence than the two douchebags (Bayless/Smith) combined. Seriously, ESPN, you think this matters? Go to hell.
October 22nd, 2012 at 11:54 AM
Don’t care that he doesn’t care about hockey, just find it amusing that he’s using one clearly douchebag guy to extrapolate to attitudes about a sport he doesn’t even know exists.
October 22nd, 2012 at 11:54 AM
So ratings posts about baseball are bad, but blaming ESPN about hockey’s relative anonymity is good?

golf is one of the few things in this world where it doesn’t matter what you look like, how much money you make, where you came from, what you do for a living, where you went to school, how long you’ve played, etc…it’s one of the few truly fair and equal things i can think of.
it also rewards hard work and dedication and intelligent planning. “i mean, i could work my ass off and ship a hundred extra units for initech, and i won’t see another dime.” nobody can take away YOUR golf…and that’s why i love it so much. it’s truly YOURS.

People who blame ESPN for it are wrong. Playoff ratings on Versus/NBCS are right at where they were with ESPN ten years or so ago and that’s on a channel that people HILARIOUSLY point out they “can’t even find.”
The league is doing fine without ESPN and TBL.

Well aside from the fact that a regular season game still beat one of the biggest games in European soccer, okay.
The Manchester Derby last year (the defacto title decider, biggest game of the year) set the record for cable EPL broadcasts at a million viewers. I realize that’s a Monday game, but looking at that and the rebroadcast and live broadcasts on FOX, the huge games do about as well as meaningless regular season NHL games.
Hard to measure the ratings importance of a league without a postseason, though. But if we used the Champions League, then soccer is more popular than everything so…
