Clock Operator at the Jets/Patriots Game Sure Had a Quick (Shady?) Trigger on the Fumbled Kickoff
The Jets had just tied up the Patriots at 23 with a little over two minutes to play. The Jets kicked off, and Lex Hilliard – whom New York signed Oct. 2 – caused a fumble. Keep an eye on a) the recovery, b) the clock, c) the referee coming in waving to stop the clock. Watch it a couple times.
What is clear:
1) the Jets pounced on the fumble.
2) the clock stops very quickly – some might say, prematurely – at 2:01. Why is that relevant? The Patriots got an extra timeout with the 2-minute warning. If another second bleeds off that clock – even non-Jets fans will argue it should have – the Patriots don’t get that extra timeout, and don’t have enough time to go down the field to tie the game at the end of regulation.
The Patriots won in overtime, 29-26. [video via NJD]

Boy, that sure is one fast-thinking clock operator.

If you can’t trust hometown clock operators, who can you trust?

That’s not as bad as the Pats winning because the Brady Rule isn’t being enforced anymore…mind your knees, quarterbacks

Not sure if it’s been mentioned: RIP Chingachgook.

Approximately 95% of NFL fans don’t actually know what the
BradyCarson Palmer rule is. Just like the tuck rule. As it is, if you are blocked to the ground, you can legally go after the QB’s feet/legs.October 22nd, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Clock operator must have had money riding on the game.
October 22nd, 2012 at 1:38 PM
The Pats still had a timeout left when they got the ball back. Even if the two minute warning did happen they ahd 3 timeouts.

Clock operator was an atheist and immune to Areop Enap’s ministrations for Tebow.

I wouldn’t call Bill Barnwell one of those 95%, he seems to know the football…Aaron Schatz agreed and I trust his judgment as well (plus he’s a Pats fan so claims of bias don’t work here)

I’m just glad Tebow was in the video/post.

If only Cromartie had hung onto that INT, he’d have foiled the clock operator. FOILED, I say!
October 22nd, 2012 at 1:43 PM
He is history’s greatest monster.
Tebow was so distraught he drank eight fingers of chocolate milk while watching Touched By An Angel reruns all night.

I guess I’d have to watch the play again, I’d assume Cunningham was blocked to the ground. If he wasn’t, my bad.

If only Brandon Lloyd had been able to catch the ball, the clock operator wouldn’t have needed to enact his dastardly plan.

Watching that game yesterday I was shocked at how wide open Jets receivers were all game. Those DB’s either have to be the worst of all time or Belichick really has lost his fastball.

Here’s an idea. Play defense.
October 22nd, 2012 at 1:56 PM
Babar, not sure what you mean. It’s just a pet peeve of mine. Rule was created after the Kimo hit on Palmer. Clarification to the existing rule after the Brady hit. That is all. No big deal.

Also if they didn’t have the timeout, and didn’t have time to kill the clock on third down, that kick was good from 55 at least anyhow and they only got six yards or so on second down.

Patriots pass defense has been a joke for a long time now.
Patriots and Ravens have been trading on reputation for several years running at this point.
Got shit for saying the Pats weren’t good a few weeks ago. They’re not good.

Who do you think ends up challenging Houston in the playoffs? Do the Broncos have the best shot? That offense seems to get better the more they play together.

The Brady rule is a reinforced emphasis of an existing rule, like what happened with the illegal contact rules after the Pats DB’s Sandusky’d the Colts’ WR’s in the 2003 AFC title game. And now that Pats fans find themselves trying to educate fans that the rules weren’t bent just to appease their powerful owner or GM, the circle is complete.
October 22nd, 2012 at 2:09 PM
I’ve noticed that Pats fans are awfully sensitive/insecure about how other fans view their team.

CJ…coming back a little late…
Even though the rule started with Palmer…most people refer to it as the Brady rule when discussing it. It has become the accepted reference.
I didn’t know if all Pats fans were peeved/offended by this…or if it was just a personal dislike for the term.

I really don’t give a crap about the Brady rule. His knee was wrecked, that season was lost so it really doesn’t matter.
I think the Pats fans on this comments section are pretty calm and level-headed by most standards. I think most of us try to just clarify the attacks that most people throw at the team. Which is understandable, they are a very easy to hate team and fanbase.
