St. Louis Cardinals Are a Win Away From the World Series

All, Baseball, Oh Tim Ryan October 19th. 2012, 7:45pm

The St. Louis Cardinals are one win away from a 2006 rematch with the Detroit Tigers and a return to the World Series for the second consecutive year and third time in seven seasons. Remarkably, the Cards are doing it this time without aging, overpaid, overfed slugger, Albert Pujols. If I woke up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn’t be any more surprised than I am right now.

Making an attempt to save the day for the Giants will be, who else, Barry Zito. The last time old Barry took the mound, he last 2-2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and an obscene four walks. Sounds promising. Does it even matter that Lance Lynn is pitching for the Cardinals? It really makes no difference for this magical team. Everything just has a way or working itself out, especially with Carlos Beltran and his glowing postseason bat.

I’ll be pulling for the Cards to win tonight, and then beat Detroit, with one reason being to see Mark McGwire freak out during the champagne celebration. The dude has been awfully quiet since becoming the Cardinals hitting instructor and this season he’s been persitently trolled by his ex-Bash Brother, Jose Canseco. Something’s got to give. The only question remaining is, will Drew Storen be watching?

Got any more fish stories? I can’t decide what I’m going to do on one of my days off. Buddy of mine said him and a friend were catching some stripers and flounders at this one place I’d never been to before. He wanted to go back but doesn’t think anything big will start running till the water gets colder. But they did finally end up stocking trout, so I kinda want to do that, too. I’d hit them both up, but they’re kind of opposite ends of the state. Too much driving for one day.

The mornings and nights have been getting pretty chilly here, but during the day is usually still pretty nice. Let me know how you do with those steelhead. I wanted to try them out next time I went up to PA. I know there’s a river about an hour away from my brother’s that gets quite a few caught certain times of the year. I’ve never tried it, though.

That’s surprising to me it’s still that warm there, KC. I haven’t been to the mid west other than to drive through. I just never pictured it being as warm as you had said this summer. Didn’t you guys get about a month straight where it was over a 100?

At least you have water in your rivers. We are in 160 something make up a number days of drought. Most of the farm ponds are dead and will take years to replenish water and fish and well, I haven’t mowed my yard much this year.

Yeah, it was about June through August over 95 most days. Something like 15-20 days over 100. Hottest summer since ’53. That sucked, but the no rain thing sucked more. No relief.
