Yankees vs. Tigers, Game 4: End of the Road for A-Rod in New York?
Sabathia vs. Scherzer. Miami-bound (?) Alex Rodriguez, not surprisingly, has been left out of the New York lineup.
As Bill Simmons noted, the Red Sox once trailed the Yankees 3-0, then Game 4 was rained out, then Boston rallied to win the series. I’d like to remind you that the Tigers have the best pitching staff in the AL, the Yankees haven’t hit in the postseason and they don’t have Derek Jeter, either.
With the Cardinals leading the Giants 2-1, we could be headed toward a rematch of the 2006 World Series, won by St. Louis, 4-1.
For the eight seven of you who immediately think World Series and then think ratings, the 2006 ratings ranged from an 8.0-11.6 (12-18 million viewers), which surpassed ratings for the first five games of the 2011 World Series (St. Louis vs. Texas, 6.6-10.0; 11-16.6 million viewers).
Game 7 last year was a major shot in the arm for the series, generating a 14.7 rating and 25.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game since 2004, when the Red Sox faced the … you guessed it, Cardinals.
Wow, it just dawned upon me – if the Cardinals make the World Series, that would be four trips in nine years. Why isn’t anyone talking about this dynasty?

because St. Louis is west of the Mississippi, therefor it doesn’t really exist?

Cut off the 2004 one, getting rid of the Boston sweep and shortening it to three World Series appearances (and possibly titles) in six years is a lot more impressive.

How many players from the 2004 team are still there?
2006?
Exactly.

I believe that since 2000 they have been in more than half of the NCLSs (7 of 13).

Sidney Ponson wasn’t going to stick around forever.
the ones that I can think of from ’06 are Carp, Wainwright, Yadi and Skip Shumaker.

Eric Chavez hasn’t gotten on base since October 1st…I think Girardi’s just tired of watching baseball games

Exactly. Assclowns like Ian O’Connor, Mike Lupica, and everyone on WFAN are actually affecting the lineup. Really proud week for the greatest organization in sports.

Good riddance.
Also, this is increases the odds of seeing Kate Upton more.

Because 2 world series wins in 9 years isn’t a dynasty.

So Braves were not a dynasty, I can live with that.
/1 World Series win in 20 years

TBL: Hi, Alex, this is Jason McIntyre. Of Big Lead/USA Today Sports? I’d like to ask about your final –
AROD: How’d you get this number?
TBL: Uh, got it off a baseball these two ladies gave me at a Gossip Girl viewing party.
AROD: Damn! Sorry I missed that.
TBL: Anyway, I was wondering –
AROD: Look, I gotta get packed up for the move to Miami, and I’m looking to get rid of some once-worn muscle shirts. You can wear ‘em under a sports coat. What size you wear? Smedium?
TBL: *click*

Pretty sure he’s the last player who will have have two separate teams give him a 10 year contract at $25 million + per year. Insane.

Assuming Detroit holds on to the 8-1 lead and wins Game 4, they will have swept the ALCS in each instance they have advanced to the World Series since divisional play started in 1969.

The riots after the 1984 world series and the 89 nba finals are the gold standard of post title riots. 2000 Lakers riot gets honorable mention due to the collective effort of about 40 fans to flip that one limo over together.
