Okay this was more to my point. The maturation and hopefully – increased reliability of the former group you listed, is so damn vital to the team. I know some have been tough on the USMNT even being in the qualifying position they were last night, I think they have ignored how much experience he gained in that round from his developmental players. And it’s better to start that development in the last stage as he did. Some people just want to run the 2010 out there in Brazil.

I dont know ANYONE that wants the 2010 squad run out there. The defense will most likely (hopefully) only have one holdover in Steve Cherundolo. A back 4 of Fabian Johnson, Geoff Cameron, Player X and Steve Cherundolo would be one of, if not the best back 4 the US will have ever played with, and one that will be able to get forward, and defend with bite, provided they have a Danny Williams (whom i personally love) or J Jones in front of the back 4

While I don’t watch a fraction of the international soccer as others here I do make an effort to watch the USMNT games. It seems Jurgen prefers defensemen who will not get beat man-to-man. For the bigger games, a defensemen’s distribution and offensive skills are not as important as not getting torched out of place defensively.

Well, with a full choice of US players, Klinsmann actually opts for offensive minded fullbakcs in Timmy chandler, cherundolol fabian johnson, and even Fabian Castillo at times. He’s a big believer in the outside backs getting forward and pressing the defense.

Now, against teams where we’re outclassed we have always tended to use more bite in our D, focusing on blocking shots, disrupting plays etc, but thats a product of not being able to keep possession more than anything else

I can’t speak to how other nations or the majority premier teams in the world decide their defensemenBut to me that seems how Jurgen decides who to play defense in some of these games. Obviously given our lack of depth in the back, there is likely to be somebody suspect out there most times.

I just find the anger toward Rossi to be ridiculous. The anger should be at our inept soccer federation in that situation.

Knee injury aside, he still has a much better chance of achieving real success at the national team level with the choice he made. He made the right choice, an unpopular choice, and I don’t think I need any other reasons to hate a guido from Jersey that has played for United.

The USSF couldn’t have done a thing to change his mind, even if they tried to cap him at 12 years old. Dude was gonna play for Italia regardless if given the chance. IT was never going to happen for the US.

It wasn’t even until after United had bought Rossi (five goddamn years after he left America) that we registered an interest with him. Given his family, he probably would still have chosen Italy given the chance, but that was one colossal botched scouting job by us. Parma had him from age twelve when he was playing in New Jersey. It took us five more years to notice.

ANd one small point: Parma saw him IN ITALY. He went over every summer and played youth set ups. So, it’s not like Parma came to NJ, scouted a u-13 game and scoooped him up. His dad was essentially showing him off for clubs in Italy.

Who did Tim Ream piss off that he can’t get play anymore? Just because Bolton was relegated? I don’t see the Championship so I have no idea if he is pants or not.

He started the first couple games, then got torched, lost his spot, and hasn’t been able ot regain it. With a new coach at Bolton, he’ll hopefully have a clean slate now.
