The Yankees face elimination in Detroit this evening thanks to a criminally stagnant offense, one that’s routinely waited until the ninth inning to show signs of life. In some cases it’s saved New York, but on Tuesday night in Game 3, it was too late.

Sure, Raul Ibanez came up to the plate with two on and two out and the Yankees down by a run, but anyone who expected him to come through again was also probably under the belief that this series isn’t over. That’s a cute thought, but this series has expired. If not tonight, then tomorrow afternoon for an all too appropriate fisting.

Tonight’s Game 4 is all about pride. No team ever wants to get swept, though the only way that’s not happening is if New York gets at least seven innings of one-run ball from CC Sabathia. And even then, that still might not be enough.

Speaking of the big fella, feast your eyes on CC’s 1999 Topps rookie card. Yes, that’s a jawline. And now? Not.
