Aaron Rodgers Just Turned In the Greatest Six Touchdown Performance Ever
Unbelievable. Houston’s defense had given up 6 passing touchdowns all season in starting 5-0. The game was on the road, against one of the best defenses in the league coming in. Aaron Rodgers was on fire all night, discount double checking the Texans to the tune of six touchdown passes. These throws were sick. Not a product of completely blown coverages but often pinpoint placement over defenders.
How impressive is it? Well, I went through the list of the six touchdown performances since 1960. It should come as no surprise that most of those performances came against less than stellar defenses. In fact, only one performance came against a team ranked better than 15th in Net Yards per Pass Attempt for the season (or in the upper half of its respective league pre-merger). That would be Matt Flynn’s six touchdown shocker playing in place of Rodgers last year against Detroit.
This Houston defense has been better than that Detroit defense, plus it came at home in the last game of the year. I’m assuming that Houston will finish in the top 10 in pass defense this year. Probably the best six touchdown performance ever, once we adjust for the defense that it came against. [Note: During the regular season. Steve Young's six touchdown game in the Super Bowl in January of 1995 remains the current gold standard based on the moment when it occurred]

Lisk should work for ESPN.
Texans have played the Dolphins, Jaguars, Broncos, Titans, and Jets before tonite. Offensive juggernauts there. With Cushing gone that is a very average defense.

While I agree that, other than Denver, not an impressive set of offensives, they have still shut down those teams. We saw Tannehill light up Arizona, Sanchez light up Bills and do just fine against Colts, Gabbert look like a real quarterback against Minnesota, etc.
I’ve watched lots of games. Not ready to call Texans average just yet.

When did Seattle’s backup get back to the Packers?

Lisk should work for whomever he chooses. Should be making 6 figs plus. He’s that good. So much better than a lot of the rubes making big bucks on the networks. Supremely talented, creative and innovative. But, he needs to update the TBL CFB standings dammit.

I think it should be noted that Steve Young threw 6 tds against a top 10 defense (Chargers in ’94) in the SUPERBOWL!

Oh I admit Lisks pieces are always well researched and must reads.

Steve Young in ’94 vs. the Chargers in the Super Bowl can’t be touched.

Yeah and Calvin Johnson deserves to be playing for a real team, but he chose to sign that contract.

Yeah, Steve will bitch & moan and let you know great that performance really was. You like me, you really like me!

Yes, should probably add the regular season caveat.

Another reason why Lisk is better than most “analysts” and talking heads: willing to admit he should add caveat to things.

What was most impressive about Rodgers and the Pack last night (and I’m a Texans fan) was that outside of the one long TD to Crabtree, the Texans weren’t in bad positions. This wasn’t Rodgers throwing to guys running free. They were perfectly thrown balls to guys who, often, were making very good catches.
