Yankees Wouldn’t Lose Game 5 at Home For the Second Year in a Row, Right?
Last year in this spot, the Yankees bats went silent, and they lost to Detroit in Yankee Stadium, 3-2.
Ivan Nova gave up two runs in the first inning of Game 5 and everyone kept waiting for the Yankees to overcome the early deficit, but it never happened.
The same couldn’t happen tonight, could it? The Yankees have CC Sabathia on the mound! (Worth noting: Sabathia pitched in relief last year in Game 5, and was lousy in 1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, two walks, and one run.)
The Orioles, who have basically become an afterthought in this series because it’s all been about the struggles of A-Rod and Granderson, and Jeter’s ankle and Raul’s heroics, are pitching someone named Jason Hammel.
Oh, and Alex Rodriguez was benched.

October 12th, 2012 at 5:11 PM
Please don’t shit the bed CC
October 12th, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Mad me sick hearing David Wells put CC and Verlander in the same sentence. Oh CC is so great in the ALDS! We’ll he sucks cock in the ALCS.
/Never forget
October 12th, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Nice 1-2-3 top of the first
Now score 5 in the bottom half and cruise the rest of the way.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:14 PM
No back link on that last sentence, tbl?
You’re slipping
October 12th, 2012 at 5:15 PM
I have a terrible feeling about this game. NO ONE is hitting for the Yanks.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:16 PM
Captions had informed me that the Orioles season ended yesterday? Was that caption an outlier?
October 12th, 2012 at 5:17 PM
The lineup display music is fucking horrible.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:18 PM
A lot of fans dressed as empty seats at Yankee Stadium.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:19 PM
Nice Job Yankee Fans. Embarrassing.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:20 PM
Good series by the GRRRRRRRAAAAAAAANDY MAAAAAAAAAN so far.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:21 PM
I have a terrible feeling about this game
It doesn’t even feel like a game of importance for some reason.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:22 PM
That depends on how far down the batting order they drop Mr. Winter Ball, I guess.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:24 PM
Because the Tigers will roll whomever wins.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:27 PM
Because the Tigers will roll whomever wins
But, but, Cabrera is having an abysmal postseason I thought??

October 12th, 2012 at 5:30 PM
Teixeira is such a faggot douche bag. It would suck to actually have to root for him and Arod.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:34 PM
The only guys i actually like to see succeed that wear Yankees uniforms are Swisher and Granderson and they are both absolute dumpster fires right now.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:34 PM
How come the Yankees aren’t the primetime game today?
October 12th, 2012 at 5:34 PM
These dudes aren’t even getting good swings.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:36 PM
Because your father touches you inappropriately.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:40 PM
Reasonable assessment.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:42 PM
Nice reverse jinx.

October 12th, 2012 at 5:44 PM
1) cards-nats have played afternoon games all series
2) ALCS starts tomorrow so they play early for travel purposes
October 12th, 2012 at 5:44 PM
From http://Yankees.com – 4:25 this afternoon – “newly released tickets for today’s game”. Guess this one isn’t sold out.
Next time New Yorkers give other fanbases shit about attendance Imma throw this at them.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:44 PM
This is the only reason.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:50 PM
I’m sure the Major Deegan and Cross Bronx are practically empty right now, 5:30 on a Friday afternoon.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:53 PM
I’m sure the Major Deegan and Cross Bronx are practically empty right now, 5:30 on a Friday afternoon.
Atlanta (allegedly “terrible sports town”)had 54,000 people in the seats last Friday at the exact same time. I suggest you get on I75SB at 4:00 on a Friday and let me know how empty that is.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:53 PM
Also, this isn’t just a late arriving crowd if tickets were still available 25 minutes before first pitch.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:54 PM
Something I really miss about my youth is World Series day games, and ditching afternoon classes to watch them.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
Adam jones. You suck. Swings at first pitch all series. Garbage.
October 12th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
and ditching afternoon classes to watch them.
I always ditched class to get high. Did you get high AND watch the games?
October 12th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
The Yankees have become an afterthought; they got bumped from primetime in favor of the Nats/Cardinals. The rest of the Nation ignoring a NYC sports team? Blasphemy! It’s New F@@@ing York!
October 12th, 2012 at 5:58 PM
Chris davis worked the count for the first time in 4 games
October 12th, 2012 at 5:59 PM
well then that’s that. Atlanta is just as good of a sports town as NYC.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:03 PM
well then that’s that. Atlanta is just as good of a sports town as NYC.
that wasn’t my argument now, was it?

October 12th, 2012 at 6:12 PM
This ump is inconsistent. Expand the strike zone for both pitchers!
October 12th, 2012 at 6:15 PM
Runner on first no outs. Why bunt when you can weakly fly out then hit into a DP?
October 12th, 2012 at 6:15 PM
Buddy bought $20 tix to the game off of Stubhub or something an hour before the game.
FEEL THE ELIMINATION GAME EXCITEMENT! BEST SPORTS TOWN EVAR!!!
October 12th, 2012 at 6:16 PM
Shades of earl weaver’s potty mouth
October 12th, 2012 at 6:16 PM
I don’t think the strike zone should be expanded for either pitcher. The strike zone is the strike zone.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:19 PM
I agree, but if it is, it should be called consistently.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:19 PM
Maybe all the Yankees fans are at Girardi’s dad’s funeral. I heard he died each time there was a game this series, was reincarnated, then died again the next game so that his son could be such a brave hero never forget.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:19 PM
whoah!!!
October 12th, 2012 at 6:22 PM
Ben, do you think it’s been called inconsistently thus far? I haven’t seen it.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:22 PM
You mean with the chance of the Yankees closing out the series in game 4 last night, your buddy didn’t buy tickets for game 5 on Tuesday?
October 12th, 2012 at 6:24 PM
Ibanez, mvp of george’s bawx
October 12th, 2012 at 6:24 PM
Raul Ibanez, 40, prototypical baseball player.
/Darrell and Monk’s school of baseball excellence
October 12th, 2012 at 6:26 PM
I think Hammel is getting the benefit of the doubt of a few pitches on the outside and at knee level.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:27 PM
1b says to grandy…now, who are you again?
October 12th, 2012 at 6:27 PM
lol…He’s right up there with the greats.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:29 PM
Haha…ben. have not seen that one before . Thought the beekeeper was back
October 12th, 2012 at 6:30 PM
I’m saying that the ticket was only $20. But whatever you say is fine too.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:31 PM
Two swipes on Wieters. Impressive.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:34 PM
Will lew ford be on a bitch?
October 12th, 2012 at 6:35 PM
He will not
October 12th, 2012 at 6:39 PM
Damn cc is fat. Him and joba are quite a combo meal
October 12th, 2012 at 6:41 PM
Review!
October 12th, 2012 at 6:41 PM
Dammit!
October 12th, 2012 at 6:42 PM
That’s a foul ball.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:42 PM
Reminiscent of doug decinces fouls
October 12th, 2012 at 6:42 PM
That ball bit the post
October 12th, 2012 at 6:43 PM
That was totally foul!*
* – listening on radio
October 12th, 2012 at 6:45 PM
Shocker. Baseball got the call wrong.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:47 PM
That ball hit the pole. Incredible.
October 12th, 2012 at 6:48 PM
A-rod coulda done that more nihilistically
October 12th, 2012 at 6:49 PM
Wow that o’s hat logo is lame-o’s
October 12th, 2012 at 6:52 PM
Game over, season over. Ah well, their shit offense didn’t deserve it anyway
October 12th, 2012 at 6:57 PM
This ump is awful.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
Almost feel like that call was one of the ones no matter what they called has to stand. I think it didn’t hit the pole, but I’m about 52% certain on that.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
Sager has no wallet
October 12th, 2012 at 7:04 PM
Yeah it’s like the receiver whose toe is right on the edge of the white line, you’re not going to be able to change the call on the field.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:05 PM
I absolutely agree and I’m a die hard O’s fan. From the first angle it looked foul. From the second it looked like it may have hit the pole but there was no definitive evidence that it did.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:09 PM
It changed direction after it hit the pole. Clearly. Doesn’t matter though, because the orioles can’t score anyway.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:12 PM
I don’t think the ball clearly hit the pole. If it did, as you say it did, the Orioles clearly can score. You’re contradicting yourself.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:23 PM
They can’t score more than one. My mistake.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:27 PM
Right. Because they won 93 regular season games and three playoff games 1-0. You’re right.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:29 PM
the moment i get home and turn on the tv, cc starts to lose it. fuck
October 12th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
Shocking. Reynolds struck out when it matters
October 12th, 2012 at 7:32 PM
You on the rag or something? Their offense is horrible. It’s not debatable.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:37 PM
Yes, I’m clearly on the rag. I haven’t argued that their offense isn’t horrible. In fact, I’ve argued that they’re a statistical anomaly all year long. But they can clearly score. Second in the bigs in home runs this season.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:39 PM
Hard to rip mcclotuch , but damn that sucked
October 12th, 2012 at 7:40 PM
My bad. Didn mean to go there on you.
They’ve scored 16 runs in eight games now. They’ve been as unclutch as possible. It’s the sole reason they’re losing.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:41 PM
I didnt think hardy was that slow
October 12th, 2012 at 7:41 PM
:whew:
October 12th, 2012 at 7:43 PM
Well that was terrible. O’s deserve to lose after that.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:45 PM
It’s not the sole reason they’re losing. Remember they’re a terrible defensive team as well. But the pitching sure has been splendid!
/Statistical anomaly
//Still a die-hard fan
October 12th, 2012 at 7:45 PM
O’s deserve to lose because of all the curveballs in the dirt they’ve swung at all 5 games.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Tigers in 5
October 12th, 2012 at 7:52 PM
Their defense and pitching has been fine. Their hitting has been embarrassing
October 12th, 2012 at 7:53 PM
Robinson cano has been a disaster.
October 12th, 2012 at 7:55 PM
This team has defied logic all season. Is there one more miracle left in the tank?
October 12th, 2012 at 7:56 PM
Not when adam jones and chris davis are your 3 and 4 hitters
October 12th, 2012 at 7:58 PM
Since August and the playoffs. You forget April through July. Worst in MLB. You have no clue.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:00 PM
okay haters
time to put on your tigers’ caps
let’s go yankees!
October 12th, 2012 at 8:00 PM
Good run but a pathetic ending. No plate discipline, awareness, baseball intelligence, etc.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:01 PM
Logic always wins out. Thank you O’s for a great season!
October 12th, 2012 at 8:01 PM
Yankees can lick taint
October 12th, 2012 at 8:02 PM
If adam jones and chris davis are the 3 and 4 hitters next year, Orioles should just forfeit next year now. Manny machado needs to be batting in the top 3
October 12th, 2012 at 8:03 PM
Pretty sure they already do. How do you think Jeter got the herp?
October 12th, 2012 at 8:05 PM
Chris davis makes Cody Ross look like a silver slugger

October 12th, 2012 at 8:05 PM

Hockey on tv! Well college hockey but its still hockey…Notre Dame vs Maine..in Kansas City..on NBC Sports Network right now
October 12th, 2012 at 8:14 PM
Sounds reasonable.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:17 PM
Yup. Miggy and Prince need to get it together though. I’d be down to watch that ND/Maine game a couple years ago when Wing prospects were playing on those teams.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:22 PM
Could be 6 when Leyland decides to start Kelly in a game.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:24 PM
Best part of tigers postseason so far: leyland finally realizing that Boesch sucks
October 12th, 2012 at 8:25 PM
Game 3 with Verlander and CC pitching is going to be great.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:26 PM
Don’t be hating on Donz. If Leyland manages as aggressively as he did in Game 5 they will be fine. And pray to God Valverde doesn’t blow more than one game. I kinda enjoy rooting for the Tigers because I’m not emotionally invested. If they lose, I really won’t care at all. Such a change from when the Tribe would blow it in the playoffs and I would be devastated.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:27 PM
LETS GO NATS
October 12th, 2012 at 8:28 PM
Captain Crunch is awful at Comerica.
October 12th, 2012 at 8:43 PM

The Cards refuse to die.
October 13th, 2012 at 12:29 AM
A lot of folks will wake up in the morning and be shocked by this one.
Cards – 9
