Indianapolis Colts in the Playoffs This Year? It Could Happen
After their stirring 30-27 triumph over the Packers, the Indianapolis Colts are 2-2 and go on the road Sunday against an injury-ridden Jets team coming off a short week.
The Colts are 3-point underdogs on the road, but it is a very winnable game, despite a few significant injuries.
Let’s say Indy is 3-2. Andrew Luck seems to be improving each week. The schedule for the rest of the season is … the easiest in the NFL?
vs. Cleveland (winless)
at Tennessee (2-4)
vs. Miami (2-3)
at Jacksonville (1-4)
at New England (3-2)
vs Buffalo (2-3)
at Detroit (1-3)
vs Tennessee (2-4)
at Houston (5-0)
at Kansas City (1-4)
vs Houston (5-0)
Eleven games left in the season, and only three are against teams with a winning record.
I’d say the only definite losses on the schedule are the Patriots and Texans (twice). And a note on Houston: The Texans should have the division wrapped up in early December, and might be resting starters in the season finale.
Yes, it can be challenging for rookies to win on the road. Tennessee just beat Pittsburgh at home. Detroit won’t stay down forever, and the Lions play tough at home. And more importantly, the Colts have a porous defense and no running game.
But if you’re having a glass half-full type … is 10-6 really out of the question for the Colts? Let’s give them losses at Tennessee, at New England, at Detroit and at Houston. If injuries continue to mount for the Steelers, is a Wild Card spot for the Colts really out of the question? The AFC East doesn’t have another team playoff-ready; nor does the AFC West. That leaves Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and yes, the Colts. (Come on, San Diego has no shot, you know that!)
Obviously, this post makes it a given that the Jets beat the Colts.

Fuck yeah!
October 12th, 2012 at 12:34 PM
But how many of said teams will have a less than .500 record by the time the Colts play them?
It’s still too early in the season.

Cleveland (irrewinning) takes away a bit of the sting.

Much as I would love to see this, the woeful O-Line that Luck is playing behind will cost them more than a few winnable games
/not even going to mention the defense

Sweet Jesus outside of Houston they don’t play a single good team.
October 12th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Just a guess (i.e. the same as yours), but I would think Houston probably has an easier schedule since they get to play the same shitty AFC South teams but don’t have to play themselves.

New England?
October 12th, 2012 at 12:39 PM
I stand by my statement.
October 12th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
because if we’ve learned anything this season it’s that the Jets can be counted on to win games they are expected to.
October 12th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
So then who would you say are the good teams in the NFL?
October 12th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
All I know is my heart says maybe
October 12th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
just remember they did manage to lose to an atrocious Jags team.

The Colts can’t stop the run, I like Miami to win there

This is a down year for the AFC but a 7-9 team isn’t getting in the playoffs
October 12th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
The Jets and Colts, primarily.

Falcons really should have lost to Panthers and didn’t play well against D.C. for 3 quarters. Lot of analysts have them rated as 3rd best team in the league. Don’t buy it for a second. They are as fraudy as ever.

That’s not good enough for Germany, son, they need to climb one spot.

They reek of Trent Green/Dick Vermeil era Chiefs to me. I don’t trust their D for a second.

Michigan agrees.

I am not sure why my comment was in quotes.

Let’s say Indy is 3-2.
I’d prefer not to.
October 12th, 2012 at 1:23 PM
Yep. That’s exactly who they remind me of. Maybe they can eke out a win in the play-off if they keep piling up these fraudy victories. But god have mercy if they go up against 49ers. Absolutely no shot.

AFC is horrible, those wild card spots are up for grabs.
October 12th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
i don’t think the AFC is that horrible. i mean, when a 9-7 team emerges as the champion that says a lot about both conferences quality of teams despite records.
October 12th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Detroit beats Indy no problem.

They were 10-6 in 2010 with a better team than this one. They were 2-14 last season with the same core, only they traded the league’s best starting QB for the league’s worst starting QB amalgam. I’d say they’re a 6-10 team this season with less overall talent than the 2-14 team, but a rookie QB who’s compensating for that lack of talent quite well and probably one of the top 15 QB’s in the league by the end of this season. 6-10 is my guess, 8-8 is the ceiling, 4-12 if they play like they did against the Jags at home more frequently. They lost to the Jags. At home.

Andrew Luck looks like Zach Braff‘s slightly slower-minded brother.
October 12th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
Which is what I meant in the first place.

That in and of itself makes for a great excalamation of surprise or anguish, much like “Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick.”

outside of Houston, New england, and baltimore..afc is pretty rough
