Seth Smith, One of the Oakland Game 4 Heroes, Sent a Priceless Text to Brandon McCarthy Last Night
Seth Smith had a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday, and then scored the game-winning run on a single by Coco Crisp, and the A’s extended their magical season one more game with an improbable 4-3 win over the stunned Detroit Tigers.
Afterward, Smith texted Oakland reliever Brandon McCarthy, asking if it was a big deal that he was trending on twitter. Classic.
Game 5 is at 9:37 tonight on TNT.

Always a fan when the term “hero” is used to describe an athlete playing a game.

I would argue that it is not.

The camera shot to the “Walk-Off a Hero” promotion sign after the Ibanez game-winner made me want to blow up humanity.

Man, I saw that on the replay during the early parts of the Tigers-A’s game and just shook my head.

Okay, I’ll be THAT guy…
Do you think everybody in the armed services is a hero?

Not nearly as big a deal as hitting a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning of a playoff game.
October 11th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Seriously, FUCK THIS.

i think there’s a certain amount of respect earned simply by volunteering, but “hero” is a term overused as much as “genius.”

I don’t know, That Guy. But that’s not the point.
This does not apply to athletes unless they’re pulling kids from fires or fallen grandmas out of crosswalks.

I haven’t paid attention to baseball like I used to, but I went to the game last night, and it was awesome.
That is all.
I think, most importantly, we have a big ratings battle tonight.
October 11th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Doubt it. The people are retards and would rather watch the fucking Titans.
October 11th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
well, the NFL game is a stinker (Pittsburgh vs Tennessee). People will watch the VP debate just for the comedy factor of Joe Biden.

I can’t be the only one to think it is silly to call it a “home run” when everybody but Bryce Harper jogs when they hit one. I mean, come on…

Brandon McCarthy is the best MLB follow on Twitter. Wish more athletes took his approach.
