South Carolina Will Wear Battle Uniforms vs. LSU, Spurrier Thinks They’re “Fancy”
This weekend’s South Carolina vs. LSU game became a bit uglier. The Gamecocks have announced they will wear their Under Armor “Battle” jerseys on Saturday. Steve Spurrier is “not real big on those fancy uniforms:”
“It looks pretty good,” Spurrier said at the time. “We showed it to the players, and they liked it. Of course, they like anything a little different and fancy. I more believe in the traditional uniforms we’ve been doing. I’m not real big on those fancy uniforms. If it’s a big game, I would rather wear our normal stuff.”
We’re not fans of using camo to trivialize actual battle. Aside from that these are garish. When it comes to aesthetics, Under Armor has the subtlety of a sledge hammer. In other instances it’s for a good cause at least.

Disgusting. LSU will win this weekend.

Not a huge fan. And yes, I agree LSU will win

God bless, Steve Spurrier. Awesome dig.

I’m not predicting a SC win, but did we all watch different games this weekend?
October 9th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Not sure LSU can score 14 points against any defense with a pulse…they might win but it’s gonna be close, and probably ugly
October 9th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
And how the hell did CBS pick Bama-Mizzou over this game?

I watched LSU/Florida until I decided I wanted to watch games that involved offense.

And how the hell did CBS pick Bama-Mizzou over this game?
This type of thing happened earlier in the season and someone gave a detailed explanation as to why CBS didn’t get the #1 game. I can’t remember what it was.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Same here. I don’t see how LSU easily wins.

Same here. Was brutal to watch. I see SC winning somehow. Since their horrendous opener at Vandy, they have looked really good.

Believe they guarantee schools prime-time slots, if I’m not mistaken

USC did this last year vs. AUB for the Wounded Warrior project. Good cause.
On another note, USC was -9.5 vs AUB when they wore those and lost at home 16-13. LSU coming to town is a 3pt dog. Here’s to USC reversing that trend. Lay the pts and take the Cocks at home.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Remember that time USCjr played the game of a lifetime to beat Bama, then turned around and lost to an unranked Kentucky the very next weekend? Do you think LSU is gonna let an opponent walk into Death Valley after they lost to Florida and run all over them? Ain’t gonna happen. SC will choke and puke and LSU will walk away with the dub.

ESPN gets to pick a couple of games. I think CBS gets to lock down like three games absolutely, then ESPN gets a crack at a couple. Then the rest CBS gets first dibs on a week-by-week basis. Something like that.

Thanks for the tv info.

I believe you have that backwards. The game’s in Baton Rouge and USCjr is getting 3.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
My bad, I thought the game was in Columbia. GloriousMullet with a great point about USC upsetting Bama and then getting beat by lowly KEN the next week. I don’t know about USC laying pts on the road, in Death Valley on a Sat. nite against a pissed off LSU team.
Wont touch this game. There will be some hi-jinx in Baton Rouge Saturday nite.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Yeah, I’m all out of sorts. LSU -3 vs. USC. Still not touching this game.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
I also remember a more recent time where LSU scored a combined 18 points against Auburn and Florida…did hit 38 against Towson tho
October 9th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Spurrier is older than my grandfather so i’m not sure i agree with his tastes. These uniforms look pretty sweet to me. much better than the maryland uniforms.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Considering what Oregon, Maryland, and Notre Dame have taken the field wearing, these are downright mediocre.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
And Les Miles announced he will leave all his QBs off the active roster since he doesn’t know how to use them anyway.
Seriously, USC might win this by 20 points. The Cocks will put 10 guys on the line on defense and dare LSU to throw it, which LSU can’t do.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
Not to get all jck49erfan on you, but I think they’d be much better if instead of a small camo pattern, the sleeves were just a few big blotches. Less military-y, and wouldn’t be so garish against the large blocks of solid color in the uniform.
/knows nothing about fashion
October 9th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Bad unis. Like terrible bad.
As for the game? This is the week to determine if the Cocks are for real. I think LSU’s D just suffocates them, but I’m not sure LSU can score on a good D like USCjr.
I like LSU 10-6 or something ughhhly like that.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
If that LSU team is coached by The Mad Hatter, yes.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Is Vandy any good? I figured they would be competitive and give some teams a scare, win a bunch of home games vs. the spread, but lost 3 games already.
That said, they played SC tough at home and their other two losses were on the road.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Normally I don’t get all impressed by Oregon’s uniforms, but their combo this past weekend may be the best I’ve ever seen. Loved that green on black pants
October 9th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
From what I saw Jordan Rodgers is the Tino Sunseri of the SEC. Misleading stats and have to see him to realize he’s terrible.

i think the cock roll over lsu, who couldn’t move the ball against a PAC 12 defense right now.
October 9th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
LSU’s offensive line was mediocre to begin with, and then they lost their LT for the year and two other O linemen went down last week. They are running single receiver patterns because they can’t protect the QB, even on max protect.
Unless LSU’s D and ST score at least 14 points, they are going to lose.
(And I am an LSU fan).

How Nike gets away with calling it’s gear “Pro Combat” is beyond me. This is pro combat.
October 9th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
This looks like ’08/’09 for LSU. They may not win again until Ole Miss.
October 9th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
the REAL USC will skin the tigers this weekend, i do like lsu but they are weak compared to what they have been and what they will be facing. USC IS twice as hungry and it will show sat @ 8…
October 9th, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Actually, they did NOT wear them. The refs complained before the game that the numbers were hard to wear, and they were forced to take them off for the game.

I also remember that SC was QB’d by Stephen Garcia, not Connor Shaw — big difference. Plus, Lattimore didn’t play in the 2nd half, another big difference. Situations aren’t comparable.
October 9th, 2012 at 2:12 PM
well said. and dont forget about that incredible defense. clowney & taylor WILL get around lsu’s o line. beleive it now or when you see it sat. thank ya…
