Oakland A’s, Darlings of Baseball, Face Elimination Against Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers
Oakland staged a late-season rally to catch and overtake Texas and win the AL West. They avoided the Wild Card game!
What did they get in return? Two games in Detroit – which won six fewer games during the regular season – and now, finally, a home game.
The problem? Oakland is down 0-2.
Brett Anderson pitches for Oakland against Anibal Sanchez.
Sorry Billy Beane, Joaquin Andujar isn’t walking through that door. Carney Lansford isn’t walking through that door.

Maybe they can add Rincon to the playoff roster?
October 9th, 2012 at 8:45 PM
vladdy did you ask eic to erase that comment with your name in it?
October 9th, 2012 at 8:48 PM
It’s Brett Anderson and he’s a heck of a lot better than Jaoquin Andujar was for the A’s…I’ll take Carney Lansford back though.
October 9th, 2012 at 8:54 PM
No. Can you?

October 9th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
Damn it. Sorry, AP. I just lost in an epic way on the internet today. I think the best thing to do is not post about it and nobody will wonder. That post had 35 comments and nobody is apparently posting on TBLAD tonight. This will not become another Coop meme.
October 9th, 2012 at 9:20 PM
Im not worried about it. Mole joked that it would be a way to get something else on front of my google search. Ha! When you google my name, there is someone else with more hits. I am fairly off the grid nowadays. Not being on facebook is a win.

If my borders are crossed, I will retaliate. Well, probably not. You see, I’m lazy and hardly use that email account anymore beyond finding passwords for Amazon and REI.
The fact that you have to watch Charlie Weiss and Dayne Christ every Saturday is punishment enough Vlad
Not this weekend. Or not for much. A step-niece I’ve met three times is getting married and I’m being forced to go by my wife. The reception is at the Knights of Columbus and I plan on sitting at the bar watching football. KU should be at the tail end of getting curb stomped. I will be in deep KSU football territory and I already have a long list of Bruce Webber jokes. Which won’t fucking register with the Catbackers yet. In short, lots and lots of bourbon is in my future.

I liked it years ago, before I was 21 and still learning the game. You guys should know about this a year away. It’s from the same guys as Rounders, so I’m hopeful.

October 9th, 2012 at 9:49 PM
senior year in college we had a class trip to moheghan sun at the end of the year. one group of guys who played poker at least twice a week, watched rounders and the Poker championship on ESPN every day decided to take their $50 in chips plus their piggy banks to the texas hold’em tables.
30 minutes later they are all bust and got two guys seriously pissed at them while they were at the table for poor table etiquette. it was great watching their walk of shame after that.

October 9th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
the trip was awesome, seeing these guys get a reality check was even better.
best part was, most people spent their times in the buffet or the slots, group of my friends and i were the only ones smart enough to get a good spot at the bar/lounge for the last fwe hours of the trip. good times.

Thank CRM. I sent him a text and asked him to remove it and he did around 2:45, while the post was still going. The SEO of this site is too powerful for you guys and Google indexes this place every 15 minutes or so. No one needs to know what you all really do and think during the day.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
Thanks, Rex. I screwed up. I owe you. I’m not going to give you money or anything of value, but I can help out if you if needed. Like (insert team you follow) needs defending or whatever.

I missed a “I’m not trying to talk about politics but…” post and the meat of a Sandusky post today? I really gotta stop working.

I can drive to rochester, NY and get some good southern style fried chicken. Spicy please
October 9th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Queefer, the best response to the politic comment was Wayne Fontes Safari saying “just shut off your computer”
October 9th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Oakland up 2-0. Would much rather play the As should the Orioles manage to pull this outta their ass.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Homerun oakland!
October 9th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
I got a good chuckle out of that, along with the obligatory SHUT IT DOWN! comment that followed.
AP, how’s the job search man? Any nibbles?
October 9th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
Job search blows as much as the jets run defense. Been putting out applications and resumes. Still no hours at my current “job”. Ridiculous. I seriously hate living on public assistance right now. Its depressing. Politics aside, its not an encouraging way to be but it helps a little bit for now
October 9th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
I was unemployed for a stretch during early 2009. I feel you on the government money thing and the whole “loss of purpose.” I hated being on UE but it was a much needed safety net for four months.
Hang in there dude. You’ll find something. Anything hourly that’s worth giving up assistance for?
October 9th, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Thats what i look for: hourly work. A lot of places wont take me due to background check (understood and no hard feelings on that). Some places want people with direct experience (i guess having related experience in various areas isn’t good enough nowadays). The temp agencies around here can lick a bag. They are useless.
If i found a job, id be off assistance as soon as possible
October 9th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
There’s an apparently pretty good Australian rugby player with the same name as mine that sucks up the google hits. Surprising since I have a unique last name.

October 9th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
KC, if you could send me some of that authentic, local delicacy known as Southern Fried Chicken, I wouldn’t turn it down. Heard it’s great down there. Rex
There are a couple Popeye’s franchises still left down here. Just post your name and address and I’ll send some out to you.
I seriously hate living on public assistance right now. Its depressing. Politics aside, its not an encouraging way to be but it helps a little bit for now AP
I lived in fear for my job for three years (2008 – early 2011.) That sucked. At least I had a job. I had a young child and had just bought a house. Fucking horrible time in my life. Things are better now, but, shit, I became a fan of isolationism. Selfish, I know.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Dear all work from home companies, both legit and scam: kiss my ass
October 9th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
What makes you think it’s not Fontes?
Nobody would claim that name.
There’s an apparently pretty good Australian rugby player with the same name as mine that sucks up the google hits.
Enter my real name into Google and some mass church pastor in Houston comes up.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
sports marketing companies, too.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:51 PM
95 percent of my company’s manufacturering takes place in China. 95 percent of the people who install those products are blue collar through and through, many of whom used to work on the production side of the process.
I hate talking to former factory workers who are out of work and both blame outsourcing and understand the economic realities. “Why don’t you guys just make stuff here?” is a terrible question to answer gently.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:52 PM
no matter how you tell it you’re basically saying they aren’t worth the money. hard for anyone in any job to hear that when their job was lost to someone at a lower salary.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:54 PM

October 9th, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Tigers got all the breaks the first two games. A’s were due to get a few in return.
October 9th, 2012 at 10:59 PM
Yeah, it’s terrible. You know what you mean, they know what you mean.
What really pissed me off is that we have a ton of problems with our Chinese vendors. Blown deadlines, wrong specs, dysfunctional components in prototypes – this shit happens constantly. So we have to send reps over to the Orient for weeks at a time overseeing production to ensure its correct. Costs many tens of thousands of dollars. And we’re a five billion international company working with Chinese vendors that produce some of the most well know technology products in the world for other major American companies.
Point is, it’s sucks everything comes down to being as cheap as possible.
October 9th, 2012 at 11:04 PM
the funny thing is, though, the most sought after cars in the US are the ones built with costly labor in Europe… yet american companies (not picking on yours) turn to profit over quality in the mfg process.
October 9th, 2012 at 11:08 PM
We have a lot of products that can command a premium in the market, so we could afford to use American manufacturers for some projects. The problem is the retail chains. Big box stores account for over $250 million in US sales a year. And their margin requirements are staggering. Amazon has forced that down in recent years, but we’re still talking 45-50 points (average) for anything sold in the stores.
October 9th, 2012 at 11:14 PM
yeah, it’s ridiculous. once i sat down and actually learned about the process of designing, manufacturing, and the costs of productions and sales of a high end Polo shirt…it blew my mind.
materials cost 10% of the sticker price, 60% was profit for the company, the other 30% went to the retailer and distributors. crazy.
anyway, just finished homeland episode 2, time to read a few more chapters of IT and hit the sack.
October 9th, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Desired, yes. Affordable to the average American consumer, no.
