Red Sox to Fire Bobby Valentine, According to Jon Heyman [UPDATE: Valentine Fired]
Bobby Valentine is going to be fired by the Red Sox any day now, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to one of the greatest 1-year coaching disasters in recent baseball history.
[UPDATE: Valentine has been fired, the Red Sox announced on October 4th at 12:50 pm.]
The Red Sox went from missing the postseason on the final day of the 2011 season, to hiring Valentine, to being horrendous, to blowing up their team, to finishing in last place in the AL East, behind the lowly Toronto Blue Jays.
When the biggest stories of the year involve banning alcohol in the clubhouse, combative radio interviews, players-only meetings and a text message setting off a mutiny, you know it has been a disaster.
Teams that had more wins than Boston this year: the Pittsburgh Pirates (by a large margin), Seattle (ha!), the Mets (really) and Kansas City (!).
Since they’ve gutted all the toxic headcases from the clubhouse, they’ll bring back Terry Francona, right?

Not with Larry Lucchino still in charge of baseball operations. He’s a big part of the problem in Boston. John Henry is too occupied with Liverpool to realize how bad Lucchino has screwed up this baseball team.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need him there! Can’t they just get rid of Junichi Tazawa? Trade him straight up for Pedro Strop. Problem solved.

ha! last guy boston needs is another guy who throws heat but no control.

Tazawa did make A-Rod look like a rookie last night. great breaking stuff

Not egregious enough with the “Previously”s

Tazawa is awesome. They posted for him, though, didn’t they? I want to pry him away from Boston

Is Tim Tebow the answer or the problem in NY? Sarah Spain, Jemele Hill and Julie Foudy debate it.

You know who would make a great manager for the Red Sox? Bobby Petrino. Just hear me out on this: he has spent his whole life as a football coach and would be a terrible fit.

He would be a great fit at the U

A’s up three with 3 innings to go.
Rangers, 121 million dollar payroll.
Angels, 155 million dollar payroll.
A’s, 55 million dollar payroll.
And the A’s are 9 outs away from winning their 94th and division clinching game, sending the Rangers to a one game wildcard playoff.

No, Golden’s gonna have that ship righted soon enough

Also, Sox should hire Joe Torre, just to fuck with the Yankees.

The plan is that one of the QB recruits that came in this year or that will be there next year for Miami will be good enough to ease off some of the pressure on Duke in 2013 or 2014 (no way he’s still in Coral Gables after that) and the defense gets itself back to at least a respectable level and the Canes win it all, thus buying Al Golden all the time left on his contract.

MLB hypothetical, under current setup:
Team A wins 102, but finishes second in division to Team Bm which wins 103 games.
Team C wins 82 games and gets in as second wildcard.
Team C then beats Team A in the one-game wildcard round, thus negating the 20-win difference in the regular season.
Wouldn’t it be better for each league to reseed the teams in the playoffs based on overall record?
/ Also applies to NFL

Hamilton just struck out to end top of the 8th. Three outs to go, Oakland up 8-5.
October 3rd, 2012 at 6:37 PM
Yes. They should, but they like to have the importance of winning your division ahead of record.
The Tigers won their division, yet both teams in the one game wildcard will have a better record than them. You could have to 93 win teams playing one another in the one game playoff, while the Tigers sit and wait for the ALDS round with only 87 wins.

Keep trying J-Mac….you’re hate of Boston is fine, and we all hate Valentine. But remember what you get when you have Valentine on steroids: Rex Ryan.
