Doug Gottlieb to Dan Patrick: “I was told specifically, ‘you can’t talk enough Tebow.’”
This should surprise nobody, of course.
“I was told specifically…’you can’t talk enough Tebow’.” -Gottlieb on ESPN management.

Tebow moves the meter! He’s enough of a lightning rod to send Hannah Storm and Jaws to Jets’ camp for a week. The Sportscenter twitter feed has been obsessed with Tebow this week – probably in hopes of trying to pump up the Jets/Texans game next Monday are garner a high rating. MNF ratings have been sagging for two years now.
Tim Tebow isn’t the answer, of course, but maybe by talking about him, Rex Ryan will be pressured into changing his mind and completely crushing the already-brittle psyche of a (struggling) QB you have to pay $8.25 million next year!

Seems like that’s how the EIC of this site thinks too
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Start the game before 8:40, you dickheads!

Tebow moves the meter!
Thus another Tebow post.
/TBL wins. He got me to hit the link.

Gottlieb sucks.
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:52 PM
If Sanchez didn’t have a nearly perfect day against the Bills, he’d be benched by now.
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Greg McElroy will be starting by week 8.

Did chocolatedunker break the site?

Could not agree more. 7:30 kickoffs should be mandatory. That week one Ravens game was great I was in bed by 10:15.
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:55 PM
No more Tebow talk until he gets caught in a ‘wide stance.’
/Any day now
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:55 PM
they actually have some potentially good games this season
but i agree it’s terrible they start the game so late.
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:56 PM
about time i get back on
i think that shows tebow posts are bad for the site

move to the West Coast, problem solved
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Start the game way too late and, because they’ve had crappy matchups, MNF’s reputation is not really that great.
October 3rd, 2012 at 12:59 PM
I get off work at 9:30 on Monday. 30 min drive home and can catch the second half at the bar. Good for me.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:00 PM
I’ve found myself catching up on DVR’d shows during halftime and just forgetting about the game in the 2nd half.
/because the games usually suck
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:01 PM
Coincidence ratings have declined since this clown has entrenched himself in the booth?

might want to use this strategy for Lion’s games as well…

SNF has long replaced MNF in terms of stature. Also, Al Michaels.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Sorry, I’m a masochist.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:04 PM
This xInfinity.
Oh, and stop trying to be all cutsie in picking, what you think are going to be, the next “up-and-coming” or “hot” team to feature on MNF.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:07 PM
SNF is better in every way, better matchups, better announcers, and they start the game slightly earlier.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:08 PM
flex scheduling was brilliant. however negotiated that deserves a big raise.
also, MNF used to be great before the advent of sunday ticket, when more people would be glad to just watch any football in primetime regardless of matchup.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:08 PM
he’s awesome. i disagree with him on quite a bit, but his show was great.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:09 PM
Don’t forget the starters saying where they went to school! ESPN just scrolls the starters at the top of the screen quickly.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:10 PM
they mostly get the dregs, so they have to reach and then promote the hell out of it.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Yeah, Gruden needs to go back to coaching. He sucks on MNF.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:12 PM
I agree with this. I also enjoy his bball analysis. He provides actual analysis of what is going on and steers clear of nonsense cliches.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:12 PM
the only thing he’s really good at on MNF, and this doesn’t happen frequently enough, is his pre-snap reads and analysis on what to watch for offensively.
times when he has done it has been spot on as to what the offense does and who to keep an eye on as the play develops.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:13 PM
I wouldn’t go that far. I mean, they definitely have some pull in what games they get. But when they basically try to load up on the NFC East and Central, the Jets, and the “fill-in-the-blank-trendy-pick”, they most likely get stuck with garbage. the506 (I think) has a pretty good explanation of how the games are divvied up (and how CBS and FOX get to protect certain games).
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:17 PM
Still waiting for this week’s maps to go up, but I’m assuming Pats/Broncos gets more national coverage over Bills/49ers, right? Really hope to be able to watch the game at home for the 3rd week in a row.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:20 PM
it’s an overstatement, but they just recently revised the way games are picked before the season. they used to have the networks pick x amount that are protected at all costs even from flex scheduling, then SNF, then MNF get to pick. but SNF has the flex so even if a non protected game turned out to be great, they get a mulligan. MNF was and always will be stuck with whatever they get.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:24 PM
I agree there, or he’ll notice something in the initial play, direct the replay guys what he wants to see and make an excellent point that 100% of the public and 95% of other ex-coaches and talking heads would miss….But when he does something like that I go “And why isn’t he coaching again….”. His talent is sort of being wasted in the booth.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:26 PM
maybe we’ll see him on the sidelines in NY next season?
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:28 PM
The production is outstanding as well.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Personally I’m hoping Jerrah cans the Golden Ginger and brings Gruden in.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:30 PM
miss….But when he does something like that I go “And why isn’t he coaching again….”. His talent is sort of being wasted in the booth.
Look at his coaching record and get back to me. It the same as Brian Bilick’s. his last few years in TB were horrible.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Rodgers’ hair looks weird in the NBC intro…their whole production can go piss up a rope
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:34 PM
i think that’s what he wants, he’s going the Parcell route by only taking on teams with set foundations and only a few key motivational speeches/players away from the glory.
but the spotlight on NY might be tough to pass up if the Jets gig is open.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:36 PM
Dan Patrick still conducting Mother Ship exit interviews? Damn son, let it go………………… Doug Gottlieb sucked, yet he is 100 times better than John Kincade or whatever his name is.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:38 PM
True, but could some of that fall on the Glazers? I’m more familiar with their EPL team ownership and if they run the Bucs anywhere near the same way it may explain a bit of it…And on the flip side at a certain point the message from the messenger gets old and it’s time to shake things up. Gruden certainly not devoid of some of the blame, if not a majority.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:40 PM
All of this.
October 3rd, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Oh, without a doubt. You know CBS is going to give everyone outside of Buffalo and San Fran the Brady/Manning matchup.
From what I saw on Twitter, JP (the guy who runs the site) isn’t putting up the maps until Wednesday afternoons because so many of the affiliates were switching between Tuesday and Wednesday. I imagine they’ll be up by the time you leave work this afternoon.
October 3rd, 2012 at 2:36 PM
Tebow in a mirror = Woe be it
October 3rd, 2012 at 2:42 PM
So nobody is going to say that he’s right and it’s a smart move by ESPN? Or do we just assume that, and move on to other things?
