The guard in that video has same reaction of NY cop being called for a stolen bike. What are you going to do?

Are we just gleening off Extra Mustard?
Two Vids and lovely Lacey Chabert are from yesterday’s PM Extra Mustard CNNSI site.

I’m having a hard time telling if the Bears are pretty good or if Dallas is just a dumb poorly coached team.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:32 AM
tough question.
It was Chabert’s birthday, fwiw.

Lacey Chabert is 30? Time flies. Cute, but still too young for me.
Interesting. Author was full of patience and grace. Hope the kid learned his lesson & cuts the crap.
Cool moment last night: when the Braves’ loss was announced at Nationals’ Park, Morse was coming up to hit. The whole stadium seemed to sing Morse’s walk-up music (“Take On Me”). I got goosebumps.

My favorite 80s song. Well in a tie with Safety Dance and Big Country (sang by Big Country from the album In a Big Country).

Dallas/Jets similarities:
Dallas opens with impressive win over Giants.
Jets open with impressive win over the Bills.
Dallas loses in Seattle.
Jets lose in Pitt.
Dallas narrowly defeats Tampa.
Jets narrowly defeat Miami.
Dallas embarrassed by Bears.
Jets embarrassed by 49ers.

October 2nd, 2012 at 8:41 AM
Sadly, for the Cowboys at least, the Jets are scoring 4 more points per game than Dallas. Only Jacksonville is scoring at a lower rate than the Cowboys.

Nate Silver’s book came out last Tuesday. I haven’t started it yet but I think a lot of people on here would really dig it. Called Signal and the Noise.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:43 AM
So you’re saying Dallas really sucks and has zero chance the rest of the year? Not sure I buy that.
Just asking which made a stronger impression. On the surface Dallas did but the Bears should’nt be overlooked. But then they looked godawful against the Packers 2 weeks ago so I don’t know what to make of them yet.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:44 AM
in which of the 3 leagues do you think payroll is discussed the most?
Baseball. By far, and usually with a narrative that is completely false ( as illustrated AGAIN this year).
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:45 AM
tough to compare salary wise, since the NBA has a cap. in which of the 3 leagues do you think payroll is discussed the most?
The league with the worst tv ratings?

I noticed he now has Obama with almost an 86% chance of winning now. No drama in this year’s election, it appears.
I picked up the book but haven’t started it yet. I hear there’s a chapter on Haralabob Voulgaris. Looking forward to it.

I don’t even go near that corridor. If I’m heading south from Central PA, I hit 81S and then cut over 66 to US 17 and drop below Fredericksburg. That I-95 area is a bitch.

One of my favorite follows and a must follow if you’re into the NBA.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:48 AM
Was railing about this last night but not sure if anyone cared, so I’ll throw it out there: what are everyone’s thoughts on the one-game WC?
Right now not a fan. Don’t like the idea of a solid team like the Braves the chance of being eliminated to a team that didn’t win as many games. Why play 100+ games if 1 game ruins your playoffs. Series determine better team. Not 1 game
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:48 AM
(here we go.)
Money grab. But, what chaps me is how Atlanta could win the play-in, then get the first two games of the next round at home. With their bullpen, the Nats could be down 2-0 before they play their first playoff home game.
Where’s the earned advantage from having the better overall record?
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:48 AM
what are everyone’s thoughts on the one-game WC?
Hate it. Baseball should never be set up as a one game proposition. (It is great when a 162 game regular season comes down to 1 game.) I know there are scheduling issues but I don’t understand, if you want to add a 5th playoff team, why you wouldn’t lop off 2 or 3 regular season games and make the WC round a best of 3.
/I know its because that would mean taking away home games which equal big $ but it is still frustrating as a fan
//Go O’s
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:49 AM
not at all. just through 4 games they’re clones of one another.
i do think that will change.
Jets are cooked.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:49 AM
There’s no question that low payroll teams CAN make the playoffs. But is it sustainable? Barring massive injuries or outlier years, high payroll teams are typically in contention for a playoff spot. The Angels didn’t make it this year because the AL is stacked. The Phillies got injured early.
Four of the six division winners are in the top 10 in payroll: Texas, Yankees, Tigers, Giants. The Reds benefited from a horrible division, and Washington (like TB a few years back and Oakland in the early 2000s) is riding underpaid young talent.
Only the Orioles and As are really surprises, and don’t expect to see them back in the postseason for a while.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Agree that the WC should be a 3 game series. Bitching about it seems over the top though. Great for the game. No AL team clinched a playoff spot until a few days ago. That’s crazy.

October 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Hope it’ll be a better set up next year, this year it was squeezed in where it didnt even really fit and homefield in the LDS gets messed up. I do think I’ll like it though.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Dallas is something like 4-13 ATS when favored at home the last 17 games. Dallas seems to be too high after a big win and then bounces back strong after a bad loss. The 2-week bye is a god send for them. They beat the Ravens in 2 weeks. BAL will come in 4-1 and will be favored by 7. DAL wins outright.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
+1
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Initially I hated the idea of any playoff expansion. I’m a traditionalist (reactionary?) in general. But I’ve come around on it. I actually like it. Hope they keep it at one game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:51 AM
There goes queefer. Never change, man.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:52 AM
The entire season comes down to a one-game playoff for the two WC teams, then they have to travel to the division winner the next day for the start of the DS. That’s not enough of a benefit?
I’m an Orioles fan. I would allow Adam Jones to sacrifice a baby in center field if it meant missing that horseshit wild card game. Winning the division is HUGE. If you’re going to expand the playoffs, do it the right way. The season should not come down to one game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Essentially this. Either this kid is seriously fucked up and needs mental health help, or the author grossly sensationalized what went on.
Trolling isn’t a really apt description – maybe that’s where my confusion/issue came from.
/not condoning the behavior by any means
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Hate that guy. The world would be a far better place without Seth Green and McFarlane.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Though true, it still has a fairly strong correlation to winning. Top 10 teams in salary last year: Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Mavs, Spurs, Hawks, Grizz, Magic, Clips, Bulls.
Bottom 10: Jazz, Nuggets, Rockets, T-Wolves, Bobcats, Nets Cavs, Pacers, Raptors, Kings.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:53 AM
I heard on the radio this morning that underdogs are 22-3 ATS in the Cowboys’ last 25 games. Haven’t confirmed it, but if true…wow.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:54 AM
The entire season comes down to a one-game playoff for the two WC teams
Perhaps they should win their division then? The way it was set up last year gave no incentive to win the division. Can’t have that.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:54 AM
what’s wrong with Seth Green?
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:55 AM

October 2nd, 2012 at 8:55 AM
I think it’s great if your team isn’t stuck in the WC. I don’t think it’s fair that a playoff team can be eliminated in the first game. It’s a total crapshoot. That’s like having giving each NFL wild card team the ball and saying the right to advance comes down to one drive.
Think about this: what if Oakland and Texas tie for the division and Bal/NYY win the other WC? Oakland would have a game at 10:00 ET on Thursday for the division tie breaker, then have to fly to the east coast for a 7 pm ET game in NY or Baltimore. That is fucking absurd.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:55 AM
BUT HE DOES VOICES WITH GAY INNUENDO!!!
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Hope they keep it at one game.
The only person I’ve seen like it. That’s why we play series. The better team will generally win a series. Anyone can win one game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I think it’s a good move. The wild card teams were not being disadvantaged enough compared to the division winners. Win your division and stop complaining if you don’t want to be in that game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM
It didn’t seem like that big of a stretch to me. I’ve known someone who’s received a chopped up Chucky doll in the mail from a random Internet troll/stalker. Fucked up but it’s certainly capable of happening.
I don’t like it at all, but then I’m one of those dipshits that think baseball should go back to two divisions in each league and having only a best of 7 LCS and WS.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM
I understand the argument about a 162 game season coming down to one game and how unfair it all is. But let me tell you, I am geeked up to watch those two games even though I could care less about any of those 4 teams. It is going to be high drama, its game 7 without us having to wait 6 games to get there.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:57 AM

October 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
The two of them should have a gladiator style match as the Oscar opening. Then I might watch.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Only the Orioles and As are really surprises
You really undermine your point when you spew nonsense like this. If you can show me where a lot if people had the Nats leading the NL East for almost the whole year and winning that division ill retract my comment. And the Orioles were a huge surprise. A’s too.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:58 AM
You get the last at-bat, that’s basically it. Until the WS, because that is stupidly decided by the AS game (and Bird Selig is such a genius right?).
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Ha! I was about to say.
October 2nd, 2012 at 8:59 AM
I agree with this line of thought. It puts more emphasis on winning your division.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
That simple, eh? Just win the AL East in a sport without a salary cap?
Having three of five home games in a playoff isn’t enough of an advantage? How much advantage should a division winner get? You’re acting like the WC winners are 10 games behind everyone else. I think one extra home game is fine.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I don’t think it’s fair that a playoff team can be eliminated in the first game
Holy entitlement. Win your division. Problem solved.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 AM
Maybe give the WC champion an extra day off before traveling to the home of the division winner.
My fervent desire today would be the Nationals hosting games 1&2, WC hosting games 3&4 and Washington hosting game 5.
Next year, my view will be different, based on what’s best for my team. Of course, next year my team may not even be in the playoffs.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:01 AM
That simple, eh? Just win the AL East in a sport without a salary cap?
Tampa Bay seems to do this just fine. Again, facts ruin your narrative.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
Great, some “people” got a prediction wrong. What’s your point? The Phillies got injured and Washington rode a bunch of underpaid talent to a division.
Bolded: that’s exactly what I said.
Four of the six division winners have top-10 payrolls. Money matters. Not sure why we’re arguing this.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:02 AM
162 game season is a loooong time.
Meanwhile, the the 1st quarter of this NFL season is already in the books…
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:03 AM
I really hope all 4 teams finish with the same record. I want to see how they figure everything out, and how they are seeded.
Head-to-head or a series of coin flips?
/this 2nd wildcard is ass
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:03 AM
Refs actually screwed that one up and pretty badly. LA Tech had taken a timeout with their punt/FG team on the field. They came back out with the offense. By rule, Virginia should have been allowed to substitute their special teams out. The refs let LA Tech quick snap the ball while UVA’s punt returner was trying to get off the field in the clusterfuck of a substitution and the refs flagged them for 12 men on the field.
/ACC refs are back to being the worst in football
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:04 AM
I’d be fine with this. Wild Card should always be on the road for the first two. That’s more than fair.
Tampa Bay does fine? They’ve won the division twice in history.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:06 AM
I’m not saying it’s the fairest thing. I have to admit that as a fan with no team in contention, the one game playoff will be very dramatic/exciting.
FWIW, despite it being a loss the most memorable baseball game of my life was the Bucky Dent one game playoff in ’78, perhaps only eclipsed by the Dave Roberts stolen base game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:06 AM
It is going to be high drama, its game 7 without us having to wait 6 games to get there
Contrived drama. I’m not old old school, but jeez. At least a 3 game series would do fine. Start regular season few days earlier so as not to push the WS back to November.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Tampa Bay does fine? They’ve won the division twice in history.
They’ve been around since what, 1997? You’re out of your element here man. Your irrational selig hate has taken away all perspective.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
I hope when baseball “purists” begin to die off and more progressive management comes to the forefront we see a complete reworking of MLB.
I realize none of this will happen, but a salary cap, shorter season, expanded playoffs, instant replay, standardized rules, and balanced schedules would really make the game so much better.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:07 AM
And the guy on the rocks; dude, there are two rules:
1. watch the waves break for 5 minutes to get your bearings on high water marks.
2. NEVER turn your back to it. Geez!
bonus rule: if you get swept out, just tread water until the tide sends you to shore.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:08 AM
perhaps only eclipsed by the Dave Roberts stolen base game.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:08 AM
what metric are you using for “better”?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Would you rather make the playoffs or not? That’s what it comes down to. It’s not everyone else’s fault that your owner sucks and can’t manage the organization in a way the Rays do.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
“I know nothing about this topic but allow me some time to present some sweeping changes.”
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
BTW, I’m a fan of the team in the 2nd smallest market in the MLB and I have no problem with the economics of baseball.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:09 AM
They had top 5 draft picks for half a decade. That’s why they got good. They got to exploit underpaid talent before they could seek fair market value and won a lot of games because of it. Oakland did the same thing with Mulder, Hudson and Zito.
The Rays are baseball’s outlier team, and it took a serious amount of pain (six straight years in the AL East cellar) to even become competitive.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Since ’08, they have won 97, 84, 96, 91 and 86 (so far) games. Looks fine to me.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:10 AM
I understand the argument about a 162 game season coming down to one game and how unfair it all is. But let me tell you, I am geeked up to watch those two games even though I could care less about any of those 4 teams. It is going to be high drama, its game 7 without us having to wait 6 games to get there.
As much as I want to avoid the WC game (don’t want AJ sacrificing babies but I want the AL East bad) part of me would love to see Buck handle that one game scenario. Would have to set the over/under on pitchers used at 7.5. He would be mixing and matching for 4-5 innings.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
I’d rather not make the playoffs than lose in a winner take all coin flip. If Selig is unable to do what every other sport can and craft a sensible playoff system, then keep it at one WC and if the Orioles don’t make it then they dont make it. At least there’s no false sense of accomplishment that way. This is just a 163rd game.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
More games than the Red Sox.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Two things:
First, I look forward to Nate Silver’s de-crowning almost as much as Obama losing. Talk about over-hype.
Second, as a life long Dallas fan I am not going to get mad at Romo, Bryant or Garrett. There is one common denominator for the last decade and a half of mediocrity. Jerry Jones. Only way he changes is for the Boys to tank and people stop coming to games.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
What happens if the Yankees drop 2 to the Sox and Baltimore wins 2? The Yanks would have to trot out CC and then lose him for the ALDS.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:12 AM
They won the division each of those years? Huh…
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:13 AM

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Contrived? I guess you can choose to feel that way, but why do you need to be a glass half filled type of guy? This WC thing is happening, embrace it. You just might enjoy it when someone hits a walkoff.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Bullshit. Moneyball told me Scott Hatteberg, Rincon and getting on base won all those games dammit!
/still a great movie
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
What happens if the Yankees drop 2 to the Sox and Baltimore wins 2? The Yanks would have to trot out CC and then lose him for the ALDS.
I’d suggest the Yankees not lose 2 games to the AA roster Boston is putting out there this week. If they do, then they deserve to lose CC.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:14 AM
A more interesting scenario is what happens if Boston wins one and the Orioles win out? That situation actually benefits Baltimore because they don’t have an ace. The loser is in tough shape, though. Lose the division playoff, then potentially hop on a plane out west for another winner-take-all WC game that night.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Honest question, do a lot of politically active conservatives dislike Silver?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:15 AM

Baseball’s the perfect sport to just play an entire season and have a World Series with the best records from each league but that’s a quick way to make your league irrelevant in September if teams are running away with it so here we are
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:16 AM
You just might enjoy it when someone hits a walkoff.
You’re right. Could end up being a good thing. Not really spewing hate, yet I hope, just commenting on something that hasn’t happened yet. Which is always dangerous water.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Strike that and reverse it?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Which is why this year’s Pirates/Royals World Series will be EPIC!
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I think the Cowboys are a clone of the Bills more than the Jets… at least at QB.
JMAC – would you take Romo on the Jets? I think he might actually be good on that team next season if they pick him up as a free agent.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I mean yeah, that was part of it. Overall, though, Oakland drafted well and used baseball’s rights rules to secure a lot of young talent that they couldn’t afford once they hit free agency. The Rays are doing that now.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
A more interesting scenario is what happens if Boston wins one and the Orioles win out? That situation actually benefits Baltimore because they don’t have an ace. The loser is in tough shape, though. Lose the division playoff, then potentially hop on a plane out west for another winner-take-all WC game that night.
Do the Yankees have a head to head tiebreak with Baltimore?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:17 AM
reverse it? sure. strike it? that’s a little excessive.

They’d love him if his super accurate models showed Romney up big a month before the election. But since the facts show the opposite, he’s a hack.

What about the Rangers/A’s battle? Who would have thought the Rangers wouldn’t have clinched yet but might be battling for a Wild Card spot?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Baltimore does. They tied 9-9 but even if Baltimore loses out they’d still have the better AL East record (which wouldn’t matter because the Yankees would have already won the division in that scenario).
If they end up tied the division playoff is in Baltimore.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Honest question, do a lot of politically active conservatives dislike Silver?
The answer is mostly yes. The dislike is more for the regard for which he is held by the left. He is perfect for the NY Times. He tells their lefty readership what they want to hear. In the end his model picked one election right. An election that was pretty easy to pick. Presidential election models are garbage. Too many variables to ever get it right.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
i don’t think he’s ever released a poll that favors conservatives, and i don’t think he’s ever been wrong.
i think he did predict the midterm 2010 conservative victory, but he doesn’t skew the numbers to make their presidential nominees look good so they don’t like him.

Seeing stories about “Can you believe Lacey Chabert is this old already?!?!” is especially depressing since we share an exact birthday…visions of my mortality are all around these days
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Miz, what I meant was, in the old system, if the A’s or Orioles played well enough to make it they’d be guaranteed a fair shot. Now, the odds of making the “playoffs” have slightly increased but the chance of advancing is way down.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Alright, that tells me exactly what I needed to know. Thank you.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:24 AM
If they tie, Baltimore would have the tiebreaker and would host the game to decide the division. The loser goes and plays the 2nd wildcard team.

Seems mostly negative reaction in here about this. I actually think he’ll do a pretty good job. I don’t care much for Family Guy, but McFarlane is well-suited for something like the Oscars. I thought he was funny on SNL a couple of weeks ago, as long he wasn’t overdo the voices. He’s also been decent as the host of the CC Roasts.
Not a bad choice, IMO.

Yes, by using polls for his model that show Dem turnout greater than 2008 this race is over. News flash: If Dem turnout is greater than 2008 Obama will win. I will give you that. Problem is that has no way of happening.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:27 AM

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Someone saying that Silver’s model isn’t working right now because it says that Obama is going to win is clearly delusional. Romney is down in every poll that matters.

Misunderstood a conversation with a Yankee fan. He was saying that winning the last game was critical.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I’m pretty sure we can figure out how he will host:
at least 1 song and dance routine referencing obscure musicals from 50 years ago
slightly edgy jokes referencing celebrity in pop culture, most likely something about mark wahlberg’s horrible acting.
the Ted/Peter Griffen/Stewie voice will make an appearance, maybe even with a CGI Ted/Peter Griffen/Stewie on the stage with him.
the rest will be mostly inoffensive and mostly forgettable.

Sure, sure, the polls are biased. I’m sure he overlooked that or purposefully included biased polls to “protect his guy.”
Reputation is everything to someone in Silver’s profession. If he’s wrong, all his credibility disappears. Even if your crazy “left wing media conspiracy” bubble, Silver would have far more to gain by trying to be as accurate as possible than by artificially inflating his models to project an Obama win. You understand that, right?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
The economic issue in baseball isn’t that small market teams have no chance – they obviously do. The problem is that small market teams have to manage themselves almost perfectly in order to open a 3-5 year window to compete before they have to blow things up. On the other hand, the Yankees can make numerous mistakes in building their team and then just outspend those mistakes and make the playoffs every year anyway.
It’s great for the league when the Yankees do well and I don’t know that there is a great solution for the problem, but no one can argue that the Yankees are playing on a level playing field with the rest of the league when they have far more resources to work with than other teams. Perhaps it’s a problem that doesn’t need fixing, but I would think that the other teams in the AL East would grow weary of the situation.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:31 AM
dems are doing a pretty good job of scaring their base into what would happen if they don’t turn out and romney wins. i don’t think we’ve even seen the best either side can do with negative ads on their opponent, we should find out after this debate though.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Sure, sure, the polls are biased. I’m sure he overlooked that or purposefully included biased polls to “protect his guy.”
Here’s the thing though. Dems had an 8 point turnout advantage in 2008 with a messiah for a candidate and anger at the Republican party at an all-time high. And a Republican ticket that didn’t do much with GOTV. Now we have a Prez with approval under 50%, the two worst non-recession years ever, and a Republican ticket with equal money spending large dollars on GOTV. At what point do these pollsters question their turnout models? Ever?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Ha. That guy didn’t take it so well, did he…
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:36 AM
100 percent correct. They can survive injuries, bad signings, and poor managerial decisions because money makes all that disappear. Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis and Nolan Reimold — three of the Orioles’ best players — are all out for the season, and they have to win with guys like Nate McLouth and Taylor Teagarden. That’s not sustainable.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I’m late getting in this morning, but speaking of the MLB playoffs, I’d be in favor of eliminating divisions and eliminating interleague play. Take the top 3 teams from each division and let teams 4 and 5 battle it out in a best 2 of 3.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Also, the playoffs aren’t ideally designed to determine the best team. In fact, the long season tells us far more about which team is the best than the playoffs do. I think baseball should have a trophy like the NHL does with the President’s Trophy for the team with the best record during the regular season. It isn’t as prestigious as the Stanley Cup (obviously), but at least there’s recognition that there is a point to playing such a long season.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Do you really think Silver hasn’t taken any of that into account? Again, his sole focus is to be as accurate as possible. I’m sure he hears the same delusional right wing talking points that you’re regurgitating here.
All that stuff about Obama may be true (although its stunning lack of context renders it all moot), but you’re forgetting one thing: a lot of people really dislike Mitt Romney. You can think the president could do a better job and still vote for him because you believe the other guy would be far, far worse. That’s what’s happening here.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:39 AM
What makes you think that Republicans will make up the turnout gap considering that most Republicans think Romney is a terrible candidate? Throw in the fact that 47% of Americans are going to vote for Obama because they’re victims. All Obama needs is 4% of the non victims to vote for him in the key states.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
who will be the one to get banhammered this time around?
I don’t know anyone that can be that racist. He claimed to be a doctor who would no longer see black patients because Barry won. He was unhinged.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I would love for baseball to find a way to ape the Premier League round robin model.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:41 AM
a lot of polls have obama with 47-50% job approval, especially in the “battleground” states of OH, FL, WI… three states Romney would need to win at least 2 of to secure the victory.
it is, however, a good thing the GOP has such a charismatic candidate with sound policy ideas and a commanding knowledge of the details within those policies that can make those numbers irrelevant.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:43 AM
I think Dem turnout will be down from 2008 but higher than it would have been six months ago due to the true Romney being exposed time and time again. The GOP should still have an “enthusiasm gap” because they HATE the articulate black guy being in the chair and will vote for Romney just to get him out, but enough Dems will vote in key states that it won’t matter.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:44 AM
It is simply impossible for anyone to be “far, far worse” than Obama. Get real.

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
I was being facetious. But remember, I live in Central PA. The fact that he’s black matters to more than a few people I interact with. Granted, they’d probably hate anyone with a D next to their name, but race is mentioned in this particular case.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:47 AM
It’s a big fucking deal
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Here is what you all don’t understand. Conservatives are angry. They were in 2010 and still are. Silver suffers from “Group Think”. Gallup shows Republican’s with pretty substantial excitement to vote lead. At this point Conservatives aren’t voting for Romney so much as voting against Obama/Pelosi/Reid. And the more Silver and others say the race is over the better as far as I am concerned. It will hurt even more.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Romo will be a free agent, Sanchez will be paid $8.25 million from the jets whether he plays for them or not. (tannenbaum should be fired just for this contract clause)

What is this Tarbaby thing? Someone didn’t react well after the last election I take it?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Do votes from excited people count more than ones from people who will just vote? Its like a 3-to-1 ratio, right?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:50 AM
scratch that, Romo’s got two years left on his deal, but I think the Cowboys can cut him w/o a great cost to their cap number before next years salary hits which is like 11 million.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:51 AM
Gallup shows Republican’s with pretty substantial excitement to vote lead.
Da fuck is an excitement to vote?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
Regarding polls, at what point does it become the tail wagging the dog? I wonder how much they effect the outcome as well as predict the outcome. Take Romney/Obama out of this, I’m talking in general.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:52 AM
This baffles me. You seem to take more joy in the prospect of seeing the reaction of Obama supporters if he loses than the actual fact of Romney winning.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Gallup shows Republican’s with pretty substantial excitement to vote lead.
Da fuck is an excitement to vote?
I’m fascinated by these “all politics all the time” creatures. They have debate parties to watch their candidates spew talking points! So many of them out there. Seems like there are so many better options for hobbies out there that don’t turn you into an insufferable douche. Alas, it’s a free country.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Da fuck is an excitement to vote?
Voter enthusiasm. And no the votes don’t count more but it sure doesn’t translate to D+8 or D+10 or D+12 as many polls are showing. 2004 was R+1. If that happens again Romney wins.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
What Republicans are hoping will somehow make up for the fact that Romney is a terrible candidate with zero ideas except for the ideas that he ran away from because they were too moderate.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:53 AM
scratch that, Romo’s got two years left on his deal, but I think the Cowboys can cut him w/o a great cost to their cap number before next years salary hits which is like 11 million.
Romo’s deal is currently through 2016, but the last 3 years void themselves after this season. He’s only under contract this year and next, for real. Dallas has been actively trying to do an extension, because his cap number next year is huge. 16 million cap hit for like an 11 million salary.
I personally think he should become a FA and go QB a different team. I think that because of how much I like him. He doesn’t deserve what keeps happening to him. He doesn’t deserve Mackenzie Bernadeau.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Republicans are excited to vote against Obama. Especially in states like Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Idaho, Montana, South Carolina and Georgia…states that don’t matter in the slightest to the outcome of this election.
Excitement doesn’t matter. It’s still one vote. You know who was excited to vote in 2004? Democrats. They believed that the polls were biased. They just KNEW that no one could possibly vote for a failure of a president who got us into two wars with no way out. They figured the debates would change everything.
How’d that work out for them?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
I get that Republicans are angry, but doesn’t this really just mean that Romney will win already red states by a larger margin than before? There are plenty of angry Republicans in rural IL that will get out the vote, but it only means Obama will win the state by 45% instead of 50% or something.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Check out this interesting take on Romney.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
I jumped into a wave and got sucked out in an undertow about 30 metres (98ft in fat retard math) in stormy conditions. It 3am I was very drunk and could not tell which way was up. If I started treading water I would still be swimming.
That guy is proper fucked, if the undertow did not pin him to the sea floor he would have been thrown against the rocks, Darwin award finalist.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
I’m with Clayon. Romo is a good QB who just needs to GTFO of Dallas.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Do you think that overall his race hurt or helped him in 2008?
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:57 AM
Helped, without question. He would have won anyway because he was a movement, but yes, it certainly helped him.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:58 AM
They start to affect the outcome (probably already started in this year’s race) mostly because the party members down the ticket start to run away from the candidate. It’s not a good thing for a candidate when in the local debates/ads the local candidates try to distance themselves from policy of the presidential candidate.
It probably doesn’t affect that many regular people because they don’t pay enough attention to the info.
October 2nd, 2012 at 9:59 AM
I’ve been seeing this everywhere (and granted, it happens on both sides). It’s not about Romney. Very few people — liberal, conservative or rational — like Mitt Romney as a candidate or person. As an antithesis to Obama, however, he’s a lot more palatable in conservatives’ eyes. They seem him as the mechanism to “take their country back” from, uh, whoever has stolen it.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:00 AM
he’s like a better version of ryan fitzpatrick. i can’t help but wonder what he would be like on a team that really could effectively and consistently run the ball. I just don’t know what teams out there that could use a QB like him.
Arizona? Jags? Titans?

Cowboys: Struggling starting QB and former Bronco QB as the backup
Jets: Overrated Ryan Brother coaching
Cowboys: Overrated Ryan Brother coaching

I got polled recently (no coop) and the robot asked a whole lot of questions, and made me listen to all the choices before I could pick. Like literally 20 questions. I feel like the pollster robot left with a pretty good idea of who I was and what I was actually going to do on election day.
I feel like an unlikely voter would have hung up, too.

I’d seriously be interested to know how many people will vote AGAINST Obama because he’s black and how many will vote FOR him because he’s black. Based on a highly anecdotal study completed by me, it appears to be the latter.

it’s impossible to predict, really. And you can’t just swap them out or anything. And Dallas is probably going to lock him up anyway, so he can continue to get pounded and scape goated for every loss.

that’s true, a defense good enough to take pressure of the QB having to make things happen, decent running game, good WR/TE combo
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:03 AM
But how enthusiastic were you? The more excited you are, the more votes you get.
Gallup called me a bunch of times last month but I was travelling and didn’t have time to get back to the pollster. They don’t leave messages. The only reason I knew it was Gallup is because I called the number back. Anyway, I was bummed because I wanted to learn what questions they asked and how the process worked.

October 2nd, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Kansas City. Cassell, Romeo, and Pioli are done here.
That team needs a complete re-boot. Start completely over, hit rock bottom this year and next year, and rebuild. Because…. WOOF.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:05 AM
The only thing about San Fran is that they’re successful largely because they play a clean offensive game. Romo has a propensity for turnovers. That defense could absorb a lot of the mistakes but that’s the one downside I could see there. Still an upgrade over Smith.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:05 AM
I’d seriously be interested to know how many people will vote AGAINST Obama because he’s black and how many will vote FOR him because he’s black. Based on a highly anecdotal study completed by me, it appears to be the latter.
I don’t think that any of the people who would do the former would give voice to it, whether they are doing it or not. They’d have some other reason. Because he loves gays, because he’s a secret muslim, whatever.
And I don’t think (in your anecdotal study) that you’d take any other answer from any black person in america than the latter.
So I think your study is flawed.

KCs defense is OK. That side of the ball can survive. Offensively, though? Yikes.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:06 AM
You couldn’t be more wrong. I know that its just the “truth” for the Right that being black was a great help, because of all those other black presidents. But, it just didn’t, it actually hurt..
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:07 AM
I knew it!!!
Hadn’t considered that possibility.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Again, how enthusiastic were you? Choad? Half a chub? Details.
/cooped?
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:07 AM
KCs defense is OK.
They’ve given up 40, 35, 24, and 37 points. If that’s “OK” I’d like to see “bad.”
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:08 AM
I’d seriously be interested to know how many people will vote AGAINST Romney because he’s Mormon and how many will vote FOR him because he’s Mormon. Based on a highly anecdotal Utah study completed by me, it appears to be the latter.
The thing about lazy partisan points is that they work both ways without any effort at all.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Romeo Crennel’s appetite is ok. The Chiefs defense is not.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
I thought the Jets were so far under the cap they were throwing money around Daddy Warbucks style?
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:09 AM
I’m not sure his methodology holds up.
Obama got a lot of people to the polls who would have never come out for anyone else. That had to outweigh racist white people, especially in swing states.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Me revealing the results of my own study is considered “lazy partisan points”?
/I didn’t actually conduct a study
//You seriously thought I did?
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:13 AM
i just want to know who White Mike Vick will vote for.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:15 AM
They played the Falcons, Bills, Saints and Chargers, the 3, 6, 10 and 14th scoring offenses in the NFL. The defense is also frequently placed in poor positions due to the inept offense.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:15 AM
at some point, Chiefs fans are going to get tired of hitting rock bottom every 2 or 3 years.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:17 AM
Gary Johnson
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:17 AM
so what you’re saying is, no matter who they play, they pretty much suck? got it.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Not even going to comment on your including the Bills there, and the Chargers had scored, 22, 10, and 3 points before they dropped 37 on KC. The Saints are also 0-4. It’s okay to admit when you’re wrong ever once in awhile queefer. Jesus.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Seth McFarlane is still funnier than every woman alive though.

PA court just struck down the voter ID law. Looks like PA is off the Romney table.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Not even going to comment on your including the Bills there
Why would you comment? They’re the No. 6 offense in the league.
LOL. Okay. The Bills were one of the teams that dropped at least 35 points on that “OK” KC defense of yours. That’s the most points they’ve scored all year by 7. You don’t think that has something to do with their amazing offensive ranking after 4 games of SIXTH ZOMG!!
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Excellent, because requiring someone to show a valid photo ID before voting is way out of bounds.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:28 AM
wonder if this will have impact in other states that just enacted their own laws as well
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Lacey Chabert
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:29 AM
WOOOOO
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
The way it was written is absolutely out of bounds and the legal experts and more importantly SC judges agree.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
you’re right, but it would probably be easier if we just count all low income minorities in urban areas as 3/5 of a normal vote rather than target them with voter id laws… right?
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Good or “OK” defenses are the ones that don’t give up 35 points to Good or “OK” offenses.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Student ID does not work but an NRA license does? C’mon man, that shit be way anti-democratic. They are not even trying to hide it. You are cheering for cheaters, remember what happened to your country that last time an election was stolen, 8 years of face-palming.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Also, the KC Chiefs are 2nd to last in the league in PPG allowed. Behind only Tennessee. But, OK!
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:36 AM
I hope that the people who support all the new voter ID laws have to one day rush to the hospital to visit a dying parent, but then realize they left the license at home and the hospital won’t let them in the room, and then their mother dies thinking that their child has abandoned them, and then they put a bullet through their brain like the warden in Shawshank. Not too much to ask.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Yeah, the PA law was a joke. When GOP reps stand up in meetings and say the law will deliver PA for Romney, there’s a problem.
The judge said there wasn’t enough time to enact the law before the election, which is what led to its removal. It will exist in some fashion before 2016.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:39 AM
It’s obvious from your attempt to make a point that you’re clueless as to the origin of the whole 3/5 human tale.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Because they played good offenses…
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Yeah it will exist in a way that it’s actually feasible and cheap to get the proper IDs.
You should not have to pay money to vote. I find that idea farce beyond belief.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:40 AM
I don’t know anyone that can be that racist. He claimed to be a doctor who would no longer see black patients because Barry won. He was unhinged.
Oh shit, really? That’s what happened? I’d forgotten.

Dammit, I was hoping to stay out of politics Tuesday, but now I really want to hear Professor Chitwood on the 3/5ths compromise.

OH NO. This should be good.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Dude, move on. It’s already been established here today that Republicans are the ones who are angry, now I’m beginning to wonder.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Not to defend Jimmy Chitwood here but the 3/5 thing is very often misconstrued as meaning “we only saw blacks as part of a human.” It was just a compromise in determining population numbers for delegate purposes as the north only wanted free peoples to count toward delegates – that is, your slaves aren’t free, so why should you get more delegates because of their presence?
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Good that this was repealed. With GOPers having their enthusiastic votes count or two or three, the Dems need corpses and IP Freely to turn out in force.

\\Anyone care to discuss the “Orginal Sin” as it relates to the Constitution?

masturbation is in the Constitution? huh…learn something new every day.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Right. Blacks were seen as below humans.

It is the glue that holds this country together.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:52 AM

October 2nd, 2012 at 10:54 AM
People mistakenly assume that the racist southerners wanted to count the freed slaves as only 3/5 of a human being, thereby de-humanzing them. In actuality, the folks from the northern states pushed to count them as less than a whole person in order to minimize the official population of the southern states. People nowadays equate 3/5 with racists, but they are ignorant about it’s origination.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:59 AM
That’s wrong too, though.
Originally it started with the AoC, the north wanted to include slaves in population terms for determining the tax burden of each colony. The southern colonies bugged, so the north suggested 3/4 and the south suggested 1/2, Madison suggested 3/5, but the amendment ended up dying anyway.
So it started with the south wanting them to count for half a person when counting them would be to their detriment, and then upping the number when it would count to their advantage. Saying the northen states “pushed to count them as less than a who person” is laughable. They saw no reason to give a non voting population a count in determining the representation that a population would get. If the slaves couldn’t vote, didn’t make sense for the south to benefit from their numbers.
You ignant.
October 2nd, 2012 at 10:59 AM
right, and the slaves only counted as 3/5 of a vote when election time came around. then when they were freed and the 3/5 compromise was ended voter disenfranchisement targeting the poorly educated former slaves and low income poor minorities to make it more difficult to vote came about until the voting rights act of 1965 made it illegal to do so. what we are seeing with voter ID laws is a thinly veiled attempt to prevent a certain group of citizens who historically vote for a certain party an easy way to vote.
am i against voter ID, if it’s free and the federal gov’t sends out ID’s and creates a non partisan review board to handle disputes at the election booths when a citizen comes without an ID, preserving the right to vote all US citizens have without disenfranchizing voters with laws that make it more difficult to vote? Yes i am. will that happen b/c voting is considered a state responsibility? no, so i’m against it as states will do this kind of shit to deliver votes for their party, either dem or republican.
and before you state it, yes i know southern democrats were just as responsible for the segregation and voter disenfranchisement pre 1965 and even later thanks to strom thurmond and his ilk.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Those same type of southern democrats are now Republicans.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Let’s just say the counting of slaves by both sides was 100% driven by motives of power and money and there was no altruism involved by other side and leave it at that.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Honest question – you think the average Republican of today is virtually the same as the southern Dems of yesteryear?
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Do I think that the Dixiecrat agenda of pro-segregation and opposition to civil rights is alive and well in many aisles of the republican party? Yes I do. The average republican? Hell no.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Average Republican, no. The people that voted in the Dixiecrats and now vote solidly Republican in the very Red State South, absolutely. This is why I think the Republican party is in a lot of trouble as a national party. Too many different groups with different agendas under one party.
October 2nd, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Political Tuesday! Awesome!
Let’s debate which moron can lead our country better … the one that’s a waffling weiner who’s proven he can’t or the one that’s a dick and has proven nothing.
Yay! (fading party horn sound)
