Richard Matheson is awesome, although I’ve not read his book.
In the book it ends with him killing himself upon the realization that he is the bad guy, not the vampires.

The 1964 movie version with Vincent Price is more faithful to the book, and not bad overall. The kids today might find it a little creaky, though.
