I just fell into a wikipedia worm hole and learned that Arnold Rothstein was shot dead in 1928. That’s 5 years from when this season’s premiere opened, but at least it’s in the ballpark.

Only thing I saw him lead in was “Trees Lounge” and he wrote and direct it. That was okay.

i think he can be a lead, but the show painted itself into a corner by not going ‘alternate history’ route right from the start. had they introduced al capone and then he got killed after an episode or two, for example, that’s a whole lot of directions the show can go in and you know there won’t be any “safe” characters from real life.

so they keep me interested until Treme starts.
