Gotta go with Trey on this one. Minor violation = minor punishment. If you will suspend your vehement support of paying the players and blowing up the NCAA, you may recognize that a clearly defined rule – one which these coaches get told EVERY year – was broken and an appropriate punishment was given. Don’t like it? Blow up the NCAA. However, you can’t cherrypick which rules get followed.

That’s kind of the point. The likelihood of being caught appears to be basically nil. But I think it’s just the mundane nature of reporting any breach of protocol to the compliance office rather than paranoia.

ok. that’s some quality paranoia on the TO person’s part. Try to imagine how the violation would be discovered if no snitching.

Even if someone from the crowd snitches and the ncaa wants to ask the TO how this could happen, the ticket seller could say Mike who?

here’s my conspiracy theory: ticket seller had an ax to grind with bobo or the fb program

Yeah poorly written. I just mean, it seems like such a minor thing to snitch about, the only explanation is that the ticket office knows the NCAA takes this sort of thing seriously and didn’t want to get in trouble, so they reported it to the compliance office.

I think that’s the part of the story that makes it so obvious why there shouldn’t have been a post on this. This seems to be a pretty standard process for handling the violation (including the minor punishment).

If you have an idea for how the NCAA could amend its rules and procedures to exempt minor infractions like this, then how about a post on that. I think you will find though that writing rules that cover exactly the situations you want them to cover, and only those situations, is harder than you might think.
