Ed Hochuli Will Referee the Bengals-Jaguars Game, Probably to Try and Stimulate Interest in That Snoozer
According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Most Popular Referee in the NFL, Ed Hochuli, aka, Eddie Muscles, has been assigned the scintillating Bengals/Jaguars game Sunday. On an afternoon with a plethora of snoozers – among the 1 pm and 4 pm games, there’s only one matchup that involves two teams with winning records – Bengals at Jaguars might be the worst. How bad? According to these coverage maps at 506.com, Cincinnati and Jacksonville will probably be seen by the fewest number of viewers in the country. Miami (1-2) and Arizona (3-0) won’t be seen (thankfully) by many folks, either.
Marv Albert and Rich Gannon have the call, and since Marvelous will be hurting for material, , there will probably be at least half a dozen riffs on Hochuli.

A referee is going to stimulate interest in an NFL game, huh? I thought the whole role of the referee was not to notice them unless there’s an infraction? And what is the obsession with Ed Hochuli all of a sudden?

Agreed. I have interest in the end result, as that is one of the games on my cards for this week. But even if I wasn’t going to be at work, I wouldn’t watch that game if it was on.

Hochuli isn’t the best official in the league. He has a MASSIVE fuck up on his resume. Nice guy, and he’s famous because of his large guns, but Mike Carey is much better, IMO.

I loved Mike Carey. He always got extra enthused anytime a holding/PI call was made on the defense. “Pass interference…. DEEEEE-fense…”

I feel like a referee fantasy league is close…
Also a fan of Carey…but don’t sleep on Corrente or Triplette. I can’t see Boger going early, but I like his value late.

Hochuli will direct the flow of this game with his shirt off, like that bodybuilder directing traffic in that TV commercial.

good call by NFL. very important to keep a horrible ref like Hochuli away from games that are worth a damn.

Why the shot at Arizona? They have a pretty fun team if you don’t count the average QB play. Certainly more interesting than a lot of teams. Miami on the other hand…

Elbow, its more of a shot at miami than arizona

Yea kind of like how everyone else including you was shitting all over the Cardinals a few weeks ago now you can’t get enough of their defense.
