It’s also a lot more entertaining than Notre Dame. Best new show of the Fall so far, IMO.

My belittlement didn’t mean for me to say it wasn’t a big game. I mainly think, though, that it’s been made into that “big game” status primarily because of the media and mostly recently. What’s happened in the rivalry the last 10-15 years doesn’t hold a candle to the quality of the late 80s/early 90s and that’s the attention that it’s still getting.

I think that the way that both programs have treated the rivalry over the years has backed this up – multiple hiatuses (as early as 10 years ago they didn’t play for two straight years_, not that many meetings, etc. Neither program would ever disband games with Ohio State (UM) or USC (ND).

I do all the yardwork, do the dishes and run errands so that I can watch football on Sundays and hockey if it ever comes back. On Sundays, the roommate leaves me alone.

Hmm let’s see, they’ve played 40 times which is nothing by a college football rivalry standard. They’ve also taken multiple breaks between playing the games, as well. The rivalry is “so great” that they’ve decided to cancel it. Truly great!

In terms of games, there was the Rocket Ismail games 89/90, and the tie that wasn’t even as notable as the UF-FSU tie. Recently, the rivalry has featured such memorable performances by Tate Forcier(!!) and Denard Robison in 2010 when both teams blew ass.

2011 was a great game, but mostly a cripple fight. I’d love to hear more about the rivalry returning to glory.

I guess another notable feature of the rivalry is that both teams have decided to bastardize their uniform’s traditions in them in recent seasons.

Much like New England vs. the Jets, the ND-Michigan “rivalry” mostly seems to have been a media creation. I can only think of a couple of memorable moments, and each team has a much more highly publicized rivalry with a better program / opponent.
