Matt Schaub Took a Punishing Hit From Joe Mays, and His Helmet Flew Off
Matt Schaub survived this hit, and actually entered the game after missing just one play. (That must have been a quick concussion test, huh?) Three Broncos converged on the Houston QB, with Joe Mays delivering the hardest (cheapest?) shot. Upon multiple viewings, it clearly is a helmet-to-helmet shot, and Mays will be fined heavily. Schaub’s helmet flies off and he’s left on the ground holding his head. His ear was bloodied. It really is amazing he missed just one play.

Mr. Mays should expect a FedEx delivery from the league this week

Terry Bradshaw once took a hit like that, and his IQ improved by 20 points.

Had to pick between Vick and Shaub today, I made the right choice. Also picked up the Card’s D, another wise choice. It reminds me of this on beat I had in poker…

After Holiday getting leveled before allowed an attempt at a punt and these 2 back to back penalties the officials should have ejected this guy. Both benches should have been warned and more control is absolutely needed. They just seemed like blatant attempts at causing injury.
I thought this was the kind of crap that they didn’t want to happen anymore; this whole player safety schtick Goodell has been pushing.

apparently, not enough viewings to still get it right…he hit Schaub in the chest

He’ll get fined anyway. Dear Leader Goodell cares more about appearances than getting things right.

Apparently Schaub lost a piece of his ear on this hit. I don’t have a joke for that. That’s pretty freaking hardcore.

Hitting someone helmet first, which Mays clearly did, is always illegal.
Details, details…

You are wrong. He hits him in the chin, helmet makes contact with the bottom of the facemask, knocks the helmet off.

You can’t give a guy an uppercut with the helmet. Just as illegal as a head shot.

This is why the players want huge pensions. The game is becoming more and more worried about the safety of the player and for someone to put a completely unnecessary hit on a defenseless quarterback is wrong. It was a punishing hit, and it seemed like it was intentionally to hurt him. The Broncos lack discipline and are a disgrace to the game.
