Urban Meyer: Braxton Miller is More Talented Than Tim Tebow
You’ve heard the argument that Tim Tebow made Urban Meyer, right? (The counter argument: Meyer won at Bowling Green before he got to Gainesville.) Tebow and Meyer combined to win two titles at Florida – Timmy was the backup QB as a freshman, getting in on the action inside the 10-yard line – and once the 2nd best winner* in the sport over the last 30 years left for the NFL, Meyer hasn’t had nearly as much success.
But he’s got an exciting dual-threat QB now in Braxton Miller, and Meyer told a radio station that Miller is more talented that Tebow.
“Very similar guys. They’re both competitive human beings. They’re both very talented people. Braxton has more talent. Tim is probably more of a grinder.”
If I’m a reporter at the next Meyer press conference, I ask the coach: “Could you define talent?” Not saying I disagree with the Miller > Tebow talent assessment, I just think it’s a very vague term in this instance. Talent throwing? As a drop back passer? Running? As an athlete? Tebow the grinder will take 50 extra reps a day, while Miller and his talent are the last on the field and first off it? Do people really doubt this? Frazier was one of the most ludicrously good college players ever.

What? You don’t remember the BCS Bowl(s?) at Utah?
September 21st, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I’ve never, ever heard this argument. Urban took Utah to a BCS game, and won a BCS title without Me-First Tim Tebow.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Meyer’s probably right. Miller’s a freakish athlete who has the potential to be better than Tebow in every way, running, throwing, maybe not goalline fullback. The grinder refers to the fact that Tebow was able to get every ounce of talent he had out.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Urban Meyer made Alex Smith the #1 overall draft pick. Tebow didn’t “make” Urban Meyer”. You can pass it off as a joke, whatever, but at some point saying stupid shit just isn’t funny.

Cam Newton was also on that Florida team, and it’s as clear as day he was basically a faster and better passing Tim Tebow. So I think Urban would have been just fine if he didn’t have Timmy, since he would of kept Cam if he was the starter even if he jacked a few laptops.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:27 PM
Echoing others: absolutely not heard that.
Not shocked if someone HAS made that point though, you got any links? Would love to read that retardation.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:28 PM
It would be nice to have a job where if you say or do something stupid, you could just fall back on “it’s a joke guys, and if you don’t get it I can’t help you.”
September 21st, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Cam Newton also appears to be not smart enough to master an NFL offense…
/just sayin

/ OT
Don’t know if this came up in the political haranguery of the Roundup this morning, but TBL now has its own presidential ticket: SROD/Sousedbergin 2012. We nominated them last night in TBLAD.
Scripty is campaign manager. Vez is media handler (although he wasn’t there and may not be aware of this).
Send all campaign contributions to Nada.

Looks like I have the closing line for my next committee meeting.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:30 PM
nada IS my campaign contribution.

IIRC, Meyer counseled the Niners against drafting Alex Smallhands at No. 1, saying he was system QB who was not a good fit for the NFL.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Lisa Lampinelli has made a successful career off this.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:32 PM
So uh … how’s that “Soused isn’t an American citizen” aspect going to play in the sticks?
September 21st, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Is Tommie Frazier still not in the college football hall of fame?
September 21st, 2012 at 12:32 PM
I don’t agree with all of the people saying Alex Smith is better than Aaron Rodgers…but that’s just me. Let’s go to Pete from Parsippany on line one.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:32 PM
TBL is a Lisa Lampinelli fan.

But is Braxton more celibate? More beloved by Jesus? More shirtless?
I do not think so.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:34 PM
He’s from America Jr. That’s close enough.

“All of the people” need to be put down now before they can breed. I have personally never heard this argument and think it’s hilarious.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:36 PM
This is a joke right? In order to “remember” something, you have to be aware of it in the first place.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:36 PM

The first order of business for the SROD/Soused White House will be to annex Canada and make Rush’s “Fly By Night” the new national anthem of the reworked USA.
/ SROD would prefer “Hold the Line,” but that’s just his Toto delerium talking
September 21st, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Or when accounting for the cold weather, “America’s ushanka.”
September 21st, 2012 at 12:39 PM
If a song by Rush became the national anthem, I really would consider moving to Europe.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Hi Babar… long time/first time. I just wanted to remind you that you can’t spell “Elite” without “Eli”, and that by beating a clearly-overmatched young quarterback last night in a mid-week game, the GINTS have established themselves as the best team in the NFC.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Can vouch for that!
September 21st, 2012 at 12:41 PM
I think he’s making a joke… as in TBL likes to invent a crazy argument, then write a post about how the argument is wrong, when no one actually held such fictitious view in the first place.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:44 PM
“All of the people” need to be put down now before they can breed. I have personally never heard this argument and think it’s hilarious.
lately everybody’s been talking about Nate Jensen, and his beef with all the people. You guys know where I stand. Whadda you think? Let’s take a few calls.

September 21st, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Yeah, Clay, thanks for taking my call, love your show. I just want to make a quick point, and then I’ll hang up and take your response off line. I think Jensen is way out of line here. I mean, what does he do for a living? That’s what I want to know. Thanks.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Braxton can’t throw a lick. Saw him against UCF and he was horrible. Tim was not as bad a thrower but he made plays with both his arm and legs. Braxton is a one-trick pony, he’s got moves, but key on him and make him throw to beat ya, you got the win right there.
September 21st, 2012 at 12:51 PM
This made me laugh.

September 21st, 2012 at 12:52 PM
While that may be true, he’s far more gifted than Tim physically and is getting by on that now.

Geno for Heisman 2012!
September 21st, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Yeah. Actually I think it was the other way around now that I think of it. I believe the Flutie Argos were handily winning….and Frazier came in as did the Argo second QB….some other Heisman winner. I think it was a big deal to have three Heisman QB”s in a game. Forget who he was now
September 21st, 2012 at 1:03 PM
I’ve never seen anyone here say that.
September 21st, 2012 at 1:04 PM
If you can’t find the humor in that comment, I don’t know what to tell you.
September 21st, 2012 at 1:08 PM
I’m no good humor man. Too busy organizing SROD/Soused 2012.
September 21st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
Surely we can find some compromise. How about a Neil Peart drum solo as national anthem?
September 21st, 2012 at 1:09 PM
dammit. Who was the other QB in that game? Flutie’s back up in 1996….he won the Heisman too and also played for the Detroit Lions a bit.
September 21st, 2012 at 1:10 PM
