Spectators in Iran pelted the pitch with trash and objects, not unlike the scene in Azteca. Watch, terrifyingly, as a player picks up an object – which is actually a grenade – and casually tosses it off the field. Less than a second after it leaves his hand, the grenade explodes. [via Adam]

Wow … watching the player’s reaction it’s as if he didn’t even realize what he tossed to the side caused the explosion. So wonder if it was a timing device, or did the impact of the toss cause the explosion?

This is not a fragmentation grenade or percussion grenade or stun grenade. This is probably some form of low grade chemical or gas grenade. You can clearly see they are unharmed and if anything they are covering their mouths/noses because of the chemical/gas. Granted, you certainly wouldn’t want that thing going off in your hand.

Not really.
He didn’t play very well. He had one birdie and one bogey. Shot a 72. It was his first time to play the course. There were four of us in his group and the pro-am tourney was a shamble. We could use his score but not his drive, though I played well (and had a shitty group) and we used my drive/tee shot on 16 of 18 holes. Plus we were only playing from the blues which were 30 yds ahead of the tips on a bunch of holes.
I bet that guy turns it around today and shoots a 67 or something awesome.

He was probably 310 off the tee, easy, but clearly wasn’t happy with his swing as he didn’t hit a whole lot of fairways. The noticeable difference was a) how deliberate he was with every swing and b) how pure he hit all of his irons. His deal yesterday was that par was never out of the question for him. Even when he was in trouble off the tee box, he’d get back to having an 8′ (or less) par putt and he drained every single one.
Distance wise, I hit my driver 280-300 so I wouldn’t be too far back of him if we were playing the same tees. But on a couple holes, where he was hitting a 9 iron in, I was hitting a gap wedge because of where my tees were and where our tee shots ended up. I had 2 kick-in birdies setup by two different 110 yd shots and I missed two birdie putts from 10′. The pro wasn’t sticking his scoring irons and missed several 10-12′ foot birdie putts.

We talked about that. Remember I got those MP-59′s a month or so ago. He was playing MP 68s and told me he had been playing Mizunos since he was 14. We were both hitting Taylor Made woods/driver and he had some cool looking hybrid/rescue thing he used when he had a bad lie in the rough. I can’t remember what it was (beers) but I need one for when our Bermuda rough is up. That club got down after it and it still knuckle balled out, but it traveled a lot further than when I tried the same with a 4-iron.

party…ooo mp68′s are some pretty clubs.
and the hybrid/rough thing kinda has me thinking lately about ditching any irons above a 4. can replace 5w/3i/4i with a 18 and 22 and add an extra wedge. that 200ish yard shot out of rough with a hybrid is such a lifesaver and the more forgiveness at that distance the better. cool isnight…much appreciated.

We were right next to each other in the rough off the tee box on a long par-5. He hit that sucker and I remember asking him about it. It rifled out, rolled about 220 and he had 80yds left. He put it to 8′ or so and missed his birdie putt.
Meanwhile I used a 4-iron, the club face turned over and my ball only went about 160yds. I had to hit an 8 or 9-iron into the wind and it went just long. Chipped it up, made par, but his better second shot gave him the birdie opp.
