I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Veruca Salt. It might be connected to a not so soft spot elsewhere. Just sayin’.

The Orioles do not give a fuck. Cant wait to they get stuck is Selig’s moronic one-game wild-card playoff and lose in extras, which is inevitable at this point.

iOS 6 is fine. I have a 4 so I dont get navigation or Siri updates, but the Facebook integration is OK and the DND feature is cool. Had Samsung or Windows come out with an update this lame, though, Apple cultists would be going crazy.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:19 AM
Taken out of context, this is hella pedo-riffic.

The Cincinnati Red story was a great read. I have a friend with Downs and he has the same personality as the batboy- never has a bad day.

September 20th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
iPhone 5, iOS 6, basically re-hash of the same shit. AAPL is way overvalued now (though it’s now the most widely held stock for long-only funds and hedgies, but it’s a long-term sell — the best of this company is in their rear view).
September 20th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
But seriously, Volcano Girls was so awesome. Never got tired of belting that out when I was 13-14.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
Siri sucks. Maps suck. iMessage across devices is decent. Some of the iCloud backup shit is ok.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Meh. I hate how apple is making the iPhone 4 obsolete by not offering siri or turn by turn navigation. I jailbroke mine and put both on it though. And accessing the new app store from your iPhone sucks dick.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
Shitty map thing aside, all I read on Twitter last night was IOS 6 was causing everyone problems with connecting to wifi. So, someone let me know when that’s rectified and then maybe I’ll update.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
Apple basically just caught up, both in terms of hardware and software, of where every other leading smartphone manufacturer has been for six months. Apple needs a new product line.
Or maybe they dont. Apple zombies bought 2 million iPhone 5s already. So what do I know?
September 20th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
I love the updated New God Flow with Tony Starks on it, sans Kanye’s last ‘verse’.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
I updated iPhone 4s last night and have had zero problems. Facebook app didn’t show up but I don’t have FB, only Twitter, so not a big deal. Maps are fine. I like the audible navigation.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Turn wifi off, then turn it back on.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
I bought an iPhone 4 for a dollar last weekend because I had an upgrade and didn’t feel like dropping $100 on the HTC One X. Its quite obvious why they didnt give the 4 Siri — there’d be no reason whatsoever to buy the 4s for $100 — but its still another dick movie by a company that has mastered the craft. Going from Android back to iOS is a painful experience.
Thinking about jailbreaking to get Siri but I’m worried about bricking the phone.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
So, I’m a moron. Apparently there is no Facebook app, just integrated through various apps. Wish they would do this with Twitter.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Apple doesn’t do bleeding edge hardware. They never have. Apple is about the user experience and having the best, easiest ecosystem. They still do, though the gap is much smaller.
If having the best hardware was the most important thing to you, you would never buy an iPhone. To most people it isn’t, though.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Shoot, I thought we were talking about this Veruca Salt, she was a bitch! Glad she went down the Eggdicator.
/sorry, first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this
//personally, I liked Seether
September 20th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
I’d be buying Apple until $1,000…that’s the psychological mark. After that, then you can get out of the position. The Asian markets are eating up Apple products (almost 100% revenue growth from Asia excluding Japan since Q4-09 (Sept. 09) )

Nokia was the global leader of smartphone shipments as late as a couple of years ago. Palm used to be a player. Look at what’s happened to BlackBerry. In technology today, change might take a while to build momentum, but when it hits that critical inflection point, it’s largely too late.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
They have the easiest ecosystem as long as everything you own is Apple. I can’t just plug my iPhone into a different computer and load files. I have to sync it, then authorize the computer, then pull everything into iTunes to make sure the file is supported. Its such a pain in the dick.
My rooted Nook Tablet mounts to any PC as an external drive. I just drag anything I want over like a normal human. Amazing how much easier the process is.
I like the 4 a lot more than I thought I would (last iPhone I had was a 3Gs and I gladly booted it for Android) but there are still some uniquely Apple problems that I guess I’ll just have to deal with.

September 20th, 2012 at 8:39 AM
I’ve never owned anything by Apple that I didn’t jailbreak, and I have an iPad and an AppleTV. It’s almost impossible to brick your phone jailbreaking in this day in age though. It’s a bitch to correct if you get stuck in a boot loop though.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:40 AM

September 20th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
I dont know that I want to take the risk just for Siri. If hackers play around and find that its easy to do with the iOS 6 update, I’ll probably give it a shot. You’re right about the simplicity these days, though: rooting the Nook was easy as shit, and XDA already figured out how to root the Fire HD.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
I remember buying there “blow it out your ass it’s veruca salt” EP and listening to this song over and over again a millennium ago.

/unscuccessfully tried to trade computer games with a PC friend when we rocked the Apple IIGs in 1986
September 20th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Ha. I am by no means saying everything Apple does is better. Shit, I’ve never had an iPhone as my primary phone. Apple is probably still further ahead in marketing than they are ahead in anything else.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
this is the first apple product in a long time where my reaction is “meh”, in terms of wanting to get it.
Windows 8 phone for me next, i need something different. I don’t use many apps as it is, so the appstore doesn’t matter.
iPhone 5 looks great, though. and DND is a great idea. otherwise… ‘Meh”
September 20th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Yeah, no doubt. They’re amazing at it. So good that they get people to fork over $200 every year for a phone they don’t need.
I will say this, though: the jump from the 3Gs to the 4 is probably the biggest evolutionary step in their history, a legit must-have upgrade that would have been worth it at twice the price.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
You probably don’t, it still kinda sucks. I ditched my 3gs for a rooted android too, but I couldn’t take the incompatibility between hardware and software and went back to Apple. The cohesiveness combined with the extensive jailbreak community it offers makes it unlikely I’ll abandon Apple for the time being.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:47 AM

HTC announced some new Windows phones yesterday (or the day before, I don’t remember). Don’t look as good as the Lumia, but might have more availability.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Makes sense. I bought a calendar app that syncs fine with my Google Calendar. And I can open apps with my fingers like a normal human. The only thing I really wish they had updated was the navigation. Oh well, hopefully when Google’s Maps app hits the store in a few weeks, that will be included.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
The Reds batboy article was awesome.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
yeah, both look nice, what i saw of the Lumia 920 and the HTC 8x is the camera is the big difference. and maybe the price? who knows what that will be.
i like the interface of Windows 8, it feels fresh and where a phone should be the same way iOS felt that way with the first iPhone.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
That Veruca Salt EP was awesome.

I’ve got a G. Note and an iPhone 4S, and I swear I ended up forwarding all of my calls to my Note. Haven’t turned on the iPhone in about 3 months. My wife still uses an iPhone (can’t go back to that puny screen).
September 20th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I know, right?
September 20th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I could really give a shit about what kind of stuff is on my phone, as long as it works, provides me with some entertainment every once in a while, and doesn’t give me headaches. I’m guessing people that are bitching about Siri have never had it, but it is quite over-rated. if I use it once a month, that is a lot. it’s pretty useless, unless you enjoy not typing a text, but having to say it 8 times before it is written correctly.

Cortland Finnegan loves the replacement refs. Of course he does. What a dick. I’d say he deserves a spot on the 1970s Raiders but no way is he good enough to make that team.

Speaking of iPhone, just got a Lifeproof case for my iPhone 4, thing is badass. A bit pricy, but I think it’ll be a great investment as protection from my 2 year old.

So what do you iPhone 5 complainers want your new phone to do, wipe your ass for you? From all I’ve read its 10 times faster, lighter and better looking, which sounds good to me. I mean at some point we need to realize it is a phone and there is only so much more it is capable of doing, right?

Anybody got any recommendations on a good, mid-sized family sedan? The Accord, Avalon/Camry, and Fusion are all contenders, just wondering if there was anything else we should be looking at. Mileage is a big factor but I don’t want to go too small either.
I’ll hang up and listen. Thanks.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
I’d like to get back to talking about Salma. For somebody who’s done so little worthhile outside of 1 good movie (Desperado) and 2 minor spots (Dogma, Dusk til Dawn) she gets a free pass due to that great body. Deservedly.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Complaining about the iOS 6 update is becoming the new complaining about a bad poker beat or your fantasy football team.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
I think the issue is the disconnect between the capabilities and the drooling. The iPhone 5 is Tebow: a lot of attention for a pretty average thing.
Yes, its faster, a few grams lighter and a few millimeters thinner with a bigger screen. OK, neat. There are a dozen smartphones out there right now with the same shit. Apple is partly a victim of their own innovation because they changed the game so drastically and quickly that a mere upgrade is seen as disappointing, and I understand that’s not fair in a lot of ways. But Apple needs to understand that if they want to be the big dog and they flaunt ordinary updates as world-changing innovations, a lot of people are going to call them on it.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Wasn’t she naked for a millisecond in Desperado?

September 20th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Hayek is naked in all kinda of shit. Desperado and Frida come to mind.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Maybe it’s because I naturally loathe authority and being forced to conform, but I love the ability to customize my android based phone (and having the ability to do so straight out of the box vs. diving into the Net and earning my virtual hacking degree with a minor in rooting). Video format, no worries. File management? How about having to open up iTunes, connect your iPhone, open up the file into iTunes library, wait for it to sync it vs. plug it in, drag and drop like a USB stick, done in 2 seconds.
For me it’s about choice(s). The freedom to do what I want with MY phone. Because it’s my fucking phone I bought with my money. It shouldn’t feel like I rented it from Apple and need permission every time I want to “wipe my ass” as you so succinctly put it.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
bullsh! how the hell have i missed it? i feel shame.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
This is a good point. Smart phones have, in just a few years, done what computers did over the course of 10 or 15 years, and that is to advance so far so fast that they reach a point where the only advances left are somewhat incremental. And that’s okay! That’s perfectly fine, because what we have is pretty damn good.
But I was following the Apple event last week – the first time which I’ve done so, because I’m considering switching to the iPhone – and the hyperbole was something else. Every. Single. Feature. was the greatest thing ever. It was so over the top.
And let’s face it…the best part of the iPhone 5 is something that Apple had nothing to do with whatsoever: 4G.

I agree with all of this. It just gets really annoying hearing the back and forth between the iphone people and the iphone haters. There HAS to be something better to argue about, like whether I should start Cassel or Palmer as my 2nd QB this week.

goodfella, widgets and video format are the two Android perks I miss the most outside of the file management piece. Incredible that Apple hasn’t addressed these yet. It’s nice not having to open an app to get the weather, or see what’s playing on Pandora, or check your calendar.

I just bought a four-door Honda Accord. It’s awesome.
You can’t go wrong with Honda Accord, Nissan Altima or Toyota Camry. You get the sedan feel and space, but a sleek and relatively sporty look. Those cars will go for a very long time, too, especially if you do the basic maintenance like oil, tires, etc. They hold re-sale value as well because of their longevity and reliability. Very good gas mileage, especially if you get into brand new (I’d never recommend buying a brand new car) or recently used (08-10 are good, but 11-12 are fantastic).

Agreed. Like I said, I use an Android tablet and an Apple smartphone. The look, feel, performance and app selection of the iPhone is great. The flexibility and ease of use for the Android tablet is also great. Given a choice of being “locked” into one ecosystem I’d choose Android, especially on the tablet side because of their video playback capability. But the iPhone 4 is a really nice smartphone.

New or used Hoss? We’ve had two Elantras. My wife put 180k on hers and the only issue was the windshield wipers broke twice. I bought a used Elantra. No issues so far outside of, oddly – a broken set of wipers (wiper transmission broke on both). 29/24 mpg. The creature comforts are less than what you get in the others, but mine had a very nice jvc soundsystem from the first owner.

Those widgets are also one of the major reasons that cause terrible battery life on most of the Android phones.
I also enjoy not having malware, viruses, any non-conforming apps because of the fragmentation or having a bunch of bloatware on my phone too.

Scripty I would consider a high end Sentra, too. Their mid level comes fairly loaded and it’s got a decent sporty ride to it.

buy pre-owned, whatever you do.
I’ve got a 2007 nissan altima that has been pretty good to me, 20 gallon fuel tank about 22 mpg city.
my next car is probably a CPO BMW/Audi/Infiniti rather than brand new other cars for the same price.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Also, Big Hoss, there are obviously different models of Accord, Altima and Camry. You can get the basic packages, but if you go up a bit you don’t sacrifice much money while also having a sharper look. My Accord is the highest end one (I didn’t have that intention when shopping, but stumbled into this one) and I’m very satisfied with the price I paid.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I wonder what I could get for my 2008 TSX with 54k miles on it and in really good condition (few dings, only replaced tires and just replaced brakes recently)
September 20th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
I’m actually considering selling mu iPad and getting a kindle since I do nothing but read on it. I got it as a gift but I don’t need it. Anyone have the new Kindle HD? Is the LCD screen going to give me the same issues reading in the sun that my iPad does?

Those are a problem, no doubt. But I bought the 4 Saturday. Took it out of the box, connected it and only had 6.3 GB of the supposed 8 GB free. There wasn’t a single file on the device outside of the stock apps. That’s complete horseshit and should be classified as bloatware.
To be fair, my Nook Tablet is advertised as have 16 GB of storage. Well, bullshit. 15 GB are locked down for B&N-only content. You can add a mini SD that bumps the storage up to 32GB, but even rooted I still can’t get into that 15GB that’s reserved. Fuck you, if I’m paying for a 16GB device I want the full amount. Or at least more than 1GB.

September 20th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
I’ve heard that it does, although not quite as bad. It’s still not idea for a beach or long outdoor reading experiences. I’m not sure any of the tablets can really fix that problem. e-ink e-readers? Sure.
Once I get tired of the Nook (which will be a while because its great rooted) I’ll grab the 8.8 inch HD for $300.

Who’s worried? Apple’s days as the premier, untouchable tech company are numbered, and it’s not because I am a “hater” — I’ve got multiple iPhones, iPads, etc. The fact is that Apple didn’t invent the smartphone (nor did it invent the PC). What they did (and have done brilliantly) is re-invent the consumer experience, and that was enough for a few product cycles, but that cycle has reached it’s saturation point. The simple reality is that the iOS isn’t radically different from the first couple of iterations (but I will submit that when it first hit the market, it was a game changer — but no longer).
Worried? Not me. But the suits up in Cupertino should take a good hard look at the tech “leaders” of the past who during their dominance seemed untouchable (Palm, Nokia, BlackBerry, …) and realize that a good thing only lasts so long.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
part of me is resisting the new iphone simply b/c everywhere you look people are drooling and the hyperbole, like you said, is outrageous. at least the windows 8 and android phone coverage is even toned compared to the iphone

The only thing I can think is that the guys in the car did some stupid driving and pissed off several truckers before the camera turned on. What a beatdown that one guy delivered.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I bought a kindle fire when it first came out. It’s fine for reading, but browsing the web has become a major pain in the ass. It takes forever to load and crashes pretty regularly. Plus, I’ve found the game controls are having increasing lag. Wonder if anyone else is having the same issues.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:46 AM

just bought a CPO Infiniti M37. love it, and will never buy new again. its a 2011, and was 20K off the MSRP.

I got to the point where I don’t see the need to upgrade my phone until it sides or becomes unusable. I’ve had two smartphones in the last five years (Storm and the 4). But no fucking way am I upgraded now when I’ll have to pay for the phone and see my contract skyrocket with LTE.

Had a 2004 Camry, ran great, took care of it and it treated me well. Somewhere around 175k a block in the engine just gave out. Some kind of recall Toyota put out around 150k sometimes something in there slips and literally ruins your life. Car died on me 4 days before Christmas this past year and I got nothing for it. Screwed. Forced to buy something new.

I clicked on the video and used google translate. Seems like those guys on the side of the road are extortionists preying on truckers. So a bunch of truckers got out of their vehicle and delivered a beatdown. And from one comment, I gather that the guy that got his ass kicked is now being searched for by the cops.

i much prefer the idea of taking someone’s 2 year old lease and saving 20-30K than buying new and losing 20-30% in the first 2 years of ownership. Let someone else take that hit.
BMW’s don’t hold their value past 2nd or 3rd year with moderate mileage on it 36-50K, so it’s a great value if you want a luxury car for a new non luxury car price.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:50 AM

As it should be, IMO. Android fragmentation and lack of support for older phones is a huge, huge problem. As is having multiple manufacturers each pumping out multiple Android phones. My Droid X was *the* phone when it came out just 26 months ago and I’m two Android versions behind with no hope for an upgrade.
I’m hoping that whatever my next phone is will last 3-4 years, because after 4G I don’t know what amazing upgrade could be so important that I would feel a need to trade up.

September 20th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
BMW’s have always been great cars….for the first owner. The reason? Once the warranty runs out and the free maintenance is up, it becomes a money pit. Even if you get one that is reliable, the maintenance alone is 2-3 times more expensive than regular vehicles. Moreover, the little conveniences that are awesome when fixed for free turn into headaches when you have to pay for them (see: expensive motor replacement on thigh extension seat support). Not to mention, if you own a 335i and have to get the fuel pumps replaced out of warranty i weep for you. Not to mention if you have to rebuild the turbos. Ho.Ly.Shit.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Yup. You can allviate some of that by sticking to the flagship Galaxy series, but Samsung/Google don’t do a good enough job of marketing to ordinary users that this phone is the real iPhone rival. The HTC One X and Galaxy SIII are the two best phones on the market right now, and that includes the iPhone 4s or 5. But the fragmentation and different manufacterers makes it impossible to deliver a unified marketing message.
September 20th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Apple’s “Act 2″, let’s think for a moment, what happened during that time, and what brought them back during “Act 3″?
Steve. Jobs. So unless they plan on digging up his bones and cloning him, I wish Apple the best of luck with their 4th and final act (1 and 3 were all Steve Jobs). I don’t wish failure on Apple, the worst thing for consumers is less competition… but I’m a realist. And the reality is that Apple’s best days are in their rear view.

September 20th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Yes and no. Steve Jobs was a brilliant innovator. But attributing Apple’s current perceived lack of innovation to Jobs’ passing is a bit disingenuous. He presided over the ramp up phase, ushering in the iPhone and iPad. But even he wouldn’t be able to create some revolutionary new iOS update right now. It’s doubtful he took some amazing new product line secret to his grave. In all likelihood, Apple is following Jobs’ blueprint by maximizing the current product offering.

kaiser – not trying to cast every bimmer ever in a bad light. but your last sentence is the true point I am making. If you can find one that is CPO and has an extended warranty, go for it. Great purchase. IF not, you are going to be playing the same game with any out of warranty car, albeit with one with more moving parts, things to break, and higher bills. If its worth it to you then go for it. Nothing says awesome like piddling around town in a 335i, only to pull up to a stoplight and run a 4.8 0-60 time over the local redneck and his mustang GT.

I have no stake in this battle. But Apple is by nearly all matters – the #1 or #2 company in the world. So yeah, it’s likely the only place to go is down. That said, they are going to remain a goliath for the next few years due to the patents they’ve obtained in the recent past. That’s before sales. Gotta any more shit to throw on the wall?

September 20th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
And they are doing a brilliant Job. But as you rightly point out, Jobs’ DNA is all over the latest products whose genesis came from the one “species” that spawned it all — the iPod (and no one can deny that this was 100% Jobs). The halo effect and the “juice” that Apple can extract from the latest evolutions of these products may indeed last for another cycle or two… but then what? For all the naysayers about Android, how do you explain the fact that Android’s market share has now crossed 50%, and believe it or not is four times larger than iOS? 4 times: http://www.androidauthority.com/idc-android-has-four-times-more-global-market-share-than-ios-116099/
September 20th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
who on here has a patent. how long those go for?
September 20th, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Bottom line: Apple will be fine for many years to come, if not the Goliath they are now. They’ll probably need a new product line soon because there’s now tremendous competition in the tablet and smartphone markets that wasn’t there at launch, and it can’t be some stupid Apple TV to enter a market that’s already saturated. A gaming system or home automation platform would be interesting.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I like Android and I can explain it easily: they have a shitload more products out there. Android smartphone market share is over 60 percent now, but Apple has just three models (4, 4s, 5) to Android’s 75+. People can buy $20 Android phones.
Yes, Android has market share. But what does that really mean when there’s not one company to exploit it? There’s not a Google logo on the backs of these phones, ya know?
September 20th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
I do think that if it’s possible to underrate a future Apple offering, people might be underestimating the impact that an Apple TV could have. I read a story awhile back about how Apple was working with content providers that even discussed an a la carte model where you’re not forced to subscribe to 100 channels you don’t want to get the 25 you do.
That could be hugely disruptive in the cable/dish industry, the way the iPod/iTunes were in the music industry.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Be careful–do the right math. It is almost NEVER worth it to pay the hybrid difference in price.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Queefer, all great points. I’m not saying that Apple is going to be closing up shop anytime soon, but I will say that Samsung is definitely not going away either — which is a good thing for both iOS and Android users. The worst case scenario is a monopoly — look at Microsoft, how has that worked out for everybody? Sure I use a PC, and I get the BSOD only once in a while, but fuck me if it couldn’t have been much, much better use experience had their been 1 or 2 serious competitors fighting for my business (do you think that in a truly competitive landscape MSFT would the dominance it has today with products like Windows ME and Vista — or for that matter introduce a new OS every other second?).
September 20th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
This. My mom didn’t listen to me and bought a Civic Hybrid with it’s 55 mpg promises. Based on that and $10k fromt he governemnt, it’d pay for itself in 8 years. But, 55mpg didn’t happen – much closer to 40 (which is just above what a normal Civc gets), so she needs to keep it for 13 years now…
September 20th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
I know, I’ve read that numerous times myself. I’ve never done the math myself though. I pile on a lot of miles so I might make up the price difference on gas savings much quicker than some people would.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Google is already offering this packaged with the fiber internet in Kansas City. Apple formats are limited and used proprietorially and will always limit content. Apple TV was only as good as Ice-Films/Sports Devil and you had to unlock to get it. People are not going to buy a limited internet experience through an apple device, they want the whole internet connected with their TV like a Chrome Box. Unless it streams live sports for free around the world it’s worthless.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:27 AM
Oh, my mistake then. What, with all the cursing and yelling in your previous comments, I was confused.

September 20th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I have one. 20 years.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
The thing that makes me skeptical about this is that your ISP controls the pipe into the home. In most places, that’s the very cable/satellite company that would be negatively affected by an a-la-carte Apple TV. There’d be no reason to ever purchase cable again, so the provider would either jack up data rates to absurd degrees or force Apple to hand over chucks of money to cover the loss.
Its hard to create a model where everyone wins.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Is it city driving? that’s where the hybrid works best, though you’ll find yourself trying to go less than 20 the whole time so you stay in electric.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Why can’t a buy the complete Lipstick column by Lois Long from the NYT? Cunts.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Addendum to that previous post: Google Fiber can get away with the a-la-carte model because they’re the ones laying down the infrastructure. In most areas, cable providers control the infrastructure and will not allow competitors to enter the marketplace. I dont know how Google got around it in KC (I think petitions, actually) but that would be a tough program to scale nationally without serious fights with the cable behemoths.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:35 AM

September 20th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
to really make it work you pretty much have to be going from a premium gas car with a small gas tank to a hybrid running on regular with a large gas tank.
go by the miles you can travel on a tank of gas, not MPG.
my nissan altima, when i was driving highway, got 25 MPG on a 20 gallon tank. i thought about getting a Prius with an 11-12gallon tank running 50 MPG. not worth the premium cost.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Community as a collective pays for the “last mile” construct of the internet connection as a means are relieving themselves from being gauged. If there is one industry that needs to be disrupted (after energy) it’s the ISP cunts.

Sure, but there are all sorts of enforcement questions. How do you ensure everyone pays? What if not everyone in the community wants or can afford the Apple service? What do you do when cable companies spend a decade tying this up in the courts?
We do some OEM work for major cable companies, and they are without a doubt the worst people to do business with on the planet. Worse than energy companies, worse than banks, worse than anything. Horrific customer service, massive arrogance, lazy because of their monopolistic business model. They will burn homes to the ground before allowing their services to be removed by Apple or Google.
September 20th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
From date of file, not date of awarding.
September 20th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Huh? Isn’t that the same thing in the end? MPG is a standardized metric that accounts for different tank sizes, types of gas, whatever.
If I’m getting 50% more miles per gallon of gas (just an example for illustrative purposes) I know that I’m paying 1/3 less in gas every week/month/year. So having figured my gas savings I can extrapolate how long it takes to make up the premium price of the hybrid car.
Am I missing something?
September 20th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Not everyone pays, it competes against the private sector.
You build it before they pass the law and then pass city bylaws protecting it.
