Billy Gillispie and Texas Tech Have Parted Ways
Billy Gillispie has resigned as head basketball coach at Texas Tech, the school just announced. Here’s the statement:
“Billy has decided to focus on his health and we wish him a full recovery,” athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a released statement. “We are proud of the young men that he has brought to this campus. Billy’s decision allows him to concentrate on his well-being and allows us to turn our attention to preparations for the upcoming season.”
This should come as a surprise to nobody. Gillispie, who previously flamed out at Kentucky, was a disaster at Texas Tech, and over the summer, multiple reports surfaced of player mistreatment in Lubbock. Rather than deal with it, Gillispie went to the hospital for stress, and then wound up in the Mayo Clinic.

Least surprising news in a long time.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
OK, I’ll ask. “Will he ever coach again?”
Personally, I feel bad for the guy. Go get well.
But, coaches have that burn in their souls so deep, I don’t think he is completely done. Gonna be a loooooong climb back to D-1 coaching.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
Yep. I didn’t even realize he was the coach at Texas Tech until like a week ago. I really thought he was a good coach at a&m, don’t really know what happened. Guess he has some serious problems.

/Joins that exclusive list
sorry, had to pull the Giants post for news.
Billy Gillispie and Texas Tech Have Parted Ways
/Who?
//Where??
///So this is what news is

There’s no chance he ever coaches at a Division I school again. Nobody will hire him after what has come out about him harming players, mistreating employees, and outright lying to people at two different schools. if he’s lucky, some small DIII school will give him a chance in 5 years
September 20th, 2012 at 7:17 PM
And, if he does well enough, some lower-level D-1 school will give him a shot, because of name recognition.
Larry Eustachy keeps getting chances. Tim Floyd gets chances. Calipari is coaching the defending champ. Bobby Knight got a second chance, until he got tired of the BS.
Call me cynical, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if/when Gillispie gets to coach U.S. International, UT-San Antonio or Canisus.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:19 PM
Canisius
Apologies to the Griffins out there.

OK, I’ll ask. “Will he ever coach again?”
On KU’s bench in the fall of 2013. Self and him are really good friends.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:22 PM
Aside from Knight’s behavior with choking Neal Reed, none of those other guys you mentioned have been so bad as Gillispie. Making injured players keep running so long that they get double stress fractures? 12 hour practices? Calling a potential assistant coach to tell him to come and work for him but when the coach moves out there with his family, Gillispie reneges? It’s worse than Eustachy’s drinking problems, Tim Floyd’s recruiting issues, Calipari’s sliminess, and Knight’s behavior combined.
having lived near Buffalo, no chance in hell a school like Canisius would take a guy like him. a small Jesuit school with great academics and role in the community will not touch a cancer like that.

Self and him
That’s why he’s in the Mayo Clinic. Referring to himself in the third person, and as self and him.
/Self and him would like eggs for breakfast, wifey. Self and him was wondering what it’d take for you to make that happen.

They may be friends, but I think Billy G. is so toxic that even his coaching pals will steer clear from him for at a long long time. SEC football thinks Gillispie is sketchy

OK, I’ll ask. “Will he ever coach again?” Meth
haha.

If he cleans up, does the I’m Sorry tour, and keeps his nose clean, he’ll be back and Saint Self will welcome him.

I never said that.

Good call on the Golden Griffins, A.P. Forgot you lived in that part of the country.
Mebbe I shoulda said “Centenary”. One of the great nicknames in all of college sport.
I could also see Gillispie blame his health issues for his erratic, mean behavior. Just think of the “redemption” stories that will flow from his recovery. You may even see one here, on this very site. But who would write it? My money’s on Cousin Ron.
This narrative almost writes itself.

Is this where everyone is? I need to know Car -1.5 or NYG +1.5. Any thoughts? The way I pick is I listen to as many people as possible, and see who has the dumbest reason and pick against them.
Actually works pretty well to go through Simmons’ columns, and find out where he’s being an idiot, and reverse those picks. Solid 9-10 wins a week that way in Pick’em
September 20th, 2012 at 7:40 PM
I never said that Meth
I’m just used to quoting you on TBLAD.

SROD gets it.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:44 PM
If you are going to name people you quote, can I recommend cutting off the sentences halfway through, so the name looks like part of the quotation and just confuses everyone?
September 20th, 2012 at 7:48 PM
That’s why he’s in the Mayo Clinic. Meth
I will work on that. Could be fun if done correctly.
/immediately forgets.
However, from your made-up sentence…
Well, he was in Lubbock. I’d be shooting meth in my nutsack if I had to live there.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:50 PM
There are like 330 D1 programs. Of course he’ll coach again.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:50 PM
SROD I am glad you are on here. If Toto is a 10 on the SROD fan-scale. Where’s Boz Scaggs at? A solid 8…?
September 20th, 2012 at 7:53 PM
KC, ha! That would explain a lot. “Putitdown, putitdown, putitdown”.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:54 PM
I hear Dave Bliss is available.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:56 PM
At least, if not 8.5 or more. Maybe he isn’t celebrated worldwide, but he is completely legit. Loved his work. He’s on the road, part time, with Michael McDonald & Donald Fagen as the Dukes of September.
“Jojo”, “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Heart of Mine” are tracks I really love. “Lowdown” got airplay on R&B stations in Memphis when I was in high school.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:56 PM

Them’s fightin’ words to a Gentleman.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:58 PM
Don’t forget “It’s Over” and “Lido Shuffle.” Oh, and “Loan Me a Dime,” with Duane Allman on guitar.
September 20th, 2012 at 7:59 PM
Ha! I had 8.5 then deleted to 8. At work, all fantasy football sites are blocked and I have Hakeem Nicks (I’d left him starting), so I ran to a nearby library to update my team on my lunch. I decide to peruse the CD collection and snagged the Scaggs greatest hits CD and had it spiining this afternoon.

So I’m not the only one. Thought I was the only victom of the IT Waffen SS.

Apparently I’m also a victim of Webster’s.

I need to check out this track. Heard of it, but never chased it. Lazy of me, to be sure.
That’s a cool way to spend a lunch hour.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:08 PM
The CD ends with a great song, We’re All Alone. I’ve been enjoying it alot today, sadly I left it in my car for the late shift tonight.
