Tom Gamboa was coaching first base for the Kansas City Royals on September 19, 2002 when he was attacked by 34-year-old William Ligue Jr. and his 15-year-old son (violence begins around the 1-minute mark).  The father and son ran onto the field shirtless and attacked Gamboa before the Royals could tackle them.

William Ligue Jr. was eventually “sentenced to 30 months of probation after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated battery.” He also had to “perform community service, attend parenting classes, remain in a substance abuse program and abide by a curfew for 90 days.” His son was sentenced to five years probation and 30 hours of community service.

It’s both surprising and disappointing that was the extent of the punishment for those two. In 2009, Deadspin tracked down the MySpace page of the son in this incident and – surprise of surprises – he was a still a scumbag, as well as an aspiring rapper. [SI, SI]
