According to the Broward Palm Beach New Times, Jeff Ireland had a confrontation with a fan at the game on Sunday. Said fan, who identified himself as “Sean” when he called into the Eric Reed Show on 104.3 The Ticket, claims that he confronted Ireland as a season ticket holder, discussed bad moves that he disagreed with, and suggested that Ireland “fire himself.”

Ireland then patted him on the back, said “Good suggestion,” then added, “Asshole” as he walked away. Other callers also called in to confirm the story, and claimed a group of fans also trailed Jeff Ireland chanting “Fireland.”

Look, I think that there are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize Jeff Ireland’s tenure in Miami. Coming up to him in the middle of the game and directly suggesting that he fire himself, though? Why do people think they can act so ridiculously? Ireland is right, even if he just needed to walk away and hide in a luxury box with better security. Of course, then again, this wasn’t the most outrageous case of name calling involving Jeff Ireland and someone else.
