SNL Premiere: Seth MacFarlane as Ryan Lochte, Plus Gangnam Style! (Videos)
Seth MacFarlane hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this weekend. I didn’t watch it, but I also didn’t hear anything horrible about it. Jay Pharoah played Obama, Seth MacFarlane sang and did voices. It had everything! Including this portion of Weekend Update that featured MacFarlane as Ryan Lochte. Jeeeeeaaaaah.
Bravo, SNL. Bravo. Every television show needs to work PSY into at least one episode. This includes Homeland, Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men.
Bill Hader and a veteran puppet made me laugh out loud quite a bit.
Finally, this is how you parody Clint Eastwood and the chair. Based on these four clips alone (/sss!), I’d say this was a very strong start to Saturday Night Live’s 38th season.

Goddamn, we couldn’t get a weekly Breaking Bad post, but we get an SNL post? Bullshit.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:01 PM
Should I know what PSY means?
September 17th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
Flipped over after the Stanford game ended, saw McFarlane was doing Family Guy voices and called it a night with that…I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but I find him to be about as funny as crib death
September 17th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
I don’t want to be one of those people that hasn’t watched SNL in 20 years, but still bitches about it anyway, so I’ll just shut up.
However,Seth MacFarlane looks like the creepiest of child molesters.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I thought the Romney outsourcing fake ad was pretty funny
September 17th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
GZA is playing in Pittsburgh tonight about six blocks from my house, I want to go ……… incoming whitest statement ever ….. I’ve never seen a rapper live before, and considering how much they rely on production, I’m kind of up in the air. 99% sure I’m going but I’m still curious how it will be.

Should I know what PSY means?
CRM has been promoting him the past couple weeks. Thanks to CRM, I am up to date on cultural goings ons. Not sure why this caught on, but it has and might as well just let it play out.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Should I know what PSY means?
Do you like happiness, joy, and feeling a part of youth culture?
September 17th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
I have never laughed even once at any of his shows, which are built not on humor but rather on a random jumble of largely outdated cultural references.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
I saw that SNL hired two new fat white people I had never heard of. Saw a picture of the guy and someone commented “I’m confused, did SNL want Eugene Mirman but couldn’t afford him?” and that summed up my attitude toward the show. Not much comedic talent coming out of there anymore.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:08 PM

I saw Run DMC back in 96 or 97. Before Jay was killed. I am still convinced to this day that Jay just flipped a switch on turntable and music was piped in through the speakers. Run and DMC were pretty could, but it just felt like karaoke. I know it is rap and there isn’t a whole going on anyway.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:08 PM
he might want to stop…that was HORRIBLE.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
American Dad is fucking hilarious (when it’s not an episode based on the daughter). Family Guy and The Cleveland Show are absolutely atrocious but American Dad slots firmly into the best cartoons on TV list.
1. The Venture Bros
2. Bob’s Burgers
3. Futurama
4. American Dad

? Good.

I saw Killer Mike, Ghostface and Rakewon this summer at a free show, it was a good night. Expect to see a great deal of super serious people who stand with their arms crossed not smiling or moving the entire time.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
no archer?
south park gets a legacy vote, but they need some new strong episodes.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
I’ve heard it really came around but never gave it another shot after the first few…could make it a project although it could ruin my McFarlane narrative
And fuck yes on Bob’s Burgers
September 17th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Fuck I forgot Archer.
Slot it in at four, because last season was kind of weak.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:11 PM

Vanilla Ice and Ice Cube both sounded like themselves. The pre-Fergie Black Eyed Peas sounded like shit at Warped Tour ’99.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:12 PM
Killer Mike is opening.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Mole – I agree with you on the rap shows. Seeing Big Boi at a festival was pretty disappointing. That being said, one of my friends saw Ghostface last year and said it was one of the better shows they’d seen in awhile, so GZA seems like a no-brainer.
Also, American Dad is an outstanding show.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Slot it in at four, because last season was kind of weak.
El Contador was easily the worst episode of the series. But I’m still laughing at the Nova Scotian terrorists making jokes about all Americans being racists.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:13 PM
I watched the first half of the first season when it aired and thought it was awful (it largely was). It has majorly improved going forward. Roger is one of the funniest characters in a long time in a comedy, just so insanely twisted.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
The Fergie’d Black Eyed Peas sound like shit wrapped in a santorum sandwich.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Buddy of mine swears Ghostface is the greatest thing he’s ever seen live.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
So…Boardwalk Empire?

i also liked archer wanting to fight barry in the alien-type robot.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:17 PM
Pregame entertainment before MNF
September 17th, 2012 at 12:17 PM

There are stillborn babies with harder heads than Sidney Crosby. Does that amuse you?
September 17th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
I really don’t listen to a lot of rap anymore, but Killer Mike is one of the “newer” acts that I enjoy (I know he’s been around for like 9 years, but considering most of what I listen to is from 92-94, he seems new). Should be a solid opener, might even be better live than GZA.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
We share similar views of Reagan, good dude.
He did Cherchez La Ghost and everyone went mental.
/except for the super serious people who stand with their arms crossed not smiling or moving the entire time
September 17th, 2012 at 12:20 PM
GET OUT. no way.
It’s a terrible episode. Still funny, but just not as strong as the others.
Double Deuce gets my vote as the best.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Why do people still watch SNL? Too lazy to turn the channel?
September 17th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
So…Boardwalk Empire?
It was a good start to the 3rd season.
There are stillborn babies with harder heads than Sidney Crosby. Does that amuse you?
Just. Wow.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Diversity Hire from Season 1 gets my vote as second best. Placebo Effect from Season 3 after that.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:24 PM
I still watch SNL regularly and thought it was a decent opener. That puppet thing was awesome. Bill Hader always crack me up. And Nasim Pedrad is hot for a female comedian. So there’s that.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:26 PM
Expect to see a great deal of super serious people who stand with their arms crossed not smiling or moving the entire time.
Farrakhan Fest!
September 17th, 2012 at 12:27 PM
It was a good start to the 3rd season.
untie him. but before you do, put a bullet in his head
September 17th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
What if someone find crib death hysterical? You cant assume everyone has the same humor palate.
I’d see the shit out of GZA.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Bought tickets, that settles that.
I wasn’t that excited for Boardwalk. I’ll download it though. The end of last season kind of ruined a lot of it for me.
I just want Kelly McDonald to die.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
what else? how bout this! and this!
we have a psycho
September 17th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
The FedEx commercial with the two candidates trading insults is funnier than SNL’s political content the last 12 months. And I like SNL.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
Geto Boys or GTFO, that is my guiding philosophy on rap.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
havent seen much of american dad, but roger is funny…i still gotta give the nod to bender tho, since him and cartman are my two fav tv characters ever. i wanna get this as a tattoo.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:32 PM
what else? how bout this! and this!
we have a psycho
That was a pretty psychotic opening scene.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Let’s make a TV show about prohibition bootlegging, mafia and political corruption set in the roaring twenties but focus on a social climbing sanctimonious hypocrite nag and her cunty kids while killing off the most interesting character. Fuck.
/probably still going to watch but seriously fuck those writers
September 17th, 2012 at 12:33 PM

they didn’t kill of richard…we’re still good there.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:34 PM
If Simpsons doesn’t get a legacy vote, South Park doesn’t. At least the former didn’t do an episode blasting fans for complaining about the show.
Well, not counting The Principal and The Pauper, because people were too stupid to realize that was what it was about.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:35 PM
Earl Sweatshirt.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Odd Future is seriously awful.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:36 PM

I’ve hated her since she tried to con Obi Won in Trainspotting, and was so glad she died in No Country For Old Men.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:37 PM
Oh, no, no, no. Just no.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:37 PM

they didn’t kill of richard…we’re still good there.
is he the half face? if so, agree
also, jimmy’s mom naked
September 17th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
Odd Future is seriously awful.
just burned this, from library so no harm done if it sucks
September 17th, 2012 at 12:38 PM
She’s never played a likable character. I don’t care how much she could get it, she just comes across as a conniving cunt.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:40 PM
Must have listening to that Frank Ocean CD for a weak straight drinking outdoors in the summer. Awesome album. I love Earl Sweatshirt.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Don’t confuse the actress with the roles. She’s a lovely lass, and was especially great in Stella Does Tricks and Two Family House.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
It wasn’t until years later I discovered people hated that episode, the internet’s a sad place…there’s a commenter on the AV Club Simpsons Classic posts who finds old SNPP comments to use as they fit today, the amazing thing is that people were ragging on Season 4 at the time saying it wasn’t as good as previous years
September 17th, 2012 at 12:42 PM
she just comes across as a conniving cunt.
i like a woman with an edge

SNL is still worth DVRing. I find a few good nuggets per episode, and can skip the rest.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:50 PM
If Simpsons doesn’t get a legacy vote, South Park doesn’t. At least the former didn’t do an episode blasting fans for complaining about the show.
simpsons get a legacy vote because the first 10 years were so unreal. but the last 10 have been unwatchable trash, and as of today, is the worst show on TV by a mile.
September 17th, 2012 at 12:51 PM

Anything that has Harmon and Alexander in it that I won’t watch has to be terrible.
Sasha Alexander has talent. So does Angie…
