Monday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons vs. Denver Broncos
Expect fireworks tonight in the Georgia Dome. Peyton Manning is making his first ever career start in a dome* and so I’m sure he will struggle dealing with having to play indoors. He started to look like the old Peyton in about the second quarter of the last game, and was like “I’ll take this”. If John Fox, who to this point has had Jake Delhomme as his best quarterback, can just get out of the way, Denver will be fine.
Atlanta, meanwhile, showed what they can do against a weakened defense in Kansas City, as they were never really stopped. Julio Jones is blowing up right before our eyes, like guts everywhere, really nasty stuff. Roddy White is going to get his. Matt Ryan will manage the game. I’m not sure either defense can slow the other offense down significantly, so this one will be decided by turnovers, and holding the opponent to field goals in the red zone.

Hate that these MNF games don’t start till after 8:30 PM.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:38 PM
let’s go Broncos!
September 17th, 2012 at 8:40 PM
Lookin’ forward to this matchup. Wanna see if Denver can “start fast”.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:42 PM
Not trying to be a downer, but man, my former boss’s 9 year old daughter died last week. Just saw the obit from saturdays paper. Misty in here now.
/life’s too short
September 17th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
…and we have our answer.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:45 PM
A.P., sorry to hear that. Any passing is sad, but when it’s a child it can be especially tough.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:56 PM
Holy shit, where was this rusty, flustered Peyton last week?
September 17th, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Not many things worse than a child sized coffin….sux….
September 17th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
Nobody, I mean nobody, would have guessed this. Three in the first?
September 17th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Holy 3 INTS in the 1st Q Batman.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Looks like I won’t be getting those 22 pts I need from Peyton tonight.
/Eat shit fetus head
September 17th, 2012 at 9:24 PM
Depends how many points you lose for INTs. I get the feeling they’ll be playing from behind which always leads to more passing yards.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
I just need 8 from Decker/Tamme to win. Looking bleak …
shocked how badly the Falcons are playing despite 3 turnovers. only 10 points??
September 17th, 2012 at 9:34 PM
One hour to play a quarter…awful
September 17th, 2012 at 9:38 PM
this is unwatchable
September 17th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
That was the longest 1st quarter ever.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
now the Broncos will challenge this spot on the Ryan slide …
September 17th, 2012 at 9:44 PM
The Broncos had 4 1st quarter turnovers, yet only down ten.
They are also outgaining Atlanta 102-53 in total yards.
WTF.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:44 PM
This ref lockout is just a ruse by the NFL. Once the reg refs come back no one will complain about the shitty officiating. If they do. They will be dismissed. A ruse I tell you, a ruse!
September 17th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
Matt Ryan is back to captain checkdown after everyone thought he was great after the Chiefs game.
Yeah the Chiefs who have given up like 74 points in 2 games.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
They are also outgaining Atlanta 102-53 in total yards.
WTF. Rondo
Fidel keeping you up to watch the whole game which will finish at 1:00 am.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Oh, my. These refs are bad.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
This game is so bad, id rather have a job like Meth where i couldnt watch the game but i would be getting paid
September 17th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Kudos to Gruden for saying this is hard to watch football.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
First time he’s ever said anything negative about anything or anyone during a game. I just wanna hear him one time say THIS GUY, THIS GUY SUCKS!
September 17th, 2012 at 9:49 PM
Tirico: “Honestly, this is embarrassing.”
September 17th, 2012 at 9:50 PM
Good failed challenge John Fox, those 5 yards on first down were really critical.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
This game is so bad, id rather have a job like Meth where i couldnt watch the game but i would be getting paid AP
You’d have to eat the leftover potato salad that had been sitting out half the day.
/last week’d Meth’d thing’d.
AP – Found out this evening before going to coach my kid’s football team (like right before) that a gal that frequented where I work, and was a wonderful woman, died today. Not unexpected (pancreatic cancer) but still a blow. I wasn’t a mess, but it is setting in now. She didn’t drink, smoke, do drugs. And basically got a life sentence five months ago.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:52 PM
The problem is the replacements aren’t even the “next best” group after the pro guys. All of the top college guys (BCS Conf’s, most D-1) have their groups “run” by the current NFL guys on the side, and their was no way they were going cross against their boss or give up the pretty sweet gig they already have.
So, we’re stuck with a bunch of retired guys or DII/DIII guys who have no business being out there.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:52 PM
4 turnovers and you turn it into 13 points (7 of which were from the 1 yard line). Good stuff Natty Ice.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
Denver would be winning this game with Tebow.
/someone had to say it
September 17th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
Kudos to Gruden for saying this is hard to watch football. Me
Tirico: “Honestly, this is embarrassing.” McIntyre
I’m not a conspiracy guy, but I’ll reach for the tinfoil and just put this out… is the NFL pressuring ESPN to be negative about the officiating (which is mostly not good) to pressure the union refs to settle?
I’m going out on a limb here. Hardly anyone else is here tonight.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
These scabs are disgusting to behold fuck management. Typical fucking austerity nonsense whereby you have a booming economy but fuck the whole thing up on some greedy ideological wage cutting bullshit.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:56 PM
I had a blast with my 1.5 year old tonight. While getting him ready for bed I decided to cut his finger nails. As I was doing the last finger (his thumb) he jerked right as I was clipping and I ended up cutting the skin off the end of his finger. He’s nearly convulsing from the screaming/crying, there is blood getting everywhere, and he’s throwing a fit because I’m trying to hold his thumb with pressure to get the blood to stop.
Of course my wife is out of town for work so I texted her a pic of the pile of bloody Kleenex/band aid wrappers.
/didn’t know kids’ fingers bled so much from a flesh wound
September 17th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Im actually surprised by the level of bashing going on with these refs by the networks that have the NFL, and even the NFL Network.
That really shows how bad it is when the Network owned by the league cant even look the other way cuz of the blatant horrible calls going on in the league.
They seem to have no control over the game whatsoever. I have seen more chippiness and more out of control bullshit after the whistle almost leading to fights its crazy. These guys have no control, and the players know it.
September 17th, 2012 at 9:59 PM
Matty Ice, 3.7 YPA.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:00 PM
i was less than a point away down in my fantasy matchup heading into tonight. i have julio jones.
he has -1 yards
if i lose this i swear i’m going to just drop everyone on my team and call it a season.
THROW THE FUCKING BALL TO JULIO!
September 17th, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Maybe I’m missing an obvious angle to this, but wouldn’t horrible officiating make the refs union’s case stronger? I don’t doubt any play behind the scenes by either side, but poor officiating looks worse on the league rather than the refs IMHO.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Spot on PI call!
September 17th, 2012 at 10:05 PM
As I was doing the last finger (his thumb) he jerked right as I was clipping and I ended up cutting the skin off the end of his finge Roeth
Yeah. I’ve done that. My kid is finally sitting on my lap calm watching Thomas or Dora or monster trucks on Speed and nine fingers are done and fine and then he jerks his hand and I’ve got a screaming kid when I was only one away. Blood tears screaching.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:05 PM
Y’all wrong. I’m telling you. A ruse. Once the real refs come back it will be easier to fix games without complaint.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:06 PM
“Matty Slice dissecting the defense!”
/wanking motion…
September 17th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
This completely.
How would it make the NFLs case stronger when their product is being trashed?
The old refs are getting stronger they are like “hey, you want integrity and the games to actually be called better and have control? We’re right here in case you need us!”
September 17th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
Green Bay at Seattle next monday night. That will be infinitely better than this game
September 17th, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Maybe I’m missing an obvious angle to this, but wouldn’t horrible officiating make the refs union’s case stronger? I don’t doubt any play behind the scenes by either side, but poor officiating looks worse on the league rather than the refs IMHO. Flaccid
Yeah, solid counter point. I was going for the guilt factor. I retract my statement. In fact, my post was completely dumb. That is what happens after coaching six year olds. Holy cow. I’m tired.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Will it? With these refs there’s nothings surprising anymore. Some of this is downright unwatchable with these bungling idiots out there.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:11 PM
When you watch highlights on the NFL Network, and at least every game they are bringing up officiating errors, it makes the league look completely stupid.
Biggest revenue league in the country, making billions of dollars, preaching safety and how important it is, and yet you have these scab refs making this a PR nightmare for the league.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:11 PM
No worries KC. This game is generating a lot of negative feedback, on top of a weakly officiated weekend. Even the ESPN game cast folks are tough on the refs and that’s in addition to Tirico and Gruden (and TBL).
September 17th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
Mike Pereira: (Twitter)
There is no way to keep with your tweets. Just know I feel your frustration. This is not the NFL I worked for. Don’t care whose fault it is
September 17th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
Where the hell were all these holding calls last night?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Asked this in a different post but didn’t get a response. Anybody know a reputable online sportsbook? Looking to lose my mortgage payments on NFL. Are any of these sites legit? Or do you just get your credit card info stolen?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:15 PM
My issue is “IF” these regular refs come to a deal and are brought back, the adjustments by teams and players all over the league.
Like starting completely over from what you have been doing all season.
This is pathetic.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:18 PM
I wouldn’t worry about it Rondo. The NFL LOVES the 49ers.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Dont get me started. Bullshit. They were horrible for both teams in Green Bay and against Detroit.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:24 PM
yes, I’m watching Revolution. first block was very strong
September 17th, 2012 at 10:25 PM
That ball fluttered Peyton, arm aint what it used to be.
He caught that, two feet in. Nice, make this a game.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Another blown call. Thankfully within the last 2 mins….(not rooting for Denver but for good football).
September 17th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Replay made it looks good. What’s the holdup?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Was watching the BoSox-Rays game on MLB network. The Trop wasn’t even 25% full. Pathetic fanbase. Move them the hell out of florida. That area doesn’t deserve that team.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
No worries KC. This game is generating a lot of negative feedback, on top of a weakly officiated weekend. Flaccid
Fist bump. Thanks for calling me out and for being civil.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
He caught that, two feet in. Nice, make this a game.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Is there anybody else here who can’t stand to listen to
that puss mouth Jon Gruden?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
i think it would be great if there were no video highlights for berman to narrate, just a fancy graphic that’s up there now with his wonderful “around the campfire” prose recapping all the games from the week.

this show revolution really is quite good (if you like doomsday stuff)
September 17th, 2012 at 10:36 PM
or not. Maybe I should stick to what I know.
/Anyone wanna talk Cardinals?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:37 PM

September 17th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Does it have food riots?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Good road win yesterday. What was the deal about Fitzgerald? Only 4 receiving yards?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Doubled on every single play. NE game planned to take him out and see if the Cards could beat them without Fitz. It worked, but just barely.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
i’m intrigued by it, i’m probably going to let it get a few episodes in before getting committed to it. last doomsday show i got really into got cancelled far too soon.
/jericho’d
//just started season 1 of revenge. good show, worth a watch.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
SROD, if the Cards had a better QB and a line that didn’t collapse at the slightest pressure, Fitz probably would have caught some balls and made some magic happen, but it just wasn’t in the cards yesterday.
/pun intended

September 17th, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Ill have to catch the revolution premiere on demand this week
September 17th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Haha. I’ve been talking them up for weeks on here.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
i want to watch last resort, but i’m not sure an alternate ending “crimson tide” would be good for 22 hours+ of television.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
I’d really enjoy it if Denver finds a way to win this game. I wouldn’t be shocked, but definitely not going to be easy.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
this show revolution really is quite good
What channel? Has to be better than MNF McIngyre
I am not watching it. I’m more interested in a football game. Even though it is painful to watch. I would look for a replay, but there probably is not one since it isn’t on cable. I’ll catch Revolution on Hulu or whatever tomorrow. It sounds like Walking Dead without zombies and Walking Dead never figured out the off the grid apocalypse thing. I have doubts a network show can.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:47 PM
89.42 to 88.90
come the fuck on!
i can’t believe they are going to make me sweat for 6 more yards!
September 17th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
The Broncos are going to win this.
/4thquarterisazition of the NFL.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
I’m down 88-85, have Decker and Tamme. i do not want to wake up to a loss …
September 17th, 2012 at 10:52 PM
I stopped watching Walking Dead when I saw the scene where the two sisters discuss how their father taught them different types of fishing knots based on their individual personalities. That was some of the most ham-fisted, terrible dialouge ever.
I may give Revolution a shot, although the sword fighting in the previews looks pretty cheesy.
September 17th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Smallie, Skelton & Kolb may have reached their respective ceilings. Maybe Landry Jones is the new hope?
I think they will win too many games to be in the running for Matt Barkley. What have you heard about young QBs the front office likes?
September 17th, 2012 at 10:58 PM
Revolution looks like garbage.
“All our heads are gonna be on a stake!”
Terrible. All the characters except Gus Fring look like douches and a bunch of white silver spoon people. The powers out!? Oh noes!
September 17th, 2012 at 10:58 PM
NOthing from the team itself, just from fans. Whisenhunt has drafted 2 QBs since he took over: Skelton and Ryan Lindley. Both are big bodied, strong armed and have good pocket presence. That’s his type. I see someone like Logan Thomas out of VT fitting that mold. Problem is, they have more holes than just QB. The OL is awful, and with a good line, they open up the run game and as a result the pass game. I think Kolb is better than Skelton, and that behind a competent line he would be a better than average but not elite QB.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:00 PM
can’t cook meth in a secret lab without power.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:01 PM
Its 11pm and we arent halfway through the 3rd, COME THE FUCK ON REFS.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:01 PM
Vlad – What, network TV has great acting/lines?
come on. the storyline – the world loses power – and the Lost meets Hunger Games angle is solid for those into that kind of thing. (me)
September 17th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
i just started watching revolution online between plays since there are long delays. does gus fring show up in the pilot?
September 17th, 2012 at 11:03 PM
wilhelm screamers: 2-0. thank you matt ryan.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:03 PM
I got hosed by NBC before with The Event. Never again.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:04 PM
IMHO, you can find competent linemen more frequently than elite QBs. Is Russ Grimm still the OC/OL coach/HC-in-waiting?
Somebody staff-wise is big-time responsible for the lack of line play. They gotta get off the dime.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:07 PM
OL and assistant head coach. Michael Bidwill LOVES Grimm. Not drafting lineman is what has killed that line. Levi Brown was very good at run blocking and average at pass protection, and he went down for the year with no depth behind him. That offense will only go as far as the line allows them to go this year.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:08 PM
team insiders have said Grimm was overruled in the war room on drafting several OL prospects who have become solid starters over the past few years. Whis, like any HC has a huge ego, and it’s cost the team.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:18 PM

89.42 – 89.40
i was hoping to get to bed early tonight. all i need is a 5 yard slant. that’s it! c’mon!
September 17th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
I dont even have to be anywhere til 1PM tomorrow and i may go to bed before this game ends
September 17th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
I feel like McGahee is having a sneaky good game.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
18 for 105. Not bad, not bad at all. And now the score.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:41 PM
So basically Matt Ryan has to take off his pants on the sideline, and as the announcers are talking about the human dressing room giving him privacy, ESPN cuts to an overhead shot.
September 17th, 2012 at 11:44 PM
will there be a revolution post tomorrow?
September 17th, 2012 at 11:48 PM
So basically Matt Ryan has to take off his pants on the sideline, and as the announcers are talking about the human dressing room giving him privacy, ESPN cuts to an overhead shot.

i was following the first quarter plus a little bit of the second online. didn’t know he dropped one.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Why didnt Fox take the TO before the 2:00 warning? Yeah it’s only 6 seconds but every second counts.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:09 AM
Perfect strike by Ryan in between 2 defenders. He was falling down with it in his hands.
Not a fan. 2nd worst draft day trade ever.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:26 AM
I actually lost a fantasy point on that Ryan kneel down (went down to 19 rushing yards). I was down by 40 so it didn’t affect me, but someone should keep tabs on those poor souls who lost because of that.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:30 AM
but someone should keep tabs on those poor souls who lost because of that.
No. No one should keep tabs on that.
September 18th, 2012 at 12:36 AM
Is it because if you don’t kill yourself, then you don’t care enough?
September 18th, 2012 at 12:56 AM
come on. the storyline – the world loses power – and the Lost meets Hunger Games angle is solid for those into that kind of thing.
in theory, yes. But the execution was terrible.
