Since the All-Star Break, Three (3!) Teams Have As Many Wins at Citi Field as the Mets (or More!)
Per ELIAS: Most wins at Citi Field since All-Star Break– Nationals 6, Braves 5, Rockies 4, Mets 4
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) September 13, 2012
It has not been a great season for the New York Mets. The The Mets are just 19-38 in the second half and are just 4-21 at home, yet somehow, they aren’t in last place. (“What’s wrong with the Marlins!?” said the idiot.) The most interesting part of the Mets’ post-All-Star break record is the fact that the Nationals and Braves both have more wins at Citi Field than the Mets do – while the Rockies have as many wins as the home team.
Looking at the Mets schedule, they have 3 games left against the Marlins and Phillies each and a 4-game series against the Pirates. The good news is that the Phillies haven’t played in New York since the All-Star break. So even with a sweep they can’t catch the Mets. The Marlins won two out of three in their previous second-half trip to Citifield, so a sweep would put them ahead of the Mets. Meanwhile, the Pirates can catch the Mets if New York drops all 10 of their remaining home games.
The good news is the Mets only need to go 3-7 in their final home stand (September 17th – September 27th) to pass the Braves and Nationals to become the winningest team in Citi Field history*. (*for the second half of the 2012 season) Everything rests on the shoulders of R.A. Dickey on Monday night when he faces off against the Phillies with a chance for his 19th win of the season. The stakes have never been so high!

And since (and before!) the All Star Break I’ve watched zero (0!) baseball games. It’s sad. I used to love baseball when I played.
