Please, no one do anything to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims during today’s Roundup.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:16 AM
roundup is tardy because i didn’t know whether or not to post the first video.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:22 AM
That’s just creepy. I know they are of age (in the legal sense), but having them watched them on disney when my kids watched their shows/movies, freaks me out.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:24 AM
Wasn’t that bad, you’ve posted worse. Just some roided up douche taking a cheap shot on a smaller guy, like the tough guy he is. He really didnt even land many punches.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
Please tell me that marine asshole has been arrested.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:25 AM
That really escalated quickly.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Why the hell was the guy on the bike following so cloesly. Damn crotch rocket riders.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
The Yankees lost to the Red Sox on a Jacoby Ellsbury walk-off homer.
Pretty sure it was a single.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
he didn’t land many punches? the youtube description, presumably from the cab company, said the guy had multiple face fractures and 15 stitches were needed.
I’d say it was more than “a cheap shot.”
September 12th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
I’ve read a couple of reports on the attack in Libya. My biggest question is why the place was being guarded by Libyan security forces instead of Marines. It is my understanding that embassies are supposed to be the purview of the USMC.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
That video is majorly fucked up.
NASA picture is amazing.
Good for the UBS guy finally getting his reward. There was a lot of talk that he wouldn’t get paid. People should be incentivized for exposing fraud. Otherwise, they won’t risk job loss and financial ruin to shed light on crimes.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
Cheap shot in the sense that he just hammered the guy with a sudden, surprising right.

Marine: “You just assaulted me, you put your fockin hands on me!!!”
I don’t think he understands how the law works here.
What we’ve got here is… failure to communicate. Some men you just can’t reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it… well, he gets it. I don’t like it any more than you men.

i argue about cab fare all the time. it’s like life’s ongoing hustle.
and i chalk that beating up to him being more of jersey/new york trash than a marine.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Also, why was the cab rider upset? Because he was going to have to share a cab with someone?

September 12th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
he didn’t land many punches?
not cleanly, at least it didn’t appear that way in the video. given the size of the guy, i’d think he could do the damage you described with one or two good licks.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
Read it yesterday. Heard her show a few times in her heyday. She was good. Real good.
Watched the Marine video. PTSD? Totally uncalled for. There isn’t enough money in this universe or any other to get me to drive a hack. Too many wackjobs loose in the streets, especially after dark.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
From the news report of the assault in Surf City, NC.

Imagine if Christians acted the same way fundamentalist Muslims did every time they saw a cartoon depiction of Jesus? The third planet from the Sun would be Mars.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
Totally agree — what are we doing using Libyan security to protect our embassy in a hell hole like Tripoli? Even in London we have a marine guards. Hilary has some ‘splaining to do.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
And fuck this guy. While what the Marine did is wrong, you have no idea if he checked in to avoid prosecution. It is more likely he told someone up his command chain what happened and was told to get himself into medical care ASAP. If he is a part of the SO, then the chances of him suffering from massive PTSD are probably right around 100%.

September 12th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
what are we doing using Libyan security to protect our embassy in a hell hole like Tripoli?
my guess, using US Military in Tripoli is more provacative. not that i agree with using foreign security…
September 12th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Solid roundup.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
If we can’t use the USMC for security, then I would suggest not having an embassy there.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
According to this article, the marine is only getting misdemeanor charges. What a joke.

when was the last time the US forfieted land/property?
i’d use those Blackwater (or whatever they’re going by now) psychos for security.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Oakland won its fifth straight and now lead Tampa by two games and Anaheim by 2.5 games in the Wild Card race
What agreat story. Glad to see it in the roundup. These guys just keep winning and it makes me sour seeing Reddick performing well. Thanks a lot Carl Crawford.
September 12th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Listed as an embassy on the government website. And he wouldn’t be called an ambassador if it was a consulate. Granted, we all know that the media can’t be bothered to use correct terms, but I think they got it right on this one.

September 12th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
That was tough to watch. The Marine basically bullied and beat on that guy because he could. The violence wasn’t as nauseating at the Marine’s attitude.

I wonder how much of that is football fatigue? Lotta football watching to cram in when you’re jacked for week 1, then you have two Sunday night games, and then another prime timer the next night.
I watched most of it just so I could enjoy another Bengals Bandwagon last exactly one preseason. Nothing worse than hearing “Who dey?!?!” from a bunch of hillbillies wearing dusty gear.

September 12th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Really? I always assumed you have an unfettered desire to unnecessarily show violence and personal injury. Seems like every week there is a car crash, a denny’s fight, or some senseless violence. Not passing judgement, it’s your(?) site to do whatever you want to do with it, but color me surprised that you struggled with whether to show that video. It seems youtube has made the decision for you, now.

Also, Bret Easton Ellis hit the nail on the head with the DFW takedown. Dude was about as pretentious as they come. Although can a guy who goes by three names really call someone else pretentious?
September 12th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
I’ll never forget running into my catechism teacher at the movies and he asked what I was going to see. I told him The DaVinci Code, he looked at me with a straight face and said, “you know that story isn’t true, right?”.

Dunno if this will work in an Arab country. You’ll have to make clear that you’ll get raped if you go into this embassy. Because if an Arab man thinks he can go in and rape, he probably will.

Not exactly sure why christians always feel compelled to point out that they don’t start a mob and kill people whenever someone insults their religion. Congratulations? Wanna cookie?
It’s reprehensible that in 2012 we are still killing each other over religious difference. I wonder what it will take for the arab world to finally have their age of enlightenment moment that occurred in Europe hundreds of years ago.
September 12th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
yeah, i pretty much agree with this. if the guy had something to say, then maybe a drunken(?) twitter rant works for him, but yeah; let it go dude.
September 12th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Well, Ellis does have an ax to grind as DFW was critical of him. But really, the guy is dead, let it go.
I just read a piece by a guy that edited both of them. He basically said that each saw in the other something they could not do themselves, and it fueled a rivalry. Ellis ultimately loses since Wallace is considered the better writer.
September 12th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Until we all pray to the same God or no God, there will be religious intolerance and violence. Good luck trying to change that.

September 12th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Don’t agree with that. Throughout western world, people go on living their life without religion being the cause of violence. Sure we have intense debate about gay marriage, stem cell research etc, but people aren’t dragged from their home and beaten to death because they hold a different viewpoint from yours.
I’m not naive enough to think that we’ll completely get rid of problems associated with organized religion, but the day someone can shout “death to muhammad” on the streets of Riyadh without getting beaten to death seems so far away. Sad.

Wars are fought over land and money. Religion in this case, is just the rallying point to get the common man involved in the battle. No different than the Confederates getting their 90% non slave owning masses to rally around the notion of state rights in order to fight the war over slavery.

Exactly. No use getting into dick measuring contest over which religion has caused the most damage to humanity. They’ve all contributed their fair share. But it’s not out of line to to say that arabs have a totally different viewpoint as to what should be done to those that offend your religion.

I remember when as part of the editorial board of my college newspaper we chose to publish those Muhammad cartoons. It was out of newsworthiness, not sensationalism. Yet, of course, we had detractors and the college actually set up a community discussion panel. The Middle East will never move past religious fundamentalism unless they’re exposed to a different way of life. Its just brainwashing at this point. Poor, uneducated people have flocked to religion since the beginnings of civilization. When dying is a superior alternative to living, the paradigm can never shift.

They did, Mohammed was a response to modernism; culture moving from rural to urban, open market, many gods, and matricidal society. He aligned himself with the ruling merchants after a brief misstep when he decided Satan playing a trick on him (satanic verses) but in the meanwhile the merchants ran with it, eventually the cunts took over the religion, split it into factions based on descendants and use it as a stick to subjugate people. Best way to keep subjugated people down is to keep them scared and angry hence why you cannot do this:

Well, totally messed up the last part of my post, but you know what I mean.
/This new diet is killing me
September 12th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
My point was to show the poster, who couldn’t fathom how an untalented B actor became relevant in the political realm, a precedent by another 1 who reached the ultimate level in that realm. If you still don’t get it, I can break it down to your level if you like.
not needed. my comment was to illustrate your pointless post. i will not break it down further for you, as i know you wont get it.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
You actually do these days. It’s really pathetic.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Knocking the rust off. This show needs more Opie.

Would have never happened under President Cain.

Fuck Apple. Why anyone would voluntarily join their closed ecosystem when Android and Amazon make great products is beyond me.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
I love it when we label things incorrectly. SUV runs over lady. Marine attacks cab driver. As if the first is naturally associated with the second. The actual title of the video should read – asshole attacks cab driver.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:22 AM

September 12th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
He’s a Marine, he attacked a cab driver. Where is this being labeled wrongly?
September 12th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Praise the Spaghetti Monster that Romney has turned the deaths of 3 Americans into a way to criticize the way the White House has handled the situation so far. Was really necessary at this point. Really, we all needed to hear that.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Because his employment as a Marine is not particularly relevant to the attack. It’s not nearly as bad as “ex-Yankees doing steroids” though. And since members of the military are paid to be violent, it is not surprising that it can both attract naturally violent individuals, or have a violent affect on some who join. So I don’t think it’s really as crazy as most of the crap Jason writes.

Sounds like the Dems and minorities…
September 12th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Color me shocked Queefer… Are you basically defending Bush’s idealogical strategy in the Middle East – give them democracy & a taste of western freedom and they shall be converted. Coming from you that is pretty interesting.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:39 AM

Sounds like the Dems and minorities…
And Republicans telling folks to be afraid of immigrants.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Sounds like? It’s practically the blueprint for Obama’s re-election campaign.
September 12th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
This is false, he’s a Marine. He doesn’t get to punch the clock at the end of the day, take off his uniform, and not be a Marine until the next day when he punches back in.

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award, named after a guy who cheated on his wife, is given to a player for his exemplary charity work off the field.

September 12th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Don’t agree with that. Throughout western world, people go on living their life without religion being the cause of violence.
Wasn’t all that long ago that folks in Northern Ireland were blowing the shit out of each other at least ostensibly over religious differences.

His employment as a Marine is relevent to the extent that it indicates he has had some sort of combat training. When I read that a Marine had beat down a cab driver, my first thought wasn’t “F*%$ the Marines.” It was, “Ouch, I bet that dude knew what he was doing, too.”
September 12th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
Here’s a terrific profile of The Fabulous Sports Babe. [Grantland]
Did anybody get the sense that the author was not so subtly trying to “out” the Sports Babe. He seems to imply that her desire to keep her two personas completely separate is based on an intense fear that folks will find out that she is really gay.
Thoughts?
September 12th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Never crossed my mind. Maybe she didn’t want to be hassled when she wasn’t at work. Joe DiMaggio was the same way, right?
September 12th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Beating old dudes up in cars is USMC 101. If you get through boot camp, you’ve probably already achieved level 5 proficiency in public transportation combat.
September 12th, 2012 at 11:26 AM
No.
September 12th, 2012 at 11:27 AM
That whole piece felt skeezy, seemed like at the end he was suggesting that it was sad that she was back at doing that work…and I got the hinted-at lady love vibe as well, not sure the point there
September 12th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Of course its not, which is why the Marine made the news, and not THE Marines. Also, lets not discount the fact that this took place in Surf City, NC which is in the area of Camp Lejeune. So to not understand why a guy would be identified as a Marine in THAT part of the country where the newspaper is probably inundated with local stories about Marines, truly is worthy of a facepalm.

I’ll start by requesting Lisk’s waiver wire column to be released earlier in the day.
how about do your own thinking? i took lisk’s advice on dhb and have already dropped his ass
September 12th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
You cant force change at gunpoint, which was Bush’s massive folly. You cant force change, period. It has to come about organically. Soldiers rolling into your town with guns telling you not to worry, this is for your own good just sit back and enjoy the freedom, wouldn’t work anywhere.
September 12th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Of all the stupid things you have said, this has to be in the top 5. Voluntarily checking yourself into a mental institution will not allow you to avoid prosecution.
Now, can you tell me more about how Europe had an age of enlightenment 100s of years ago in regards to religion? I was planning on doing some reading on the Holocaust later today, and would love to read some fiction first.

It can help you get reduced/no sentence if you get some doctor to make a bogus diagnosis. But you’re right. That NEVER happens.
September 12th, 2012 at 12:35 PM
God Romney is such a piece of shit, pathetically trying to twist a statement about the Libya killings into some Obama apology when there are people dead. I can’t wait until his loser ass gets embarrassed in these debates and loses the election by five points.
