For ND it is about keep or increasing the value of their NBC deal. NBC pays not only for ND, but for the opponents ND brings to South Bend. Playing abiut half the home schedule against what amounts to a new conference USA teams was not going to cut it. They need to play BCS conference teams, thus the move.

ESPN Should Mention Conflict of Interest Covering Notre Dame’s Move to ACC

I don’t think their interest is in conflict with what they do. They make money by way of entertaining people, I imagine that’s their primary interest. So what if they killed the Big East in the process? ESPN is rarely a place where even credible journalism happens.

ND vs. Clemson, ND vs. Virginia Tech, ND vs. Florida State, ND vs. Miami games per year. That’s at least two games per year ESPN can push into prime spots while promoting the conference.

Only if those games are away from South Bend. They are already playing 2 or 3 ACC teams a year, anyway. Maybe one extra ND game on ESPN a year now.
