Kyle Casey, Harvard Basketball Player, Leaves School in Wake of Cheating Scandal
Kyle Casey, Harvard’s leading basketball scorer last season, is set to leave school in the wake of a massive cheating scandal that has rocked the University, according to Sports Illustrated.
The breadth of the cheating scandal at Harvard – “may have committed acts of academic dishonesty, ranging from inappropriate collaboration to outright plagiarism, on a take-home final exam,” the school said – is massive, and will impact the football team as well. SI’s Luke Winn tweeted that in addition to Casey, teammate Brandyn Curry may be involved.
Casey, a forward who would have been a senior this Fall, averaged 11.4 ppg for the Crimson last season, when they reached the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1946. With Casey, Harvard would have been the favorite to repeat as Ivy League champs (we ranked them 25th in our offseason poll). Curry started 31 games and led the team in assists (4.9 per game) and averaged 7.3 points per game. The loss of two starters would severely damage Harvard’s shot at winning the Ivy League.
According to SI, there’s a chance Casey could sit out the season and keep his final year of eligibility, and then play in 2013-2014.

I mean honestly, what do they expect with these?

Shut ‘em down? SROD
Is there any question? Of course. Harvard must go the way of Penn St. Gone. Disappeared. Forgotten. Never to be heard from again.

It’s like the administration from Dead Poet’s Society, thinking they’ll uphold strict moral code. Please. I would definitely take an answer or two

I’m sure it was probably designed to be pretty difficult. Any take-home final I had in college usually ended up being a lengthy process.

The new Avett Brothers album is great. Different, but great.
September 11th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
This right the fuck here. Take home history and poly sci finals are a bitch.
September 11th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
I’ma get all serious up in here.
Mentioned in the roundup earlier re: Hansbrough’s mom. Society has changed. If we looked hard enough at any college athletic department, we willfind dirty dealings or sketchy decisions.
How hard are we willing to look? What are we willing to do when we find dirt?
Seems like “that’s the way…of the world”.

The new Avett Brothers album is great
Worth a buy?
September 11th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Definitely worth a buy. I got in as the first 500 to get the box set with signed artwork and prints. I am a huge fan, so it was a no-brainer at 70 bucks, but definitely worth a 10 dollar download

Culture of basketball AND football once again rears its ugly head.

Any woman that birthed a kid as ugly as Earthworm Jim should be due a cosmic payback in the form of a sweet job or two.

Oh, I was kidding. However, I hate the NCAA so I’m willing to overlook what is considered dirt in the NCAAs eyes. Of course, cheating on a test is bad.

KC, I did get your humor (normally, I can be a bit daft). I just wanted to throw in a forced Earth, Wind and Fire reference.

Will Ammaker get tossed over this one?
September 11th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
MP – the two most recent albums are obviously more polished than their previous efforts. Moreover, there are electric guitars in the new album, and the songwriting and melodies go in some new directions.
Looking forward to the BoH album as well.

PLP – I buy 99% of my music too. Mainly because a lot of the stuff I buy these days isn’t on streaming sites/services.

Stuff I don’t buy is mostly rap, mixtapes either you can’t buy or I just don’t feel is worth buying since they put it out for free anyway.
September 11th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Seconded on the Avett album. I listened to the first 7 songs on the way into work this morning. Also, I’m seeing them next friday, always a great live show.
September 11th, 2012 at 11:19 AM
It’s like people only do things because they get paid… and that’s just really sad.
September 11th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
I hate this mentality. If he’s been caught cheating, it’s more of a loss to keep him in the program.

New DMB album is actually excellent. Legitimately excellent. Much better than the new Avett.
