Sunday Night Football: Peyton Manning Debuts For Denver Against Pittsburgh
For the second straight game, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be without Ryan Clark at safety. In January, it was Tim Tebow who took advantage of defensive injuries for Pittsburgh to put up a huge day, including the overtime winner to Demaryius Thomas. Now, it will be Peyton Manning who gets a bit of a break with Clark out, as well as James Harrison. Manning in a different uniform will be a very weird thing in this one. Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker are his new targets. This is the kind of game Denver has to win, at home against a quality opponent who has some starters out. Peyton Manning, after a year out of the league, is back.

pretty disappointing start for Denver.
September 9th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
I’m sure they’d rather be playing the Bills D.
September 9th, 2012 at 9:33 PM
now you’re talking, Broncos!
just win, baby, preferably by 3 or more.
September 9th, 2012 at 9:38 PM
Todd Haley, offensive genius. Just ask him.

Both teams had their moments offensively. Defenses competing big-time. Should be a down-to-the-wire finish.

Art Modell was a true visionary. One of the first people to publicly announce that Cleveland was terrible and deserved nothing nice. A hero of mine.
Part of me likes the Steelers running a little more, but most of me thinks they suck at running.

I see you have taken the ice out of your glass of liquor and put it into your veins.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Heard it yesterday for the first time on a local rock station. Dang, what a kick in the head.
Can’t wait to blast it from my SUV & terrorize my bourgeois suburban neighbors.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:09 PM
I’m not a fan of the Browns, but I hope you get Sandusky’d. I know you would enjoy that. So when you get Sandusky’d, it’s with a Rambo knife. Eat shit and enjoy your PSU football team getting butt fucked on a weekly basis. I’ve been one of the rubes that has defended your shitty pederast program. No more. Cindy Crosby is a faggot.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
Well, they did get the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, over Memphis. Cleveland has that, at least.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:13 PM
they seem like one of those teams that runs at bare minimum, only in situations that dictate when they can gain 5 yards (3 or 4 man fronts, DB’s and LB playing back), and the end of the year totals for running will make them seem better than they actually are. Ben Jarvis Green Ellis would have been great for the steelers.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:17 PM

And the Drew Carey Show….no?

I’ve been there a couple times. Great time. Doesn’t Memphis or Nashville have like a country or blues HoF?
September 9th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
Never watched it. Must’ve been on opposite a Bogart movie.
Nashville’s gotta have the Country Music HoF.
I think Memphis has a “Rock ‘n Soul Museum” thingy. Doesn’t get as much attention, and it’s in the ‘hood, IIRC.
September 9th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
they’ve got Sun Records, and the Gibson Guitar company, as well as a blues museum.
definitely recommend the gibson guitar factory.

I didn’t watch it much. Not too keen on Drew Carey.

That dude has been steadily working for years now. Somebody loves his work. I don’t get it, at all.
Peyton, distributing the football well tonight.

Terrible drop but thanks Denver for leading with the helmet.

Old ladies that watch Price is Right. Think that’s about all he’s doing now, isn’t it?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:06 PM
A few of you know that I am a pastor and I was wondering if a few of you would be willing to respond to help me in sermon prep for next Sunday. I am asking here because, as many of you have stated through the years I have been on this site, that you don’t attend church regularly or at all or even believe in God. Really not trying to start a debate or anything like that just looking for feedback. Any takers? If so, I will post what I am looking for; if not, forget I said anything.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:09 PM
grayson, I’d be honored to help. What Scriptures are you considering?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:09 PM
grayson, since you stated many have said they either don’t go, don’t go regularly, or even believe in God, I have a serious question, too. How can we be of service for a sermon?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
Grayson
I’m not a regular church attendee. But do still maintain a faith in God. Or rather a higher power. A lot of TBL’ers here hate religion etc. I’m not one. So let me and whoever else know what we can do to help or assist.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:13 PM
What Scriptures are you considering?
I find that I actually enjoyed reading the bible. Had ways of stating certain things just the right way, hard for me to explain how I interpreted it. Don’t go to church. And don’t know if I believe in God.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:14 PM
But do still maintain a faith in God and the fact that Stafford is a hillbilly.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
SROD- thanks man. The Scripture is this: John 10:10- The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Meth- it’s a different perspective; that’s what I am looking for and it’s coming for all parts of the country, not just DFW.
What I would like to know from people, regardless of church attendance/beliefs- what does a rich and satisfying life look like to you?
FYI- I am not the typical pastor that yells or harasses people so at no time will I get preachy on here.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
Send my kids to catholic school and baptist church on Sundays. I’m agnostic.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
God damn right.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
what does a rich and satisfying life look like to you?
Feeling like you’ve got a real reason to get out of bed in the morning.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
Rich and satisfying = good health and lots of time to kick it with family.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
So you, like my father, are the normal pastors who get a bad rap due to the whackos and con men on tv. Joel Osteen can go kick rocks.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Manning working his magic. So surgical
September 9th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
A life in which you give thanks for what you have and also what else you can achieve. And also give of yourself and ask nothing back. Things are tough for most of us. But just realize we are all in control of our own destinies and look out for your fellow man and woman.
/Stafford sucks
September 9th, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Manning working his magic. So surgical
Yea and watch those games I get to watch tomorrow are going to be blow-out crap games.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:22 PM
A rich and satisfying life to me is one not dependent on material things such as money but one where i can make a difference in someone’s life.
/money would be nice to pay off my debts, however.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:22 PM
control of our own destinies
Sorry, Vlad, but thanks to ESPN and cliche sports huddle talks everywhere I hate that phrase with a passion.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
Damn Vlad didn’t get far enough to see the shout out to Stafford…keepin’ it real I see.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
Also – doing charity for the sake of helping people without whining to get attention for all the good things you do. It doesn’t matter how much money or time you give. Just give and hope it makes a difference
September 9th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
Love the responses.
The gist of the sermon is that we are called to do more than just survive in life; more than get in a routine of get up, go to work, come home, go to sleep and repeat.
Do you feel like, right now, you have that rich and satisfying life? If yes- why? If not, then what would need to change?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Dear (insert celebrity name here),
If you were really into doing charitable work, you would do it selflessly without motivation for press. If someone happens to spot you doing something good, then great. Don’t go out of your way to say “look at me, i am helping people!”
September 9th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Matthew 7:15-20, especially where Christ says “You shall know them by their fruits”. IMHO, a rich and satisfying life is in helping others. It could be a word of encouragement, a hot meal for a hungry person, or a discrete, listening ear when a brother needs to unload a burden in his heart.
Why else are we here, if it isn’t to help one another?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
I wanna add that more often than not, I have failed at being obedient to God’s direction for my life. But, each day is a new opportunity to get it right.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:29 PM
Grayson,
Ive grown up in the church. Been around the needy and less fortunate all my life. I feel i could do more and have found myaelf getting more involved lately. It’s rewarding mentally and spiritually. I do a lot of stuff behind the scenes that allows my dad and his office manager to avoid being bogged down with trivial work and they can spend more time helping people.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
Tracy Porter! Right man, right place & time. Again.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:31 PM
Well said. Got a little dusty reading that. But spot on. It’s true. There is so much that divides us. But at the same time so much that should unite us.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:32 PM
Grayson,
Youll get a kinder, more reasonable response from us here tonight. If you posted this during the day, the vitriol towards church and religion would be too much. There are days I’ll avoid the roundup or any post if it happens to come up. There are some folks who will never change their mind regardless of what you try to say.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:32 PM
SROD- that is what bothers me about most Christians- they can claim it but there is no fruit or evidence of it and they are the ones that give the rest of us bad reps. We are preparing our church budget currently and my desire is to give away more to those that need it and my family and I are praying about taking a paycut in order to do so. And before someone asks- we are not a well-to-do church or anything like that; just a small church that is looking to help our community.
AP- couldn’t agree more. Let’s just help people; why seek attention on it?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Know what feels great? Not holding grudges and just forgiving people as well as brushing off unimportant stuff that used to bug me. Life is too short. No need to weigh yourself down with so much nonsense

Tim Tebow who?
September 9th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
What is Soused? Great commentator. But his level of hate is unmatched here. Unless he was molested by a priest, he’s just out of line with his hate. Biggest enigma on TBL.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:46 PM
grayson, I hear ya loud and clear.
My mom is an ordained minister back home on staff, and their business meetings wrestle with that concern every week. How much to give away, while still keeping the lights on & staff paid.
Also, I’d offer that a smaller church is probably in better position to minister to the community, since there is a greater opportunity to really connect with individuals seeking support.
A bigger church may (may) have so many layers of infrastructure that it may be difficult to ID who needs help, let alone getting that help to those in need in a timely fashion.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:56 PM
Vlad,
I wasn’t going to say it…also, the artist formerly known as ATL_Badger
September 9th, 2012 at 11:57 PM
I’d say that’s true, plus they are more connected to an actual location, an actual community. Larger churches tend to have people coming from all over the place, so to identify who they’re actually responsible for is challenging.
September 9th, 2012 at 11:59 PM
My church is somewhat small but is part of a church organization that is worldwide.
/you see us every year in november and december ringing those blasted bells outside stores
September 10th, 2012 at 12:00 AM
Growing up, the most common thing i heard from kids in school was “You go to church at a thrift store?” *facepalm*.
