Greg Aiello Takes Shot at Former Referee Mike Pereira Over Replacement Officiating [UPDATE]

Mike Pereira is not pleased with the replacement officials in the Green Bay-San Francisco game, tweeting “here’s what I think of the officiating in GB/SF, not too strong at this point.” Greg Aiello, with NFL PR, fired back “kind of like when you were out there.”

Nothing like a little former league official versus the league spokesman over the quality of officiating. Mike Pereira fired back, “that’s the first honest thing you’ve said in a while.” The criticisms have been out there, but so far there have been no major gaffes in critical situation, and no players have been thoughtlessly and unnecessarily maimed by a replacement official, so score this round for the NFL to date as we head to primetime and the conclusion of the second set of games.

[UPDATE: As many of you noted, the two are apparently friendly. So they were joking!]

But yeah, these replacement refs are making a traveshamockery of this GB game. Packers getting throttled on both ends notwithstanding.

What the NFL and it’s talking head buddies at the Networks don’t understand is that it’s not just a blown Pass Interference for 50 yards, or screwing up a touchdown call that’s a problem. of the games I’ve watched today, they have missed about a half dozen false starts. Look, that makes it a free play, and gives the offense a benefit that they aren’t entitled too. One play gained a first down, so it was doubly egregious, and on another the team then went and scored a touchdown. There’s a shit load of difference between 2nd and 15 and 3rd and 2.

And can someone please stick a fist in Aikmen’s mouth to shut him up? One play isn’t penalty, the same play later is a penalty. We’ve either had 2 blocks in the back in the Green Bay v Frisco game, or we’ve had none. No Troy, they aren’t allowed to hold and grab and interfere with receivers with the ball in the air, regardless of if the game is “physical out there” or not. Christ on a Crutch you suck.
