Saturday Night Football: Missouri vs. Georgia, LSU vs. Washington, UCLA vs. Nebraska
ESPN sent Herbie and Musburger to Texas A&M vs. Florida in the afternoon. That says about all you need to know about the night offerings.
Missouri vs. Georgia: We covered this game more extensively here. Georgia is 1-9 against Top 30 SRS teams the past two years. They are not good travelling, especially outside the Southeast. They have a suspension-depleted defense going against an unfamiliar, multifaceted, up tempo spread. Also Mark Richt. We like the Tigers.
LSU vs. Washington: Washington prepared for the Tiger. Can they handle the 90 degree heat? The Huskies don’t match up well, on defense or against the Tiger defensive front. Nice team with a very good quarterback in Keith Price, but this challenge is too much for them. LSU should win comfortably, but we’re interested to see how efficient they look. They did not impress, despite beating North Texas handily. Will this be an immensely talented team that competes for a BCS title or an immensely talented team that plays beneath the sum of its parts?
UCLA vs. Nebraska: Nebraska guaranteed themselves a Rose Bowl trip this season. Rex Burkhead will be a game time decision, though his understudy Ameer Abdullah is no slouch. Will Taylor Martinez complete 76 percent of his passes and throw for five touchdowns again? For UCLA, freshman Brett Hundley had a solid debut and tailback Johnathan Franklin ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries against Rice. More worrisome is the kicking in what may be a close game. The Bruins had three extra points blocked against Rice.
Arizona vs. Oklahoma State: Many like Arizona to cover, if not pull off the upset after putting up some crazy yardage against Toledo. With that defense, we’ll believe it when we see it.

Army covered. Eat shit Michigan fans.
September 8th, 2012 at 6:46 PM
Fuckin’ Michigan was lucky to leave with a win. Surprising, since they have the greatest coach to ever coach a football team, AND a five time Heisman Trophy winning quarterback. At least, this is what their fans tell me…
September 8th, 2012 at 7:12 PM
So this is the great USC?
I really hope Wisky doesn’t even score, fuck Bielema. Fuck Iowa too, losing to ISU.
September 8th, 2012 at 7:22 PM
Wisconsin just lost to OSU. No, not Ohio State. Oregon State. Yikes.
September 8th, 2012 at 7:23 PM
Wisconsin
Must’ve been too tired from churning all that milk to make that cheese.
September 8th, 2012 at 7:28 PM
Stupid customers. Why can’t you buy Keurig products from us? BECAUSE WE’RE NOT FUCKING KEURIG!!!
Do you bitch at a Ford dealership when you can’t buy a brand new Camaro?
Do you bitch at a Burger King when you can’t buy a Big Mac?
Then shut the fuck up.
September 8th, 2012 at 7:29 PM
Fuck you Nevada. You fumble twice in the red zone, but still have a double digit 4th quarter lead that you decided to blow by letting USF go 90 yards in under a minute.
/my only gambling loss of the day so far (4-1). Winners with MichSt. and then rode dogs PSU, AFA, and Purdue to covers
//still 4 left

Stupid customers. Why can’t you buy Keurig products from us? BECAUSE WE’RE NOT FUCKING KEURIG!!!
So having fun at work?
September 8th, 2012 at 7:48 PM
So having fun at work?
Not really. Every once in a blue moon we get a night where the idiots come out to play.

Had a customer want to speak to the “powers that be” as she called them, to express her dissatisfaction over us not being able to provide her with a spare owners manual to a brewer model that hasn’t been in production for 39 years. Get the fuck out of here, lady. Time to upgrade.
September 8th, 2012 at 7:55 PM
express her dissatisfaction over us not being able to provide her with a spare owners manual to a brewer model that hasn’t been in production for 39 years
Geez. Whatever they pay you it’s not enough
September 8th, 2012 at 7:56 PM
I’ve been cutting back on my drinking these past 6 weeks or so. And the fact that I’ve been sticking with it is amazing, because this job makes it pretty damn hard to not look at the clock and always see beer:30.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:00 PM
Whatever they pay you it’s not enough
Most of the time it’s not this bad. Usually just bored. I don’t make enough but I live right down the street so I actually make out about the same as the job I got laid off from in January. Made good money there but it was 45 minutes away. Gas killed me. I could get to this place and back on 15-20 bucks a week.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:03 PM
Syracuse covered! Moral victory!!
September 8th, 2012 at 8:19 PM

Did anyone else see Shaq’s shirt while he was on the sideline with the LSU cheerleaders?
September 8th, 2012 at 8:35 PM
The chick I’m working with tonight just complained because she normally gets two weekends off in a row, but she only got one this time (last weekend). If you were to place an object of my desire in front of me, and say “Tell me when the last time you had a weekend off was and this object is yours.”
/The object would not be mine
September 8th, 2012 at 8:36 PM
Did anyone else see Shaq’s shirt while he was on the sideline with the LSU cheerleaders?
No dice. What’d it say?
September 8th, 2012 at 8:37 PM
Time to get Shaq’d up before you get smacked up!
September 8th, 2012 at 8:39 PM
Wisky lost to Oregon State? Holy hell the B1G sucks this year. Looks like it’s MSU’s to lose. Too bad OSU is ineligible.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:40 PM
Yes. For example, the line in the USC/Syracuse was about 26 points (plus or minus 1 point depending on where you bet). So, despite winning, USC failed to cover. But, Syracuse did cover despite losing.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:45 PM
so, what are we drinking?
/nods at meth
September 8th, 2012 at 8:46 PM

September 8th, 2012 at 8:55 PM

September 8th, 2012 at 8:55 PM
Red tea with pomegranate. Wolfing down pot-stickers, watching Heartbreak Ridge again.
that sounds pretty tasty
September 8th, 2012 at 8:56 PM
It’s ironic I mention earlier I’ve been cutting back on drinking because some of the shit I dealt with the first half of this day made me want to go home and show many beers what the fucking deal is.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Roger that.
Got these by mistake. Meant to get the Tai-Pei brand spring rolls. Had the pot-stickers here, so I figured I’d scarf ‘em down.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:58 PM
pot-stickers
Gotta be honest. No idea what the hell those are.
September 8th, 2012 at 8:59 PM
Convenience store brand. It’s alright, I guess. Wanted to try something different than the usual green tea or gatorade.
Watched tail end of the Michigan-USAFA game today. Dang, the Falcons had an opportunity to win that thing.

last bet for awhile, as i began the fb season like 2-7
hi roeth
September 8th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
The Houston coach just had one of the dumbest challenges I’ve ever seen. The LaTech receiver had a foot and knee down in the end zone and the ball never even remotely moved.
Andy Reid would have been proud at that waste of a timeout.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
Hell yeah they did. Michigan was so dirty. That was BS when they ripped that QB’s helmet off. There were technical difficulties so I didn’t see the punt or the 1st down. What happened on 1st down where they lost 5 yards? Play calling was awful in that last drive. Hell of a good job by Air Force though. Raised my spirits after OSU’s weak performance earlier.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:04 PM
Gotta be honest. No idea what the hell those are.

September 8th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
That’s pretty much how my first week went too. Much better start today (4-0), followed by one bad loss (Nevada blowing a big lead) and the USC failed cover. Sitting at 4-2 with 3 in play tonight. Hoping for a nice 6-3 day, will settle for a profit after last week.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
I’m 6-5 in my Pick ‘Em league so far. Last week I was 7-13. Picking CFB games is difficult when you gotta pick 20 of em a week.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
ATS or straight up?
September 8th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
ATS.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:13 PM
Oregon is doing their best to fuck up an easy cover (up 29 at the half). Two fumbles in their own red zone have given Fresno some easy points.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
Jiminy Christmas – now Ole Miss is trying to blow their cover by muffing a punt.

If i am the Yankees, i tell C.C. sabathia to lose 50-75 pounds in the offseason or his contract will be voided. Is it any surprise he is wearing down and getting shelled the past 3 septembers?
September 8th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
Ack! In case I don’t make it here tomorrow, remember me with fondness…lol.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:23 PM
Everyone here should be rooting for the Bills tomorrow. Beat the Jets!
September 8th, 2012 at 9:25 PM
Didn’t see that part. The game was primarily blacked out here in Colo Springs. We only got parts of it when the USC-Syracuse game was delayed. The bits I saw were interesting, but USAFA trying to run option to the short side didn’t make any kind of sense.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:25 PM
I wouldn’t change a thing.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:26 PM
Uh, my son is a Jets’ fan. Don’t ask me why.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:27 PM
Yogi Bear is so overrated. Everyone knows this but Wilbon. Keep eating that Captain Crunch you unclutch insignificunt.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Rick, im a sox fan so i am fine with him choking. Just suggesting what the yanks should do.
Also, i was genuinely surprised at Maryland’s offense today, Rick. Not surprised at them letting temple almost come back all the way
September 8th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
If Markakis is seriously hurt after being drilled by CC, they had better go head hunting after jeter or a-roid tomorrow.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:30 PM
Don’t ask me why.
Just as long as it doesn’t have something to do with that shirtless romp through the rain.
/Garmy’d
September 8th, 2012 at 9:30 PM
Fuck Maryland. They paid Stefon Diggs to go there.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:30 PM

September 8th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
Was it a retaliation hit or did his fat throw off his control?
September 8th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
nah, he’s into dames. And drumming.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
I thought I had been drinking absinthe and was hallucinating
Duh. How else would Edsall be able to land him?
September 8th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
I know Oregon is going to win this game, bu this 2nd half performance has been awful to watch
September 8th, 2012 at 9:36 PM
True, he is much better. I just hate jeter more. Plus lead off man for lead off man.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
did his fat throw off his control?
Equilibrium issues.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
I’m thinking it was his fat, but I missed it flipping between UGA/ Mizzou
September 8th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
Damn! Markakis on the bench, hand in what looks like a partial cast, getting condolences – not looking good.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
only been two weeks, but I’d say Alabama, LSU, whoever
September 8th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
If only you had traded for Choo…. You still can in the off season. Bundy please.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
soooo geeked for NFL tomorrow. already locked in a babysitter for the afternoon games. told wife i will wake up hang with B until noon. then, i plant myself on the couch with the CPU and red zone and food.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
soooo geeked for NFL tomorrow.
I get to watch like an hour of it before I have to come in for work. Then I will rely on you guys for the play by play. Something tells me you guys won’t disappoint.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:48 PM
Hard to argue that. Certainly no one from the B1G, ACC, or Big East.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:50 PM
soooo geeked for NFL tomorrow.
Only thing better … listening to a room full of 12 yr olds holding their fantasy auction down in the basement. If one of their parents walked through the door right now, they’d probably have me arrested. It sounds like a frat party with strippers down there. Hilarious.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:51 PM
Don’t sleep on FSU. I don’t think it will happen because MSU is MSU. But MSU could go undefeated.
/MSU loses 2 games
September 8th, 2012 at 9:54 PM
Lets see what happens when LSU plays agood team first
September 8th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
I doubt any SEC team goes undefeated.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Good point, but I think they will end up choking in a game or two this year.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:56 PM
Yes! My first year getting Sunday Ticket. I can’t wait. I may even watch the Browns’ game.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:56 PM
Lets see what happens when
LSUand bama play agood team firstFixed based on that big sucking sound coming from the b1g.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
So am I other than the fucking 8:30 start. Staying up for the game just sets me back on sleep and I end up trying to play catch up the entire week.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Don’t sleep on FSU.
True. Especially since they’ll only play 1 team with a winning record.
September 8th, 2012 at 9:58 PM
Meeeechigan sucks so much dick. They may win 8 games this year only because the B1G sucks ass.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:01 PM
Hope Mizzou holds on
September 8th, 2012 at 10:06 PM
Know what I find hypocritical as fuck? That Brady Hoke was praised for sitting Fitz Toussaint for 1 game after a DUI. Yet teams like Georgia and Clemson sat STARS as in future 1st or 2nd round picks for 2 games for similar or lesser charges.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:09 PM
Know what I find hypocritical as fuck?
Yea but look how many times they let Tyrann fail a drug test at LSU before they finally booted his ass.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Yet teams like Georgia and Clemson sat STARS as in future 1st or 2nd round picks for 2 games
The only reason Richt has done this recently is b/c it’s a trend and he was getting a lot of criticism for continuously recruiting knuckleheads.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Murray just got drilled.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
UGA tied it up
/can’t bear to watch anymore of the O’s implosion tonight
September 8th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
But that’s the SEC. I’m guessing he did much worse to warrant being kicked off the team. Or most likely, they are so deep that it’s not that big of a deal.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Holy crap, what an ending to the o’s-yankees game. Ump blew the call. Game should be tied. Oh well, fuck the yanks!
September 8th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Holy crap, what an ending to the o’s-yankees game. Ump blew the call. Game should be tied. Oh well, fuck the yanks!
September 8th, 2012 at 10:22 PM
tex was safe by a long shot. No clue how the ump missed that
September 8th, 2012 at 10:23 PM
It is about time the umps go the O’s way.
Fuck the yanks!
Not sure I could have survived it going to extra innings.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:24 PM
So, for those of us that didn’t see it, what happened?
September 8th, 2012 at 10:25 PM
Am I the only one that finds it really easy to hate uga? Dude just made a tackle on a play that got mizzou a first down and he’s in the receivers face like he just single-handedly stopped them on 4th down. stfu and go to your huddle you idiot.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Tex hits grounder..man out at second…throw to first..Tex dove into first base..had hand on base before ball was in Reynolds’ glove. Instead of the runner from 3rd scoring and tying the game 5-5, it was a game ending double play.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Was sitting in left field and tex sure looked safe From 300 ft away
September 8th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
I loathe the yankees but the umps just need to make correct calls
September 8th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
hee
September 8th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
I find UGA comical. Continually falling short and fucking up. Easier to hate other SEC teams. And my boy hillbilly Stafford played there.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
problem is, ruth was born in balmer, so when it’s head to head, his ghost goes with o’s
September 8th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
No way UGA should be a top ten team. Gimme the OBC having a better team
September 8th, 2012 at 10:29 PM

September 8th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
I was ready to push GA Southern into the top 10 but they go and lose to the Citadel.
Will be cheering hard when Southern plays uga. GATA!
September 8th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
I cant watch that UCLA-Husker game. Gus Johnson means no thanks
September 8th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
He is a con artist scumbag that leaves programs in shambles.
What a perfect one liner for a resume.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
ULM down 7 vs Arky..1:25 left..on the Arkansas 24
September 8th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Don’t slide headfirst into first base – ump can’t see your hand from that angle.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:35 PM
UCLA is looking good against Nebraska, another stench fest from the b1g.
Fixed as a reminder.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:35 PM
Markakis out until the playoffs, at least.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:36 PM
Meth,
Todd graham was the coach at Pitt for one season. He said it was a dream job. Arizona State wanted to interview him, Pitt wouldn’t allow it. Graham interviewed anyway, took the job, and informed the Pitt athletic director and the team via text message that he was leaving while already enroute to Tempe. Its such a dick move
September 8th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
TOUCHDOWN ULM! Suck it Arkansas!
September 8th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
Don’t slide headfirst into first base – ump can’t see your hand from that angle.
is it a myth that it’s slower than running through?
September 8th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
If Tex had run through, he wouldnt have beaten the throw. He got good distance on the dive
September 8th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe tied at 28. Looks like overtime
September 8th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
Markakis out until the playoffs, as if.
fixed
September 8th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Wish Monroe would have gone for 2. Tough to beat a better team in OT. But, Arkansas defense is decimated right now…
September 8th, 2012 at 10:40 PM
is it a myth that it’s slower than running through?
I don’t think so. Especially since it’s a force out, sliding slows your momentum considerably as you go through the bag as opposed to running through and then slowing down. It’s not like coming into home when a slide can help get around a tag. You never see any sprinters dive across the line in the 100
September 8th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Dear Red Sox,
I know you guys suck this year and it’s been frustrating as a fan. If you have any heart and pride, please show it and take 2 of 3 from the Yankees next week. Thanks.
Regards,
Everybody

True, but I mean more guys in the finals fighting for the win. Well, when sprints used to be competitive before Bolt.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
That surface would rip you up
Sure as hell would be entertaining to watch though. Fuck the times, bloodiest palms and legs wins.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:45 PM

What did you think of OSU today? I was pretty discouraged to be honest. I’m hoping they are holding back till the real games start. But Fickell is already driving me crazy. I love Urban though. Calling it like he sees it.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:45 PM
Flipped over my bike’s handlebars in highschool. Scraped up both palms, forearms, and knees. That was pretty terrible
September 8th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Well color me wrong. Thanks, roth
September 8th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Media is going to fawn over Robinson’s performance for Michigan…OMG, he had a lot of yards against a bad defense!
September 8th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Flipped over my bike’s handlebars in highschool.
I had a racing bmx bike so I didn’t have front bakes. Used to shove my foot between the front tire and fork. Face, meet asphalt. Asphalt, meet face.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:49 PM
Peters notes a growing number of players who will slide into first base, despite conventional wisdom that running through first is the faster way.
“Mathematically, you might think there’s an advantage, but leaving your feet is actually a detriment because you’re no longer pulsing (pumping your legs) and you start to decelerate,” he says. “When you’re running, your get your feet out in front of the center of gravity, so you’re getting maybe three or four steps of an advantage.”
Peters says the only advantage of any slide into first base is to avoid the first baseman’s tag when he has to come off the base to spear an errant throw.
so he’s saying at the beginning of the article that head first slides are faster than a feet first slide, but running through first base is faster than head first into first
September 8th, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Oh…Tyler Wilson didnt play the 2nd half for Arkansas…thats why they only scored 1 td in the second half
September 8th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
He played pretty well. But that D sucks and they lack skill players and elite coaching.
September 8th, 2012 at 10:55 PM
Is Mora that good, or was Neuheisel that bad?
September 8th, 2012 at 10:55 PM
Rick. Its called UCLA has a half-decent QB for the first time in a while
September 8th, 2012 at 10:57 PM
I hope ULM beats Arkansas..then Bammer comes to fayetteville next week. Oops
September 8th, 2012 at 11:00 PM
Its called UCLA has a half-decent QB for the first time in a while
Have to wonder if he doesn’t redhirt Hundley that Neuheisel might have bought himself another year

ULM WARHAWKS WIN!!!! 4th-and-1 at the 20, the ULM QB had nobody open so he ran for a TD. Amazing. HAHAHA, SEC DEEZ NUTS

I dont care if Arky’s main QB was out for the second half… Hey SEC, balls on chin. Regards, Sun Belt

This is my first year without it in awhile, cancelled yesterday. I keep seeing advertisement for it for $199 and they were charging me $299. When I called to cancel the most off they would give me was only $10 a month. Directv is starting to piss me off. Might be about time for a switch.

how many fans blame john L and how many the D? wilson being out 2nd half didn;t help, but ark should beat ulm with the backup qb. first upset of the year, or is that beavers?

Arkansas lost? LOL. John L. Smith is garbage. The Ark fans on TBL must be so much butthurt right now.

Lot of stuff to work on, but UCF is a damn good team. Killed them that Hyde went out. I thought there were coaching mistakes today (wrong personnel on the missed 4th and 1 and having a DE continually burnt when dropping into coverage). There were player mistakes too.
But, Braxton is filthy. Philly looked good. The seccondary are ball hawks.
Withers defense philosophy is to drop guys in coverage and get picks. That is working so far. Really, UCF had 250 yards with 10 minutes left. OSU had no one to run the ball to kill the clock, so UCF got to pad some stats…
They are still a year away. And there are still a lot of growing pains.

Is Urban actually letting his QB throw the ball or is disregarding Miller’s development as a passer like he did with Alex Smith and Tim Tebow?
Good coach but does nothing to get his QBs to be better at anything but running

Dunn. Didn’t like a lot of the Boren calls. Not enough pressure on the QB. Can’t run Braxton that much. Hate the LB’s dropping back so often. Wanna see more blitz. I am a little bit more confident that they could beat MSU now. I think that will be a close game. But the offensive game plan needs to progress and they need Hall back ASAP.
September 8th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Brax was 18-23 today. That guy is going to be absolutely sick.
Dunn will get more play, but he missed some blocks and passing assignments today.
The LB’s are not good. Sabino actually played well, but Shazier and Grant were no shows. The DL has not created the havoc all thought they would.
And, yes on Hall. That dude would have had a monster f’n year if it weren’t for that damn cut. Not sure he’s going to be back next week either.

Much improved. 3 horrible passes. The future is bright.
I blame Fickell. They were always dropping back in coverage. Poor performance but not all their fault. Need to be better. DL has been disappointing.

This has Withers stamp on it. They are playing his UNC type defense. I don’t know which one has more say, but I’ll go with both… DL has been great against run, but not good against pass. They need Bennett to help out inside some.

He didn’t play IIRC. At the end of the year I would love to see a front four of Simon Washington Hankins Spence. Wont happen, but that would be sweet. Break Duhnards legs.

Story of his career, esp. when that bad defense is ND.
