There is No Way to Choose the Best This is SportsCenter Ad
Yesterday ESPN dropped the John Clayton This is SportsCenter ad on the internet and everyone went crazy. Everything about the ad was pitch perfect, including the nod to the “John Clayton has a ponytail” rumor. It was perfect. TBL called it the best ESPN promo ever. That’s quite a claim when you consider the fact that ESPN has been pumping out these amusing ads since 1994 and some of them are legitimate classics. Picking the “best” comes down to personal preference. What anchor or athlete do you like the most? More importantly, what kind of humor really gets you? There’s something for everyone.
Lil Penny and Gheorghe Muresan
Ringers with Juwan Howard, Cherokee Parks, Pooh Richardson
Competitive with Evander Holyfield
Y2K featuring Charlie Steiner’s “Follow me to freedom” line.
Big Buddy Program
Manning family tour
Every show is live
Rich Eisen “cut me”
Charley Steiner gets traded to Melrose Place
Scott Van Pelt Division
As far as I’m concerned, SVP (followed by Steiner) is the best.
Scott Van Pelt’s performance enhancers. “Unhand me you rapscallion”
Contract negotiations with Scott Boras
Finally, “Bedwetter.”
And those are just a bunch I could think of or find out of the hundreds(?) that have been made. The only real, fair, scientific way to determine which ad is the best is to put them into a bracket and drag it out over the next few weeks and call it This is SportsCentertology… I’ve said too much.
Not that I need to invite you, but feel free to tell me in the comments which ads I was an idiot to forget to include.

I’d forgotten about this one, the creepy stare as he’s cleaning the pool at the end might earn this one the blue ribbon from me…Steiner was the best, impossible not to laugh watching a video of all the times he lost it on air
It was kind of a simple one but I always enjoyed Grant Hill playing the piano in the ESPN lobby and cheering up Dan Patrick

Is BBoB working here again? As if this site didnt load slow enough, stick 50 youtubes in a post to speed it up.

Y2K still makes me laugh. McGuire on a rampage, Randle chillin’ and Steiner with that tie on his forehead are great images.

So this is where all the good SNL writers went.

The Clayton ad is just on another level for me. Steiner Melrose is close.

My top four: 1. Clayton 2. Arnold Palmer making an Arnold Palmer 3. Kobyashi eating lunch 4. Ovechkin as the spy

Steiner wins all of them. The guy is impossible not to laugh at or with.

The Clayton ad is just on another level for me.
Just finally saw it this morning watching Sportcenter, because work wont let me watch them here (fuckers). That part where he screamed at his Mom bout killed me. Reminded me of Will Ferrel screaming, “MOM!!!! MEATLOAF!!”

Rondoman is about to have a politically initiated aneurysm in the Lance Thomas post.

The Steiner Melrose Place ad is great. I don’t know how I hadn’t seen it until now.

I am still a big fan of the Big Buddy program and Rich Eisen’s “cut me”.

Drew Brees and the float…David Ortiz caught wearing Yankees hat. Those are my 1 and 2, Clayton Ad not considered.

Where’s the one with the prep to pro anchor? “Jimmy Key, he’s what, 45? I could hit him.”
September 7th, 2012 at 6:33 PM
A better ad would be Steiner leading hookers to freedom from Berman and Tirico’s sex cave underneath the mothership.

Like I said yesterday, the Y2K ad remains the top dog, with SVP’s thesaurus and Clayton’s ponytail rounding out the top 3.

Theres no berman ones? Because hes a no talent assclown,as the supersuckers would say
September 7th, 2012 at 7:43 PM
the clayton thing is ok…the best part is his coat and tie and yelling at mom, but i think it’s not even top 3 among just the ones shown in the post
/still can’t find the gammons one with the blond stalker
//i called and his wife answered…she’s not very friendlah

There was one where Eisen was “demoted” and was doing cable access shows for the local high school. Kids were trying to get him to buy them beer, and his female co-anchor sneered at him “Do you even go to this school? You’re not supposed to be on this show if you don’t go to this school.” Sadly I can’t find it.

Here you go.
Two other favorites: Ozzie Guillen and another one with Eisen.

I’m not sure we’ve even mentioned the best Charley Steiner appearance yet.
“I mean I like boxing. But it doesn’t define who I am.” // mayhem ensues.
Here it is.

late to the party, but i always liked the one with Kim Kelly behind Adam Vinatieri at security and he has to remove all his super bowl rings, one by one while kelly waits.

In the top 5 is the soccer one where John Anderson pretends to get hurt by Abby Wambach. “OHHHH, MY ANKLE!!!! I WON’T WORK FOR WEEKS!!!!!” Lulz
