I am not trying to compare US to Canada. Your system seems great, and I wish we could adopt it seamlessly.

However, with the current setup we have…we need people to use the system properly and pay their share.

I noticed that when your shoulder hurt, you didn’t go to the emergency room. That is what people here would do. They would sit around for 4 hours (because everyone with real emergencies get treated first)…request x-rays, pills, and additional services. Then get the fuck out and pay $0.

I went to a walk-in clinic, waiting an hour during 9 to 5, saw a doctor.
Emergency would take to long in one sitting, for me the choice had to do with time, not cost.

However, the nurses and doctors that treat you are not allowed to know your insurance standing (litigation galore if they did). They treat everyone the same.
