A’s Brandon McCarthy Suffered a Fractured Skull, Needed Surgery to Relieve Pressure
Brandon McCarthy, the A’s pitcher who was hit in the head by a line drive yesterday is “alert, awake and resting comfortably” following surgery last night. Turns out it was as bad as it looked. From CSN Bay Area:
After the incident occurred in the fourth inning yesterday, the A’s pitcher was taken to Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, where a CT Scan revealed an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture. Later in the evening, he was transferred to a nearby hospital, where a neurosurgeon performed a second CT scan and clinical examination, and surgery was recommended to relieve pressure from McCarthy’s head.
Here’s hoping McCarthy has a speedy and successful recovery.

We got to “sit in” on ECT sessions as med students on our psych rotation. From what I remember, it’s not as dramatic as you might picture but takes its toll nonetheless. Hope it works for you. Probably not as painful as this upcoming season of Chiefs’ football is going to be.

And the ECT sessions haven’t been too dramatic for me – I don’t even remember my first session at all, 2nd session I just remember the two minutes before going under (and what felt like ice cold water being injected into my arm) and the last session I just remember waking up.

The offense should be better IF they can stay healthy. Moeaki is made of glass and I cringe every time Jamaal Charles gets hit. The offensive line was upgraded but didn’t have an impressive preseason. Cassel will benefit from the TE depth and better running game. He’ll never have great arm strength, his ability to read defenses and accuracy on mid range throws has to get better.
The defense is what worries me. Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, and Dontari Poe = high draft picks with low yield.

I think the Browns will look a bad 2-6 to start off, and then be a pleasant suprise in the 2nd half and end up 6-10 or 5-11. Unlike other disjoined Browns teams there is actual talent on the roster, it’s all very very young. The Taylor injury was pretty brutal but he can come back mid-year.

i was lucky, i kept my job in the tech sector for a tech reseller, my wife did lose her job as a part time librarian at the perfect school, a few months later she got lucky and got a full time librarian job at a decent school. based on the competitive landscape for education jobs, we could easily still be living in our shitty duplex apartment on one salary in NJ

I went to a pawn shop tonight – Naples FL – sucked. Big cities pawn shops are gold, but they always know what they have. You can still get good buys.
My S&W 9mm semi was originally issued to a PD. On the barrel is stamped “Gwinnett PD”. When I bought it, my buddy with me looks at the guy across the counter and says “Like I always say, if you’re gonna do a job, make sure it looks like the good guys did it.” I bought it immediately.
